My old housemate used to keep his £1200 fixie in his room for that reason. Thing is, it rarely left the room... I think he was too paranoid to actually ride it.

How often do solid axle wheels get pinched if they're not obviously valuable or boutique? I use pinheads on my road bike, not sure what to do about track wheels. Rather not buy/carry extra locks for the wheels.

^ in London? You may as well put a sign on it saying "free wheel, help yourself". You know how easy it is to remove a wheel.
Invest the (not much) money in an extra lock or Pitlocks or similar. Everyone on here will agree. -

Not a complete bike, but mate had his H+Son front wheel robbed off his bike down in Chelsea harbour yesterday, seems about 4 or 5 fixed/ss bike were targeted and had parts removed!
If anyone sees or is offered a polished silver H+Son rim on a white hub with Bontrager race lite tyre, drop me a pm. Cheers.

RE : stealing wheels, if its a battered, old, buckled dirty piece of shit that you don't think you'd sell at a boot sale for a quid, you'll probably get away with not locking it. Anything that looks anywhere normal, that you'd buy for a fiver upwards, and you're leaving it for a while... lock it, because someone else will pay a fiver for it on Brick Lane and that is good enough for some people. Its a drag but it beats going home on the bus completely pissed off. I learned the hard way.

success story last sunday down brick lane
popped down there with a mate to see for myself whether all the hype about this place selling moody gear was true. well low and behold within a few minutes of getting onto the street i saw a dodgy looking chap getting apprehended by the police... looked like he was selling a carerra silver mountain bike. some chap pointed him out then a couple of coppers grabbed him, turned the bike upside down and started asking him some questions. just wish i had my camera with me to get his mugshot to show the scumbag on here. maybe another post should be set up on here to show 'the scumbags hall of shame' or something?

Might be an idea to put a saved search on ebay of 'Lo Pro' whcih will email you with results every day? Assuming that the scrote who stole it knows what it is...

A friend had his white schwinn madison (white with red ESPN style graphics 2008?) stolen from his hallway 2-3 weeks ago. Frame has a good few scratches and was all stock parts. Primarily identified by a seized seatpost in the frame. keep an eye out as they are not common frames and wernt widley imported over here.

Yet with surprisingly good photos - I wonder if the chap selling it bought it from a thief, and is now re-selling it?

Yeah the photos are good. But his patter is honking.

I saw the police giving some bloke a load of grief the previous sunday too. They turned the bike upside down, checked the serial number then eventually let him go. Im not exactly pro-funbuster all of the time, but it was good to see something happening on the bike front.
As they were doing it though, some big mouthed passer by got involved and started going on about how the police were harassing people with nice bikes and the 'wrong look' and wouldn't leave them alone, asking them why they didn't 'check his camera serial' and so on. He followed them half the length of the lane trying to make an example of them. Essentially he was just a busybody who had butted into a situation he wasn't anything to do with. It was really annoying.

A friend of mine had her pink and yellow Nishiki Triathlon stolen tonight.
It was taken from Tanners Hilll, Deptford, somewhere between 4 and 7pm; unfortunately I can't be any more descriptive regarding components etc - I'll update the post with more info when I get it.
There's a reward offered, but hopefully a bit of forum justice will come through and she won't have to pay to recover what is rightfully hers. -

This was stolen from my office building in Smithfield last night along with a mates brand new red Planex.
Please keep your eyes peeled and if you have any info drop me PM.
58 Cinelli Vigorelli (with some temporary black steel forks on it instead of the originals) It also has a black H+S rim on the front now instead of the white rim in this pic. Other than that its the same as in the pic.
White Concor seat, Thomson stem, Cinelli Pepper bars, carbon seatpost, Phil wood hubs on blk H+S on the front & Phil on a white B43 on the back, Miche Primato chainset, Black NS pedals with Jol straps, half link chain.
Will be heading to brick lane tomorrow I guess...

Isn't that the street where stolen bike are sold on?
really good to see people coming together to recover and weed out the crooks. everyone I've spoken to in london has had a whole bike or parts thereof nicked since living there, more of the time from houses/ halls/sheds/front railings of buildings rather than office & city locations, I would have thought it was the other way around.
IS there some organised outward export of bikes from london to some other parts of the country, say oxford, camberidge, bristol, manchester to avoid identity/recovery, or is that too organised?
where I live in the lake district crime comes in spates as gangs of vans drive up from liverpool, manchester, leeds/brapford set up camp out of a travellodge somewhere, then go about filling their vans from raids on various villages (one per night), then return south to sell stuff, which is rarely ever recovered as its out of our constabulary region.
Lost 2 bikes from a 3ft thick walled shed which were shackled to a homemade anchor bolt. they attacked chain, gave up on that, attacked the anchor, gave up on that, attacked the frame then thought better of it and jack hammered a 1ft cubic chunk out of the floor using our own gear (stupidly stored in the same shed), very distintive beast, reported to have been seen once by another forum member (mbuk back in the day) at a jump spot, and stupidly had never checked house insurance covered it, it didn't :(
