If you have no funds to start a new "project".

It's shit. Sell it.
Kingcutter will buy the parts to sell them two weeks later for 50% of the price after he gets bored of them. And then I will step in. -

Has anyone ever wanted to build a beautiful bike but just sacked it off and got something off the peg because building bikes is slow, stressful, expensive and boring?
Yes.
-
• #14134
Same as a lot of things in life, really, the journey is better than the destination.
Once you've finished the build you get a momentary sense of achievement, then it's all downhill (first scratch, first p_nctr), best to sell it at once, and start a new project.
I have got round this by never finishing my road bike- there is always a new pair of wheels/chainset/something on the horizon.

For me, the joy of my Look is that the frame was used so has already been scratched, and the rear wheel managed to puncture while it was all being put together, so by the time it was done it didn't have the sheen of 'preciousness' that it otherwise would and I can ride it reasonably worry free.
Not that I do ride it, or that I don't worry about it... -

^ha!
I was like 'where is he going with this? he never bloody rides it?!'
which reminds me, I wanted to ask you if you identified with that bit about not having the perfect bike and you becoming it's bitch instead of the other way round in the book I lent you?
-
• #14137
:)
I remember reading that bit but I can't remember the details. I think I felt a mild sense of satisfaction that I didn't quite fit that mould, but it was close enough to identify.
I'm definitely not the bike's bitch! It's done, there's nothing on it I'd change, and when I ride it, I ride it hard. But a lot of the joy comes from doing so infrequently. If I rode it all the time my perspective would become massively skewed when it came to what a bike should be like.
Or something. Rambling. What was the question again? -
• #14138
^^^as a knock on effect, it's made my previously 'nice' road bike much less precious, so I'm getting a lot more use out of it, and a lot more fun. so while I may not be getting my money's worth from the Look, it's enabling me to get my moneys worth out of my old bike :)

My cat knocked my Cannondale over just after I got it, it fell on me as I was holding a spanner and ended up with two parallel scratches on the head tube (who scratches the front of the head tube?!)

I lived there for a while, and I'd recommend going straight from the airport to Pireus, then to the islands.
Andros, Naxos, Paros and Andiparos were the ones I spent most time on.
Don't go to Ios unless you like lager and fighting, Mykenos is the other main "party island", I didn't go there however.
Cheers. Just the sort of tips I need to get me started on planning it properly.
Do you know if Mykenos is a party island a la a UK town centre on a Friday night, or is it a bit more mixed?
-
• #14141
It's a gay and lesbian party island- so probably extremely good fun, in a sohoesque way.

Is it simple to get say a SIM with data access for my smartypants phone in France?
I'm not taking the work phone so actually want to save a bit of money on data costs. -
• #14144
You can get PAYG micro-Sim with 3GB on Orange in Poland, so I presume you can buy a similar in France. You just have to ask in French.

Coupled with vasectomy.
And a lot on here resembles afterbirth.

About €47 for a SIM + 2GB if I'm reading the orange.fr site right

That's their web offer, maybe more in a shop. -

^^ Don't get indignant. You took it the wrong way. For the sake of clarity I was belittling the post build emptiness not PND.

Keiser Chiefs?
Pretty sure there's a 'post-build blues' thread or similar. There is the tremendous satisfaction of having finished it, tempered with a feeling of disappointment that the process is over. Then you ride the bugger though and all is well again.
