  • I'm not sure what everyone's getting so worked up about. I don't know that much about bianchi's, but to me that looks like a cheap old one, so I don't really see much wrong with turning it into a ss/fg beater.

I wanted it ss as it's just going to be a hack bike for winter. Gears would have just been hassle and as Hugo said it's only a cheaper Bianchi. It's a sprint 28c.

  • Which would take me to 7mm from top of stem to steerer, still probably too much...

reckon you'd get away with that, steel steerers are pretty damn solid. I used to have about 4 mm on my street bike, which was rigid forks steel steerer dropping some pretty big stuff... this is only a tarck bike .

    *awaits contradiction/condemnation

  • There are stems out there, that would get me where I needed, but they are so fugly, that it negates bothering, also the rake on the wound up looks kind of nuts!

  • also the rake on the wound up looks the nuts!

    Make it work.

Mercier project: 99% done, just looking for the right set of bars....

Picked this thing up dirt cheap for the little one and I to cruise for coffee! It has an amazing 1930's leather embroidered saddle made in oz!

Planning on putting the rear brake back on?

  • Finally finished the Raleigh Team Banana Project.....
Had a slight change to original Plan
Now with Bullhorns and SPD Pedals.

  • did a pic after a few laps in the velodrome ... looking to build up a 'normal geometry' track bike, but this one rides quite well anyhow
    saddle still needs some adjustment

  • Picked up a nice pair of these this week.

    Thanks Wayne.

Redstripe water bootle saves the day.

    Things that are good on winter bikes include;

Bar tape (cold & slippery otherwise).
    Good brakes.
    Mudguard(s).

It's certainly a worse winter hack bike than when you found it.

nah, it has a back tyre now.

Berlin, nice looks like you had the track to yourself!

Bar tape yeh I agree. The original was shot so regardless of wheter I was running bar tape or not that had to come off.

Back brake. Yeh again would be better, however I just wanted to see what it looked like without. In my opinion a lot better! I'll see how I get on with it.

Guards - never run them, never have and never will. Even if they would keep me dryer lol

    Darwinism.

  • ...is to be encouraged.

  • still... running into the back of a car will tighten up those clearances!

  • Why would you run a single brake with a freewheel? You're placing your safety and that of others in the hands of a single cable.

That cable can snap, fray, pop loose of the caliper... The caliper itself could break, or the lever...

There's a reason you have two brakes. In fact there are three. You have a backup should one fail, you have stronger braking and you have more options for braking.

To take a perfectly functioning brake off the bike because it looks better is bizarre and reckless.

  • Reason four- you'll wear that front rim down alot quicker with only one brake.

But in the eyes of the fuckwits that do this, it "looks cool" and given the sheer numbers of them on the roads, I'd say the battle has already been lost.

  • why even bother with a front brake?

    brakless 3wheel 4 da winn!!!!

  • Haha what an absolute forum thrashing! Good job it isn't finished really! I haven't even ridden it yet mainly because it isn't finished...

  • Back brake on winter riding makes a hell of a difference if you're going for rides and not just commuting

Just commuting. Got my proper bike for real rides.

    It isn't really finished? So your steps to tarting up a bike are;

    1. Remove rear brake
    2. Post picture online
    3. Put rear brake on

If so, fine. Convoluted method, but at least that rear brake is going back on.
