I find my San Marco Rolls is the most comfortable saddle I've ever used, but saddle is a very personal choice.
Would suit your build, as its a 70s thing I guess.
There were a couple of nice ones going cheap in classifieds, they mostly come in this ^ finish, smooth black leather or white.

Yeah, profile wise, a San Marco Rolls is similar (one of my faves). Maybe try to pick up one 2nd hand which is a bit more worn-in?

Have you tried a Turbo, one of the best I've tried.

Selle Anatomica is supposedly delightful on the hole.

arione to be precise.

Hate Fizik saddles, rode one on a mates bike for a while and did not like it one bit, obviously very well suited to a lot of other people though.

you must have a wierd arse because theres more positions to ride on than in the 'joy of sex',
other good ones imo are the SDG bel air, every manufacturer out copied that design. -

- 1 for the bel air, great saddle. not exactly period correct though.
I also don't get on with arione...
am i wierd?

it's not as straight forward as you're making it sound.
The arse dimple saddle would no doubt be really good for short distances, but something that wide and soft is going to be REALLY uncomfortable after an hour or two in the saddle. To be honest, sit bone recesses and a raised centre is a horrible combination and looks like a one-way ticket to no babies.
Unfortunately saddles are a really personal thing, you can't just ask people what they recommend because what works for someone else, may not work for you. It's almost a bit like asking "what size of shoe is best" ... I've tried so many saddles (25+ probably) and only found a two that I like - Toupe and Arione.
Sit bone width is the most important thing in saddle sizing, there's no point buying a narrow saddle if you've got childbearing hips as you'll end up grinding away your manhood.
If you want to be in with a better chance of getting things right, then go to a bike shop and get your sit bones measured (specialized dealers will have a gel thing you sit on to measure the pressure points).. but even then, width of your sit bones depends on what posittion you're riding in - the more upright you are the wider they are, and equally they narrow when you're more tucked in.
Good luck. The good news is that not everyone finds it hard to find a saddle that works, some people are lucky :)

Do all that stuff^ then buy an Arione.

exactly. In Arione we trust. My future children are safe in your hands

Charge Spoon. It's the only saddle you ever need!

yeah - they're horrible. I thought for about a week that one might be ok.. but after two I was almost in tears everytime I rode for more than half an hour.
Still fine if you're just pootling around or riding for 10 mins etc

I do not deal in pootles.
So I've checked the exact question hasn't been asked before, and can find no sign, so...
On the lookout for a saddle for a new build, and previously I've always struggled with saddle fit, the physical pain of riding a bike with a saddle that doesn't fit is what usually ends my rides.
Currently ride on this...
wtb speed V (mtb)
and its aweful, and
Both I cannot stand, though I've always struggled to find something that fits.
Recently I picked up a beater project which has THE MOST COMFORTABLE SADDLE IN THE WORLD (for me) but the 'plastic' rails are cracked and TBH shouldn't really use it at all, but its so damn comfy. Looks like this...
*
Notice... arse dimples, short(ish), broad well padded nose, thigh ramps (right term?), slight concave shape, also from above it also looks a bit like a cartoon penis.
Or are there any other fairly 'period' looking (or actually old) saddles that you could recommend for a 70's racer, that I intend to ride more long distance rather than speed/lightweight.
Thank-you people of LFGSS!
