Bear in mind that there's two shape - the noodle and the randonneur.
noodle over randonneur (though Ihave only tried noodle), its the backwards curve in the top section, mimics mtb swept back risers, makes it easier on wrists I think.
Got to get some cranks, bb, seatpost, saddle, tyres and brakes before I should really be buying bars, but there you go! -

So the top of the steerer is just over the height of the top bolt on the stem. The bike shop said it would be okay, but I might take it there tomorrow just to check.
Failing that what are my options, short of getting a new fork...as I really like this one -

threaded it (if it's not threaded that is) and run a quill stem.
-
• #41832
Can you thread a carbon steerer? :S
-
• #41833
try a real shim.
-
• #41834
Cut a bit off the head tube.
-
• #41835
hammer the stem down as hard as possible.

This?
i really liked them when i rode a bike with them, was a nice ottadini
that got donated to action 21, all i had to do with pump up the tires, felt like i was using bullhorns when i held the top of the drops, wasn't even touching the hoods

as far as i know you actually need steerer showing above the stem, with a spacer on it if the steerer is carbon so that the clamping pressure around the steerer from the stem is even. /rambling

• #41839
I heard you should use a spacer on top of the stem too, but I don't think you're going to die if you don't use one.
-

^^ actually, yeah, I think Mick's right about that when it's a carbon steerer. As it is, it definitely looks like a bad idea.
-
• #41841
Get a bit of putty in there and HTFU
-
• #41842
I still say try a real shim.

My current project is to recover from that photo of Tenderloin's loins

I might just sell the effing thing! It's getting me fucking pissed off, and costing me too much.ggrrr
TheorySwine, that was the clean version, there was banana hammock action going off as well!

• #41845
L shaped sleeve/shim, superglue or epoxy and lots of prayers
-
• #41846
try a real shim

this is the best technique.

I'm just annoyed that the shop didn't just tell me there was no way this was safe, I showed them the stem, with the steerer and they said it would be fine, they then sold me the expanding bung for the steerer. grrrrr
