I've got an old Specialized Air-8 or something, but it's getting pretty battered after 2years and frankly I want a zipper one.. I'd love a Catlike Whisper, but can never find the white ones cheap. Cheap being around £70mark, willing to spend about that much. I quite like the look of Giro Ionos/Pro Light, Specialized 2D/S-Works but they're all so expensive! sob. Can anyone suggest pro looking, small helmets that are more within my price range that are similar to those? Or sites where I can buy cheaply? Much appreciated.

Compromise slightly?

They sound like very sporty helmets. I got mine from Bobbin. It's like a skater-style Pro-tec one. They have a great range, but it's not professionally sporty stuff so may not be relevant. But if anyone else is looking I recommend that place. I took about an hour trying them all on, when I realised I am never going to look good in a helmet and it's beside the point!

The uvex range are pro level and cheaper than catlike etc. plus you can get them
In the colours of your favourite teams (if those teams are Columbia, FDJ etc.) circa 60 for mine and it's hugely comfy. -

And check out fudges for cheapest on uvex.

I currently sport a fetching £20 helmet from Decathlon:
But have been told the black/grey form is not a very good look.
Is there any decent guidance on which helmets don't look like the wearer's bike should be fitted with stabilisers?

No helmet is the new helmet, just get a cool looking cycling cap instead, you will skid better.

I was on a forum ride recently about four people were all wearing one that didn't have that obligatory lumpy fin-like thing on the back of it. It had roundish air holes and I want one. I've forgotten what it was called though. I think the guy (cliveo) on the left of this photo may be wearing it ... anyone know what it is? Clive?
*aw shit the pic won't embed, it's here fifth pic down

Unfortunately not an option. SWMBO has well and truly vetoed that option.
I meant to ask: "If arguments for and against helmet use are ignored, and it is assumed a helmet must be procured and worn, which helmets best avoid looking ridiculous?"

Alas - Clive is no more
Catlike whisper helmets look ok

Yep, guess that's it. Thanks timmah.Still has a slightly fin thing on the back, bah. Guess it looked less horrible than most. Faint praise.

the main problem I find is most helmets just made me look like a mushroom.
I had a Giro Atmos that looked good, but I didn't get on with the shape.
The Catlike ones look really nice in real life. I saw a Mavic one that looked nice but can't seem to find them anywhere to have a feel.
I bought a cheap Briko one recently but the placement of the holes means I couldn't hear anything for the wind noise, and it looked like a mushroom.
So I bought a Lazer 02 that arrived yesterday and so far am happy with it. Not crazy light, but not heavy enough for me to notice it, not too much wind noise and doesn't look tooo bad and quite comfortable.

Who gives a crap what they look like.. everyone already thinks you're a bell for cycling anyway and since you can't see the helmet (unless you use mirrors) buy one that fits and doesn't overheat you precious brainy wainys. Any normal road lid.. none of that equestrian lookin' Bern shit though. If you're riding flatland and aged under 21 maybe you'll get away with a skate lid but that's about it.

You haz it.

That loser definitely needs stabilisers.Currently topping my list are Sumo's Lazer 02 and the Specialized S-Works:
(Thanks for the mergalisation)

helmet with no shark fin:
Sometimes as you tighten the internal straping the helmet slids up or backwards. This makes the helmet feel shallow.
It could be you need to find a strap system that fits your head better. In other words a better fitting helmet.
