I guess this is my first "real" build - I've only owned a cheap 'n nasty beater prior to this. I've been collecting various bits and pieces for this for a year now, so getting the frame back from Armourtex (RAL6003 Matt, £69.25) was the catalyst for a weekend's fun putting it all together.

I usually would say no to the tyres, but on that it works. Sort of like some old school beach cruser/town bike vibe.
For the shifting on an upright bike like that, maybe try barend shifters? Also +1 to the idea of putting a light inside an old light. If you go back a few pages someone did that. Price-wise jumbles are better than ebay for vintage lights. Maybe you should try a dynamo hub and light combo?

I don't about the saddle (any sugestions?)
A nice period San Marco Concor would look lovely on that and be about right for 1980 (I think they were released late 70's?). Good find - always nice to see a bike with provenance.

I have one of the earlier, original Concor's for sale, haven't started a thread for it yet. Not entirely sure of its exact year, but certainly different to the more recent ones. It's in very good condition, get in touch noca if you're interested.

I paid over the odds for mine just because it was in exceptional condition. It was still cheaper (and so much nicer)than the reissued ones though. I did 70miles in the sunshine on it today. Happy days..

clipless DJ - that's new
Not if you're using it for 4x, and some people do use dj frames for 4x.

Just got the last details on my project completed this week.
Carrera Adone titanium frame - ca 2000-2001 which I acquired last year with a very different setup. Everything on it is now new or new to me with the exception of the headset.
preemptive notes: yes, I have water bottle holders - just have not put them on yet, and yes the seat post is a couple cms too high in the photo
everything else I am pretty happy with :)

Sometimes I run it SS for a bit of simple playing, sometimes a 9speed Road block, Dura-Ace Rear Mech hooked upto a XTR Shifter and have some geared fun too!
Jumping clipped in is, well, 'interesting'....

PAGING Ed Scoble; Glad you liked the Bar-Tape. Perhaps you should send the distributor an email, you never know, they might send you a pack!

I can't ride clips on dirt, hate it.
My feet swivel alot on the pedals when doing whips and clipped in feels... well... awful, and terrifying.

Nope, basically I got given a free set of drops whilst in the process of my build, so now I have the choice between flats and drops, although I'm thinking of getting cross bar levers for the drops and going straight to them.

I know what you mean, I run my pedals relatively tight, and will switch to flats once I've found a nice enough pair...

I've been running the cully versions of these for nearly 10 years on one bike, changed the bearings once. Great pedals.

Also use primo tenderisors which I like, but they are hefty.
