Excuse my ignorance but if you glue a ball bearing into your binder bolt to deter sticky fingers. How do *you *get it off?

solvent
They might be if they didn't have to keep replacing these saddles...

My Brooks saddle and seatpost were nicked from Old Street on a weekday afternoon a few months ago.
That was despite the saddle being covered with the unmarked plastic rain shield, and secured to the frame by a length of bike chain covered by inner tube.
Whoever nicked it just took apart the bike chain lock. I'd guess they used a chain tool since it was done neatly.
So gluing in a ball-bearing or soldering over the socket seems a much better idea.

Cheap shot, I was thinking it though.

My GF replaced her saddle yesterday with a considerably cheaper Charge Ladle saddle. She is pissed off still that people do this. I only posted on the off chance of someone may have been offered one for sale around that area.
She will be locking her seat down from now on!

I'm paranoid about getting my bike/saddle whatever stolen.
Surely you'd need to glue ball bearings in the seatpost clamp and the clamp holding the saddle on? Can they be 'chipped' out with a very small file or is using solvent the only way? Doesn't it damage the paintwork?
Perhaps its best just to have a really crappy bike?

My gf's brooks was also pinched a few months back - was held on with a bit of old chain covered in innertube. Must have been removed with a chain tool so I think thieves are wise to this trick. I always thread a cable lock through mine but I can see that getting snipped fairly easily and the saddle pinched. I think they only sure way is quick release and take the saddle with you but that's a lot of hassle.

Hold on... she had a QR seatbolt and left the bike outside?
I have a OR seatbolt on my moulton and the seat post is like 2 feet long and I take that thing everywhere. Yes it can get annoying but I always have my seat to ride home with. I always take it off even if I pop into a shop for one sec. I am paranoid though ( and live in Tottenham). -

I had this happen to me in Shoreditch a few hours ago! Worst thing is I even saw the guy standing near my bike, looking dodgy then hurry off. When he moved away and I saw my bike was still there I thought nothing more until I actual went to unlock it and realised my saddle had gone. Bugger! If it's the same Shoreditch saddle thief then he's about 6'2" white male, pretty skinny, dark medium length hair. Didn't see the face though. :(

Today i discovered that 3 of mine and my brothers motocross bikes have been stolen.
I am asking you if you could look out for a suspicious looking van that was seen in the area.
Its was a smallish van (camper size) that was painted red (possibly rattle canned) with a small peep hole scratched out of the paint on the window. There were also some decals that have been painted over that i couldn't quite make out.
These bikes were very much loved and any help will be rewarded as well as very much appreciated.
Thank you
Here is a rough mock of the van:

oh dude that sucks!
a little more info would help, where in london are you? were these bikes 100% taken away in the van?
and probably more importantly do you have pictures of the bikes? they are unlikely to stay in the van for very long.

Tell me about it.
We are based in Wandsworth. No not 100% but these guys were so sketchy. They defo looked like they were on a scout.
Heres one of the bikes. Im having a hard time finding decent pictures of the other two.

My garage in leeds was broken into last night.
The following is out spamming the internet:I lost my road bike, a 2010 colnago primavera like this:
http://www.roadcyclinguk.com/gear-news/colnago-primavera/3983.html
but with a black saddle.and a marin b-17 mountain bike like this:
http://www.marin.co.uk/2008/bikedetail.php?ModNo=3872.both bikes are stock apart from both have weird pedals. The mountain bike has spd cleats buried in normal loking flat pedals and the road bike has basic spd pedals that are starting to rust. The road bike also has a tiny little 80mm stem (that i only just %**%^&£$ing bought) and a cycle computer reading around 640miles zip tied to the left side of the handlebars and a nice cat eye light like this:
http://s.wiggle.co.uk/images/cateye-el320-light-zoom.jpg
attached on the right hand side.Fortunately my track bike (and girlfriends equestrian saddle were left) but none the less im utterly gutted.
eyes out please leeds! i will shower rewards up you if you help in their recovery.
yours gutted
Tshould i post my phone number in case of someone getting lucky?

... and here's the Standard article on Charlotte's bikes:
What is going on with the brake on the middle bike, i'm pist, but i've looked twice and it looks worng???
This just pissed me right off. And Hester's stolen one too.
Bah, I give up. First time I've heard of a bike-chained one being taken.
Bad luck OPer. You're right that Pashley maybe shouldn't fit QR seatbolts as standard. But that does mean you could take your post/saddle with you when you lock up, though this isn't always very convenient.
