Has anyone tried one of these?

I reckon, get your hands on them before they disappear forever....discontinued in 2002 due to the scarcity of the gold foil.
James Suckling said these were one of his favourite smokes right now!

I haven't been online for a while since I had to go to the States on short notice as my mom passed away. We had a wake for her and I did smoke one of my Boli Gold Medals.
They are fantastic if you like the Bolivar flavour. There are a lot of great cigars in the Bolivar line so that makes picking a best one pretty hard, but these would definitely be in the running.
The original production was discontinued in 2002. IIIRC, they did re-release them as a special deal for the German market for a year or two around 2005-2007. My dates might be a little fuzzy. I'm pretty certain they are back in regular production now and have been for a couple years as they are not difficult to find. Almost every online vendor I've used and trust has them in stock and when I was in Madrid in May, the shop I went to had a few boxes.
I do recommend them, particularly with a bit of age.

Anyone bought from Foxs before?Buy from c.gars, and in the message/ notes bit just ask them to price match and put a link.
You'll get the same price, and the better service of c.gars.Anyone on www.ukcigarforums.com?

Parryman, I've never ordered from Fox but a while back forms and I went there for a Padron event. It's a nice shop and definitely legitimate, so I wouldn't expect any issues with ordering.

Fox is one of the best stores there is, online service is still playing catch up to c.gars though I feel, and Mitch is great.

Will get some from fox then!
Not getting a lot, just a few for the summer.
Any plans for another herf? And Dale, sorry to hear that dude.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I realise it was a bit of an odd comment but wanted to put the Gold Medal in context. I smoked a few of my cigars that I never found an occasion to light up, some of which had been sitting in a humidor for the past decade.
A couple were rubbish, some were great and the GM was one of the standouts.
I'm defnitely up for a July herf. I think I'm gone for the weekend of the 10th and 11th and have plans on the 30th, but anything else works for me.

Anyone on www.ukcigarforums.com?
I joined them a while back, I think they had just started up at the time. I haven't been on for ages because at the time it didn't seem very active. I'll have to have a look again.

I can only dream of having 10year old stock in ny humidor. Lucky if they last 6 months!
I'm going to be ordering the following brands for sampling:
Cuaba, fonseca, punch, macundo and nub.
Trying to expand my repertoire. -
• #1188
Any experience of these brands?
Ive been eyeing up nub for a while, 3.75"x58rg sounds massive! -

What are you're normal smokes? -

Cuaba Generosos, fonseca cosacos, punch petit corona, macundo rothschild.
All similar sizes.
Don't have a usual yet, I like Oliva Serie G and Sancho Panza.
Had a Ramon Allones something (petit corona possibly) that was amazing recently. -

scrap the fonseca if your still fairly new, they are okay but not cost effective.
try a partagas serie d no 4
Amazing smokea monte 4 or 5 is a nice small smoke, or a Trinidad reyes
as far as Punch goes, I really enjoy the punch punch and punch petit punch. If you haven't already though, get a PSD4, and make sure you set a side time to enjoy it fully

I don't know about cost effective, but Fonsecas are extremely mild and I believe only two of the line are completely hand made. I've had quite a few of the KDT Cadete. With some age and just the right environment to smoke it can be very nice, but it is one of those that require the stars to align and be in a very specific mood to enjoy. I personally haven't bought any Fonsecas in over 5 years because of that.
Watkinz gave a good list there. You already said you like the Ramon Allones Small Club Corona, which is a fantastic cigar. For smaller mareva/petit corona sizes you can't go wrong with the Reyes as he said. I'd also stump for the Partagas Short, San Cristobal Principe, and the Bolivar Corona Junior or Boli Petit Corona (but the CJ might have the edge here). If you can get your hands on Sancho Panza Bachilleres or HdM du Deputes, buy every single one you find.
I've been smoking the hell out of ERdM Demi Tasse lately. I have a box from 07 and in the past few weeks I've gone through half of them. They are a convenient size and the flavours have been incredible. Highly recommend these and they can be picked up cheaply.
Tonight I have a LGC Medaill d'Or No. 2 lined up; it's one of my favourite summertime smokes when I can sit and relax with it.

Had a Partagas Serie du Connosieur (No.5) last night, amazing smoke.
slightly thinner ring guage than im used to (i tend to stick to 42, this was a 38)
very enjoyable evening stroll to meet my missus off the train. -

Is that one of the ones I got for you? If so it's actually a Connasieur No.2 (I think I initially mis-advertised them on here as No.5s), and they are pretty much my favourite cigar of the moment - In truth I've only smoked one, but it was probably one of the top 3 cigars I've ever smoked. The ones I have left still appear on the dry side, having been in my humidor (as close to the beads as possible) for the last 6 months or so - The cigars seems to have a particularly fragile wrapper... Absolutely great smoke smoke though!
As far as I'm aware Partagas have only released a No.1, No.2, and No.3 in the series.
-
• #1199
Yeah, the ones you got.
Mine are a tad fragile too, nothing too bad though.
Guess its a trait of that batch. -
• #1200
Some cigars are notorious for fragile wrappers and others can have them depending on the year or even month of production. However, I'll take a papyrus delicate wrapper over some of the beefy, fireproof ones they've used for so many of the Limited Editions.
Good call on those Serie du Connoisseurs. They are a gem in the Partagás line.
I'm in for some BQ. Let me know what the deal is.
