  • Might be a stupid question - what brake does one use under the bb?

Depends on how the frame has been built, the modern way is to put canti bosses in the right place to use one of these

but if you want a conventional brake with a very narrow aspect to clear the chainrings, the Simkins Egg brake looks like a good choice

    or maybe a eebrake

Old school TT brakes like Modolo Kronos, Campag Delta, DuraAce AX and Dia Compe AGC300 are also narrow

  • but if you want a conventional brake with a very narrow aspect to clear the chainrings and a very light wallet

    Ftfy

  • Egg Brakes are $435 per pair, pretty cheap next to AX Lightness, EEbrake, Ciamillo Gravitas, M5, THM Fibula etc. :-)

  • I was going to give you a link to the brakes I've seen on the Giant Trinity, but it turns out they're in house items. They're very similar to the first pic mdcc posted but mount on to then conventional road brake mount.

  • ok thanks chaps. It's a 93 frame so could (just) have been made for Deltas - thought that was a possibility. It's not cool when a set of Delta brakes is the cheapest option!

  • re: Giant Trinity: It's a version of the Tektro R925 modified for centre pull isn't it? A hybrid of these two

You should offer up a DiaCompe BRS200 to the space, it might clear the chainring.

  • That's it. Like an 'u-brake' but with the centre bolt.

  • re: Giant Trinity: It's a version of the Tektro R925 modified for centre pull isn't it?

I'm still using that kind of brake from the 80s non-ironically.

  • ^Irony, or even sincerity for that matter, doesn't apply to situations where theres only one option.

  • Finally got myself a steel track frame. Ignore the bars, seat etc, just threw them on to make it rideable for now.
    words.

    Fancy selling it?

  • what happend to your bike sumo you sell it?

  • the Pro Winner track bike? Yeah. I want it back though. I'm nearly done with my aluminium track bike, just a few more parts, and if I don't have another project I'll start changing parts on the BMC when I shouldn't.

  • don't know why you sold that! was nice and you got a good deal... aluminium track bike = visp?

  • I sold it to fund the purchase of the BMC, there was no other way I could have afforded it (along with student loan). But now I miss it.
I was going to get a visp again, but there was a Dolan Precursa frame without decals on ebay for £100 so I got that instead.

  • fair one the bmc is nice... good ride?

100 for the dolan sound a better deal than the visp. photos so far?

  • good ride is an understatement. Most fun bike I've ever ridden and best fitting bike I've ever owned.
No photos so far, all my possessions are currently in a big pile until I move house in a couple of weeks. Just need a headset, tyres, seatpost and saddle and it's done.

  • ^the frame is ace!
    want, need, etc...

  • Done 5.8 kg

  • Without water I take ;) Nice man!

  • Well my langster has bitten the dust. Too much in appropriate use I think.
It was being used like this

and this happened. A bit tricky to tell what is ging on as it was in a cupboard and I could get it out to photo propperly. Basically the drive side chain stay has snapped near the drop out.

Is it possible to get this weld back together? I know with steel it's easy but with aluminium? Also what are the chances it's beginning to fail elsewhere?

If it's not looking great I'll get a new frame. I'm thinking a pompetamine or a karate monkey. The karate monkey look really nice but you can't run a rear disc and a rear rack which is annoying. Any opinions on these frames?

I may keep the langster, fix and use it as a beater as it was my first bike - sentimental like.

  • That'll buff out^

  • Seriously though. Just get the karate monkey and a disc specific rack. There's loads of them out there.

You could weld that. But it would take ans experianced alu welder, as the metal is pretty thin. Would be easy to feck up the drop-out alignment too. Probably not worth it.

  • I have a spare disc specific rack, brand new, never used, for that type of child seat. PM if you want it.
