  • I think they are referring to the FaceBook profile

  • oh yeah. duh!

Anyones? The desciption is just cut and pasted and nothing like the bike.

  • And so... I just took a look at a Charge on gumtree and thought the description was a bit thick. Searched the phone number... and whaddya know... another share going on between jason, billy, george and terry.

Anyone missing the following? Somehow I dont think these are actual photos, apart from the MTB. there is also a Cannondale cad3 m900 Hybrid (according to the post) but the pic wont load, only the thumbnail.

    This fellas number is 07949938686

  • Just come home to find that the 5 bikes have been stolen from shared hallway in our house on Queensbridge Road - Dalston between 5:00 and 6:30 this evening. (18/10/10)

Particularly gutting as three belonged to friends who had left their bikes at our house while we went down the pub as "it'd be safer".

An electrician had been doing work in the hall and there is a good chance he left the door on the latch - as our upstairs neighbour came along to close the door and noticed the bikes were missing.

So if anyone see's them send me a PM or give me a call (my number is on the numbers thread)

    1.
Mine is a 55cm white Concorde Aquila track bike with Miche cranks, Miche hubs laced to open pro's, Cinelli stem, Cinelli bars, Campy record headset and a custom leather saddle made by my mate Jan with swallow motive:

Here's a picture of the bike with different componants:

My girlfriends is a 52cm resprayed 2009 Condor Potenza, now pigeon blue with white forks (no decals). Sugino/Condor cranks and Miche Pista wheels, ladies Brooks saddle.

    3.
Specialized Rock Hopper, Mostly Shimano Deore components I believeā€¦ I'll get a better description - but it's the one on the right in this picture:

    1. 51/52cm (?) Carlton Ladies Mixte, Blue with original components, brown leather barwrap and ladies Charge Saddle, here it is with different saddle/bartape:

    5.
53/54cm(?) Specialized Allez, Matt Black with Sora components and a Specialized ladies Bodyform saddle, looked like this:

Here's a pic of the Concorde, Condor and the Carlton - they were all friends and hung out in the park together:

  • Hello! About the above the bikes, to me heck although I'm gutted the main thing is to get our friends bikes back they may not be all swish and fancy like to some of you kids out there with Colnago masters but they were their bikes which I persuaded them to leave in our house. I am feeling proper guilty right now :( Any any any anything thing that you come across please do let us know ...
    Hanx

  • F@@@uck!
You should clobber that electrician for a start. Wonder how many of you lock their bikes when they are at home/shed through the wheel and frame. I mean its likely this was a van-outside-the-door case but generally an opportunistic thief (which generally most are) might decide its too much of a hassle to carry the bike along with all your other floggable belongings. i for one have more bikes than locks. think i am gonna have to change that and start keeping them locked when they are in the shed. Spare d-locks anyone?

  • you are so right :( we did sometimes lock them but unfortunately not in this case. I wonder if we can bring some case against this guy since we don't have any insurance and are now out of pocket for his mistake ......

  • Ouch. That sucks. I guess if you can't prove it you're fucked. Im considering getting bike insurance - anyone got any horror stories / recommendations? is there a thread?

  • i guess there's at least a decent chance it was the electrician, or a friend of..

send the police round to the electrician's, at least..

  • Hey. More bromptons if anyone is missing one - Do Brompton owners actually lock up their bikes?
So many on ebay - 1 day listings, awful descriptions and the sellers have sold plenty before.

    Item numbers include -

    120635493089 130445476137 120635354263 -

...took me a year to find a legitimate Brompton second hand in London!

  • dirkbang sorry for your losses, I live near Dalston so will try to keep an eye out. Too late for you but to be honest I live in a flat within a house with a big shared hallway and I'd rather leave my bike locked in the street than leave it in the hallway for more than a minute.

As phi_pp says, if that's your only option try to find something to lock to, but shared hallways aren't safe places.

  • jesus. what exactly do the gendarmes require in order to go round to this misserable little scrotes gaffe and clap him in irons? what is gumtrees policy regarding this sort of thing?
I gather they're happy to cooperate with police when requested - supplying what info they have including email address and IP address. However I'm sure you see how easy it is to place an add with an untraceable ip and email these days. Getting a correct physical address based on phone/email/ip can be difficult/impossible.

time to get 4chan on the case...

  • Sure does get through his Bromptons

Never heard of www.bikeshd.co.uk till a couple of days ago (keeping an eye out for my lady's Boardman), but it really is amazing how many dodgy looking bikes come up

  • Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu*k! I woke up today to find out some sick bastard stole my front white machined Velocity Deep V with Campag Record Pista hub (old version), and Brooks Ti honey saddle + Campag Chorus Aero seatpost + Brooks honey Saddle bag. Not only that, my faltmates' Brooks saddle and Charge spoon saddle as well. We normally lock the bike onto thick metal fence right outside the flat in the open-air hallway and you need an electronic key to gain the access to the building!! Weird thing is other bikes on the different floor and even the same floor were ok but not ours! I'll put some photos up later. I will have to spend all day tomorrow going through CCTV with landlord...

Meanwhile, please let me know if you see anyone selling those stuff.

I had a chance to look at the surveillance camera, and the thief looked professional and definitely was targeting my bike and my flatmate's. Funny thing was after he climbed over the main gate, he opened the gate with the button from the inside then dragged 'his bike' in to secure it while he does his 'job'. By the way this happend on Treadway Street just off Hackney Road, near Cambridge Heath Rd side, so if you live around beware and always lock everything not just your frame or take it into your flat.

ps. I feel so sorry for your loss dirkbang. 5 bikes!! that is a lot!!!! I'm not that far from your area, if I see anything will let you know. cheer up!

  • that is taking the piss. I wonder if he actually owned the bike he rode in on.

  • I got some good news fellas:

My wife's condor has been recovered yesterday from a local bike shop where someone brought it in for ''some work''. It looks a bit different now but i am over the moon it is back home with us again.

You wouldn't believe the situation. Since the four bikes got stolen I am very intensively searching all around reading, Sunday car boot sales, local secondary schools, bike shops, know hang about places for dodgy people, river paths and so on and so on.

Just a couple of days after the theft i took the small gitane over from a dickhead who rode it in my neighborhood but himself unfortunately managed to escape. i wasn't running fast enough (i had to carry gitane around as it was far to small for me to ride it) to catch him. then everything went silent for a couple of weeks. Suddenly a dedicated local cop took my case over as he thought he saw someone riding on my specialized a few days before but wasn't sure about it at that time. really nice guy, enthusiast cyclist himself we spoke and he gave me a tip to visit a local ,,buy everything - sell everything - repair anything shop''

Yesterday back in action i walked into that shop for a routine check and voila my wifes condor on a repair stand being fitted with new bars, levers... I asked the shop staff who's bike that was? they said someone brought it in that morning without a stem and with drop bars hanging on cables and asked them to put risers and new levers that he brought in with the bike. I told them the bike was mine and immediately called the police to come down and recover my bike. I have to say huge thanks to this dedicated neighborhood police officer who came in no time, seized the stolen property and officially returned it back to me.

So two bikes are still missing out of four. Specialized singlecross and giant ocr2. The officer will help putting an article in a local press with big pictures of my missing bikes as he experienced good results in this way earlier.

I now need to find a photoshop expert to change the front rim and tyre color on the specialized and tyres color on the giant. If one of you has such skill could you please come forward?

Many thanks guys and gals for all your help and moral support in this thread.

    Hi Guys and Gulls,

My back garden has been attacked by most likely organized group of thieves on the night between the 26sep and 27sep between 11pm and 7am.

They broke into a neighbours garden (end terrace) jumped over into my one (next house to end terrace) and took 4 bikes all locked one to another with 1 krypto new york 18mm lock, 1 krypto new york 16mm lock and with a magnum 14mm chain to a shed.

Bikes were not at all visible from the street as the neighbours fence is around 7ft tall brick wall.

I suspect this was tipped of by someone in the neighbourhood or so. Noone heard anything including myself

4 Very nice bikes have been taken:

    1) Specialized singleecross 58cm. rear wheel is a dp 18 bblack rim on ON-ONE hub while the front wheel was a white deep v type rim on quando hub with red tyre on.

    2) Condor 49cm orange fixie with lime green deep profile rims on silver formulas with blue tyres. sugino chainset, selle LDY saddle, yellow tape. real eye catcher. since picctured the tyres were changed to blue ones.

    3) Small 50cm gitane fixie. powder coated in pink with orange bullhorns. white deep v type wheels with red tyres

    4) Giant OCR2 roady . 61cm. red tyres sora triple chainset ( new type sora), 105 9 speed cassette and mech, Tiagra STIs ultegra front mech. orange bar tape. don't have a pic of this one but the pic shown bellow is exactly the same giant as this one was exceept the orange bar tape and red tyres.

I expect some of these bike to be offered for sale in London or eventually Oxford in the next couple of weeks. Some of you may also spot them being ridden around.

If you spot them PM me please :-)

Any kind of information will be gratefully appreciated

  • please make sure you report any thefts to the bike theft task force

please see the what to do when your bike is stolen thread

Cheers mate! You're just the guy i was looking for :-) the specialized needs front rim painted in white and front tyre painted in red. The giant needs both tyres painted red and the bar tape in orange. i don't have any high res pix of them. the specialized picture is 1600x1200 and the giants one is 1024x768 unfortunately.

here is a direct link for the giants picture:

Thank you so much for your help :-)

  • Slightly OT but anyone from SW (Raynes park particularity) people have been being followed if they are riding a good bike and then getting their bike stolen overnight. So keep an extra eye out for anything dodge, on your way home etc.

  • My friend's bike was nicked last night along with a lot of others, from outside the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel - I don't know what the other bikes were, but I had literally just finished building this one for her and had only delivered it on Sunday! Needless to say, she is gutted... I haven't even cashed the cheque yet, and don't know if I can bring myself to do it at all now. I will be checking Brick lane etc, but if people can keep their eyes open, that would be appreciated. Its a SS raleigh candice, with yellow grips and risers...

    Cheers! A

No worries. Happy to help. Sorry it took all day. Work was a bit of a facemelter, so they're not quite up to my usual standard, but ought to do the job. Hope the colours are vaguely accurate. The white rim was a bastard.

    Specialized:
    Front rim white
    Front tyre red
    Here

    Giant:
    Both tyres red
    Bar tape orange
    Here

Let me know when you've grabbed them so I can delete them off my FTP.
    Cheers,

  • That is just fantastic :-)
Thank you so much! If there is anything that i could help with please don't hesitate to ask ( chemistry is my field and bike mechanics my hobby)
I'll put the pix in the local press called ,,Reading Post'' and hope that someone will come forward. It's really incredible how many scum lives in the area. I just say a couple of youngsters riding on hugely expensive MTBs down the road. Someone is most likely missing those bikes a lot. Very sad...
