  • We're putting on some polo as part of the Cliff Hanger event (a great big climbing and outdoor pursuits festival). www.cliff-hanger.co.uk
This will run on the 2nd and 3rd of July (the weekend after the EHBPCs in Barcelona).

    **Courts: **
Two courts (approx 30m x 18m) with a really good surface.

    **Format: **
Depends on number of teams, but we definitely have two courts over two days. What we will definitely aim for is giving everyone as many games as possible, so either a full round robin or failing that as many Swiss rounds as we can fit in, followed by some sort of elimination to determine final placings.

    **Rules: **
We'll adopt the National Series rule set.

    **Accommodation: **
There's only a small number of us playing polo in Sheffield, so whilst we'll do our best to house people, there's a fair chance we'll not be able to accommodate everyone. If you've got any friends in Sheffield, start tapping them up now!
There is camping in conjunction with the event, with secure bike storage on-site.

    Entry Fees and Camping:
Option 1: Register as an exhibitor
The organisers have agreed that we can get players registered as exhibitors. In order to do this, we (Sheffield Polo) will charge an entry fee of £18 per team (£6 per player). This will cover entry to Cliffhanger for the 2 days of polo, but this won't include any camping. We are taking names of anyone who wants a place to crash, if you're interested, please let us know.
Option 2: Camping and Cliffhanger entry deals.
The camping is approx. 1 mile away, more details are here:
    http://cliffhanger2011basecamp.eventbrite.com/?ref=ebtn
We can provide a discount code for anyone who registers as an exhibitor (as above).
Registering as an exhibitor will take care of your entry to the event, and will also mean you can take advantage of discounted camping. (NB: anyone using the discount code who hasn't registered with us won't be able to get into the event.)
With this in mind, it would seem that the most practical deals would be:
*Register as an exhibitor (£6) and get 2 nights camping (Friday AND Saturday) for £17.05 per person inc. booking fee (total £23.05)
*Register as an exhibitor (£6) and get 1 night camping (Saturday) for £8.85 per person inc. booking fee (total £14.85)

  • Sounds good!.. Put ASBO down provisionally, i'll need to check with the guys...

  • In France for a bike race - bugger!

  • Polo Camping Weekend...! Hell Yeah...!!!

  • Awesome!

  • As far as distance and information available already, this is looking easier to get to than Edinburgh. Cheaper and easier to get to and if camping is available then cheaper to stay there too.

  • Up for this. Sister's sprog is due around the same time so hopefully I can play and meet my new niece/nephew. Might not have a team with me though so if anyone needs a third...

  • may be able to make this, is it a NS tourney?

  • Not currently. We're aware that Edinburgh are planning to hold a round of the series during July.

We'd rather it didn't fall so close, but the Cliff Hanger event is fixed to those dates, so that's what we've got.

  • If it meets the criteria, I see no reason for it not to be a national series event.

  • except that most of the teams that go to the euros probably can't make it up 1 week straight after.

  • That's ok, the more events the better, it'll help sort out the mid-table for the NS, etc?!

Oh no wait, hang on, with enough events we'd all be 1st place, hmm.

  • Please dont make this an NS event. I can't get the time of work :(

  • +1

  • Hacked Off Bristol are in on this one :-)

  • Does it matter though? I thought only the 4 best results count?

    #notthaticarejustcurious

  • No, it doesn't matter. The more the merrier. Only top results are counted at the end of the season. Teams don't need (and no one expects them) to go to every NS event.

  • make it NS!
Not sure if I can make it though, meant to move from Manchester on the 1st of July, but mihght see what i can do

  • If a decent number of teams plan to attend then I don't see why it can't count. You can pick and choose which NS events to attend.

We would work probably look at discounting the points for a tournament with a tiny number of teams though. Finishing 5th in a 5 team tournament is less of an effort than coming 5th in a 32 team tournament for example.

  • Anyone needing a sub PM me

  • Is that a sniff of unexpected NS points?...Daft Punks casting a beady eye over proceedings

  • Good meeting with the council and Cliff Hanger today. Bike polo tourney in Sheffield is definatley going to go ahead first weekend of July. Will have a camping field with bar/music and secure bike parking as part of the cliff hanger festival of outdoor sports. All looking very good. Firmer details to follow soon.

  • woop...!

  • Sounds good. If someone can let me know ASAP what the court situation is, I can look into making this NS certified (ha). That is, assuming you want it to be an NS event. I do. Although I don't know if my team can make it. If not, I'll still be happy to come up and help/deal with format.

  • Rollapaluza will be there....
