  • Picked this up a few days ago. So spend most of yesterday changing a few bits.

Just a few other bits I need to do then its sorted.

is this the definition of puppy killing?

  • no.
nothing's been puppy killed, the bike is easily restorable to its original condition.

stop making a fuss about nothing

  • improperly single speeded
    front brake only
    seatpost backwards
    no griptape
    moody photo

  • Heavy old, medium quality geared bikes when made fixed wheel can be made into useful trainers and commuters.
Generally a puppy killing involves a rare, high quality bike which has been hipstered up to the nines by a clueless fashion victim.

  • Yes, but remember shifting works just fine without ramps or pins of any kind, especially with friction shifting. The chain riding on top of the chainring thing happens when you don't push the chain far enough. If you haven't managed to shift the chain off the outside of the big ring yet, you haven't tried hard enough! Slacken the outer limit right off and see what happens, as an experiment. If you can't get the chain to fall off, there is a problem.

Possibly the derailer needs rotating anti-clockwise (looking from above). This makes downshifting worse but upshifting easier.

i like your detail on the rotation of the derailleur. for the record, i did say most of this in my first post and he said it was set properly.

    here you go

  • is this the definition of puppy killing?

Look at the dropouts (among myriad other clues) - it was a mangy mongrel which has been put out of its misery.

  • Hmmmm if this is a rare frame then I guess converting to ss is wrong. However I was under the impression it was an old low end frame.

As for ss. Yeh it isn't correct, as I didn't have everything at home yesterday. I won't be putting gears on as for a commuter there just not needed.

Took a photo as it's a project so good to see stages. Also doing a photography project and this was my subject yesterday.

  • my current project removed my drops and put the streight bars on but chopped about 1.5 inch off either side because they were way too big for my liking.

  • Berlin, nice looks like you had the track to yourself!

yes it's awesome ... got there 8 in the morning and the lights weren't even on ^^

  • new crank.

  • any changes to your track bike lately Eingang?

  • no, i'm bit lazy with that, because we just go to the indoor v-drome in the cold winter (it's 80km away)

  • when does winter end in germany? our summer almost over, if the last couple of years are anything to go by.

  • cross threaded bottom bracket. fucking annoyed!

  • Some progress. Should be rolling on monday, that is if i get the brakes to work properly. Such a pain in the butt to adjust..

  • phwoar....

  • when does winter end in germany? our summer almost over, if the last couple of years are anything to go by.

the winter started last year in november and ends in late february this year. really short, but with a lot of snow and coldness

  • That is lovely pin-up.

  • Here are some pictures of my recently finished project. It had been on roller duty over winter and was due some new parts.
I'm really pleased with it, it's quite possibly the smoothest ride I've managed to achieve from a build. The only annoyance is a rattle from the dummy lever.

  • crank porn... how do you find the atac for fixed? got a pair at home and some new shoes but not got round to trying them yet, as I quite like my spd-sl...

The atacs work perfectly. I've never had any accidental unclips and they're easy to get into.
But I have no experience with any other clipless pedals fixed, so I can't say if they're the best for the job.

  • wow, love it, very similar set up to me! well: steel frame, drop brakes (1 dummy) thomson, selle italia flite and atac, which I find great for fixed due to its robustness and float.

  • well want your rims and crank tho!

  • what is it?

  • Why would you run a single brake with a freewheel? You're placing your safety and that of others in the hands of a single cable.

That cable can snap, fray, pop loose of the caliper... The caliper itself could break, or the lever...

There's a reason you have two brakes. In fact there are three. You have a backup should one fail, you have stronger braking and you have more options for braking.

To take a perfectly functioning brake off the bike because it looks better is bizarre and reckless.

Learned that the other day at old street roundabout, I did have a working back brake though. Don't know if anyone noticed me. My front brake pad just loosened up and became completely ineffective. I pulled over and used my trusty cheapo multitool to reattach the brake pad.
