  • Too late, the registration date for volunteering has passed.

Oh well, I'm sure we can still force them to volunteer us.

  • i have just been selected for interview by London 2012 to be a gamemaker / volunteer, for olympic and para olympic duties with cycling events.. wish me luck..

    Al

  • Nope...

Isn't Simon Lillistone an ex-Halosowen CC rider?

  • Just ridden on it

  • 10.9?

    just ridden on it

  • 10.9?

technical merit or artistic impression ?

  • Just ridden on it

    titspics or GTFO

  • 10.9?

Not allowed to go above the blue line so didn't do an effort, only did 32 mph.
Went much faster at Manchester yesterday ;)

As for Pics, none allowed on pain of death, but the press were there in force so watch out for the reports to start appearing. (I managed to stay out of the way I think)

  • Just ridden on it

    Excellent
    Is it nice?

  • Just looked on Google news and first result is Scalextric velodrome

  • Excellent
    Is it nice?

It's very nice. The natural light from the roof makes the space feel bigger and the track very clear. Almost like being outside but not!

The wood is rather dusty at the moment but still very grippy, bit difficult to really tell what it feels like without being able to get high and really gas it. The transitions are super smooth.
It's the best velodrome in the country. And it's here. In London's famous London.

  • Awesome Rob.

I'm missing out on a trip to Manchester as it clashes with the Tour of wessex and so cannot wait for the opportunity to ~~slide down the banking ~~ride regularly on a proper velodrome.

  • Manchester rules hard too. But it's a bit like calshot compared to London's famous Olympic Legacy Velodrome.

  • Just so long as West Ham don't play at the velodrome when they give the athletics stadium t Spurs

  • more on the velodrome including a detailed presentation by the architect who led the design team:

  • any news on when the first event will be held on the pringle ?
would be nice to fill it up with shouty forumengers

  • the first event
    with crowds and racing etc

  • any news on when the first event will be held on the pringle ?

I've talked to a few people about this and basically although the track is finished, the rest of the site will be gradually struck back as each part reaches conclusion. This will take right up to when the Athletes arrive and start training.

Whilst construction is going on, getting in and out of the velodrome (especially with bikes) is a major, major ball-ache. I wouldn't rule out a few more VIP excursions for press reasons before the games (such as the Halesowen trip, the VCL one I was on last week and the GB squad coming down on after the world cup)

Nice they thought of Hoy's toilets.

I just realised there's no rail to set rollers next to. The track centre is sunken so you can't use the inner rail like you can at newport. I imagone there will be some sort of modular partitions like at Manc.

  • Surely they'll have a junior worlds (or similar) on it this year? Std practice to check it all works, innit?

  • you would think so
but i'm contemplating joining vcl for one of those " outings "

  • I thought it was an IOC requirement that every venue held a major event BEFORE the Olympics.

  • "All venues must stage a test event before the Games begin in July 2012 and the Olympic Delivery Authority, the body responsible for building the Olympic Park, expect to start handing over keys to organisers Locog next summer."
