money wise. £3k? pm me if you dont want to say in public
No idea, not keeping track of the cost
hrm... whats the deal/weight of those wheelie bits?
1760g ish including track nuts, so about 1800g I guess with the rim tapes, as they won't take veloplugs

/feel free not to answer if you find it vulgar and un-gentlemanly to discuss such matters.

Finally finished my 1976 (ish) Dawes Flambeau, not a whole lot known about this model, but from what I worked out it was a very average quality 70's tourer, 56/56cm. Mechanically in fantastic condition, though obviously seen some serious usage over the years.
as wasStripped it back to bare metal as what was left of the original paint weren't pretty and I wanted to end up with something that was half decent looking and nice to potter about on, I say potter as its geared fairly low as I don't live in london, I live in the lake district and we have mountains round here like ;)
Biggest change being paint and wheelset. The original chrome items rolled fine but the rims were becoming rotten. Picked up a pair of mavic tub rims on shimano 600's which had never seen a brake before from a bike charity/recycling place, for a couple of quid, front inner races were pretty pitted though so ended up going for a more modern more basic no name job (weighs a tonne though).
Other bits were a free saddle to replace the rotten leatherette, fresh balls in all the right places and some fresh tape.
Its taken months to get round to it thanks to no spare time available and round the clock working hours (for little pay), but finally I had a bit of motivation to just get out there and ride kicked in and I managed a few late ones dishing & truing up the wheels etc, to get it done(ignore black tape on top tube, need a pair of the little chrome cable widgets).
Ignore scruffy yard, insulation tape, old pedals (got 105's to go on), mismatched wheels (tub/clinch), brakes at reach limit, 700c wheels where there should be 27" and flexy but cool looking 3arm stronglights. (and for LFGSS purist crew.... light mount on fork and mech cable guides as in time it'll prob go back to geared when I can afford it).
**42:17t (remember the mountains) + 7spd mtb chain + 70's 3arm stronglights (no.6?) and my blue & grey colour scheme :p I'm expecting hatorz for all of this.... **
**The bars are my favourite bit, pretty narrow but perfect width, reach & drop for me.**Got a hour on it this afternoon round local roads and enjoyed it, sure it ain't the prettiest, ain't gonna win any LFGSS purity points, but its cost me about £30-40 all in and about 15-20hours time wise, and it suits the amount & level of (road) riding that I do, so MEH. helpful crit welcome though.

Had a few requests for some photos of my Colnago. It is getting there - now fitted with some rather nice NOS 6500 SPD pedals (which take MTB SPD cleats). Unfortunately they are scratched after one 30 mile ride, but that's just going to get worse, what can you do. They have an awesome little tension dial.
I'm currently struggling with tyres. Have decided the Vredstein Tricomp's are not for me, and black and red is clearly the wrong colour.
So it's going to be Maxxis Refuses, probably in black, maybe in 'aqua', 'sky blue' or 'blue' to coordinate with the blue bits in the paintwork (it used to have blue and black tyres, see bottom pic, and that would match the logo sections on the seat/down tubes). But I'm just thinking black goes with everything really. Plus they'd be cheaper...
Lovely.
Black tyres definitely.
Terrible picture, but coming along
Added vittoria evo corsa cx tyres, michelin aircomp tubes, stronglight titanium BB, fsa carbon pista cranks. Veloplugs don't fit :-(
Still need, lighter forks, bars, saddle, pedals and chain. Probably going to be more like 6kg than the 5.5kg I was aiming for, but with good strong components, no weight weenie bits.
Really like that, looks fast.

Neither. Measured holes, emailed the chaps in germany, was told nothing would fit. But I am pretty sure they are the same rims as the attack?
The spoke holes on my rims are 10mm, too big even for the 9.3mm yellow plugs :-(

prehaps Reynolds have changed moulds since I bought my Attacks and opened the spoke holes out .. I may be wrong, but commercially why have a different mould for the track rim and a road rim? anyway, bit of a shame for you as the Veloplugs are a cheap and good saving on weight right at the rim.

I think they are anodised...
I assumed he used the emery paper to remove it instead of caustic soda, wasn't very clear there, obviously it removes deeper marks, and sorry Malaysian, I'm pretty sure anodising doesn't happen over time and does indeed require electricity.
Saturday night, correcting people on the internet, when I'm not 100% sure anyway, dream big.caustic soda didn't work, used same concentration that stripped my chainring ring in seconds, they only thing that started to react was the threads, not ideal... so promptly took it out and got to work with emery paper, not great for getting in the milled bits, but with a bit of elbow grease, i'll get there... also used autosol to polish it up, amazing stuff!

Adjustable Front Basket Design
Ikea Basket £4.09
M5 nuts and bolts FREEDisassembled
Small
Large
The idea being, one half will be fixed to the bike as normal and the other half can be shifted back or forward to change the size by undoing the 4 bolts

Good idea. Do you think you could do something clever with quick-release squewers?
Edit: I'm now thinking of some sort of bolt thru the top of the bolts. A bit like the way a grenade pin works???

The pompino build gets a little more expensive. Ordered some Tektro RL520 levers tonight, along with some Avid Single Digit 5's. Decided the V brakes I already have are, well... crap. I also have some dia-compe levers, but they're a little scruffy hence the RL520's. My "cheap" build is costing more than I had first thought, but I don't care so much.
