I loved my B17, but then it was so old and saggy it was like riding a hammock.

its that why there is that tensioning bolt?
-
• #42854
yes, but I didnt have a tool, and the bike it was on got nicked before i got round to borrowing one..
-
• #42855
why you and not Ed, its his bike, innit??
Even if Ed got a pound every time his BMW is posted he'd still have been better off buying a Pompino
-
• #42856
If Ed got a pound for every time his BMW was posted he could buy another Pompino and compare the difference

Think this is going to take more money than I thought to get it comfortably rideable.
Need a new stem to start, the current one is 140mm and makes me resemble Boardman

macready just give up and give it to me, i'm still struggling to find a frame

Nice frame, shame about the welds, although maybe its just the photo, usually shit like that really doesnt bother me too much

Aye, that's what makes me think I'll use it. It is nice and light(by my standards), especially for a pretty big frame.

No you're right, they are shit. Built in Taiwan by machines like

Sitting on a Brooks- it's like sitting on an un-planed 2'X4'.
The correct position for the B17 being in the bin?
So true. Rep for you

My peugeot that is used and abused every day, just need a silver chainring and I think I will be happy for a while.
-
• #42863
these are on their way: open pros on lf miches, white kashimax aero, white fizik tape, maxxis re fuse 23mm.
Bar is with quite small 15cm drop, will see if that is enough.

ridden a kashimax before?

Hey Liam, nice conversion there. Looks nicer in the flesh. Better than my pink frame and yellow wheels combo

Haven't. Got no chance to try rly, but I dont think it will be that hard to sell if it wont fit. I gess it should fit me well as I generally like saddles that have a slope on the rear.
-
• #42867
the slope isn't the problem, they're very narrow and very solid.

Ask SuperTed, he'll do it for cheap.
Where is Teds welding grotto?

Sounds good. Wide and soft saddles are not comfortable.

Cheers, looking forward to hitting maindy on it soon...... :D

Get some extra padding. Maindy certainly ain't the smoothest of tracks out there

Ditto here. Decided to strip it as well...now I wince every time I cycle through anything vaguely resembling a pothole.

I would not put 2 coats of neetsfoot oil in 2 weeks. be careful as you don't want to over saturate it. It will get too soft and turn into a hammock and start sagging. Id stick to one coat proofide. Brooks are supposed to feel stiff to teh touch but after 500 miles of riding they will contour to your bones and not rub you the wrong way. I got a few brooks. old b17 narrow, swift ti, b66. and the swift broke in nicely.
also sumo you might want to tilt your nose up a little so you dont slide forward. not too much so you dont hurt the boys. I find the B17 standard too wide.
the way I do it is proofide a new saddle once underneath and on top and let dry for 24 hours. buff the top but not the underneath. 6 month later one thin coat. thats it.
I have a few concor saddles on my other bikes and they are way more painful then the brooks.
I've got a b17 champion special, I though i'd try it for a week and if i didn't get on with it i'd do a coat of Neatsfoot oil and try again, after that week i didn't even think about the saddle when i was on the bike.
took a bit of tweaking to the get the position right though
