  • agree with the saddle n bars, but wheels are just personal opinion

  • Mismatched wheels only works when it's a disc on the back.

I thought that till i saw Hobo's mash

  • wheels are just personal opinion

    Personal, but correct.

  • I love this forum!
We are so nerdy that we start to discuss the handlebar and seat angles on a Pedal Id sketch!

    Ha ha...

  • nice work, who did the paint job?

    Mario Vaz.
Paint job is quite good, but I already managed to chip a fork after a little knock against my scooter.

How long ago was it painted - did you build it immediately, or wait a bit?

Well, right after it dried actually. When I put the frame around my neck to ride back home from the workshop, my fault really...
Mario gave me a sample of the metallic blue for touch-ups, but I had to chip the white/cream forks !

  • Oh bad luck. Get some modelmakers' enamel, it'll be OK.

  • Got an old Holdsworth Zephyr frame from fleabay a couple of weeks ago :

Paint had a few scratches, but the worst was that the previous owner put Hetchins decals all over, under the lacquer.

So got Grandma a facelift :

    does he rattle can?

Personally I think this would be much better - Saddle and bars in the correct position and matching wheels. Mismatched wheels only works when it's a disc on the back.

    Needs ellipses? or campag pista...

  • @hugonissa - very nice! very very nice, who dun the paintings?

Edit, didn't realise there was a new page. im up to speed now

  • I really, really want one of these for summer. Looks brilliant. Where do you get those Wald baskets in the UK?

the great people at Tokyo Fixed.

  • @Skully: yep, I planned to visit Modelzone in Holborn ASAP. They have quite a good selection in store.

    Thanks.
Vaz doesn't rattle can, he has a proper workshop.
It is not built yet. First as between the frame and the paint job, my fixie budget is a bit on the low, and then because I want to find good deals on specific parts, which might take some time.

My main idea is to mix modern and classic parts, not to do a straight renovation job. From what I've read around here, some forumengers might have a light stroke when they see the heretic final result hehehe...

  • ive been thinking about buying this....

    ;)

Or just wait until a second hand one comes up on here and in the mean time use the "soft cheese" miche supertype....

I may have some very long, used Mike Burrows blades if you're interested.

  • Target weight = 6000g

Got some 'spare' lightweight bits lying around if you need.

6kg is actually pretty easy on a single speed build, my dolan is at 5.2kg with just chain, rear cog, lockring and pedals left to add. And I have used proper strong track parts, real gear ratios (no mini cogs) and not the lightest of anything.

  • are we going to have a final picture and rundown when the seta is finished gizmond?

Look half way down on this thread..I tried mixing old and new and it doesn't IMHO work. Whereas a carefully put together restoration looks beautiful..
You have to have a modern bike and an old one. In between just looks in between.

If you're anal obsessive dedicated enough to strip off a pretty sound looking, smart, some would even say schweet paintjob - and replace it with, it has to be said, another pretty fine one - because it had the wrong decals on, you're not gonna fuck up on the build. Because there will be dissapoint.

How much does you PX weigh with normal wheels on? (something along the lines of mavic ellipses) It must be easily under 9kg?

I'm hoping that i can get me and my PX to come in under 70kg.... but cant be fucked to bring it into to work to get an accurate weight off the giant digi scales.

I'm not being nobby about weight but thought it'd be interesting to keep track of how much it'll end up at.

None of; frame, forks, stem or bars are what you'd call 'diet' items.

Anyway... What you got going spare?

  • are we going to have a final picture and rundown when the seta is finished gizmond?

Will do, but I have swerved some of the super lightweight bits now, the SLX forks at 285g where too flexy, so back to the original (heavy) dolan ones for now.

(cheap crap digital) Scales broke a few weeks ago, so last lot of bits never got weighed.

    I'll have a dig.

Tried a few 'lightweight' innertubes and the only ones that seem any good are the michelin aircomp ultralight.

Never weighed it tbh. I have just switched back from the ec90s to nitto b123 cromo, so that has put another half kilo back on.

If I had to guess I would say about 6kg without wheels

  • Atom Labs General Issue for 26 quid inc shipping. Am I onto something here?
Are there any significantly better flat pedals with ball bearings under the 50 quid mark?

  • I'll have a dig.

I'm a massive fan of the michelin latex inners.

  • Wanted a shorter stem for the Dolan, figured when it came to 1-1/8" it was a no brainer really.
