Or someone has reported it and gumtree took it todnw?

Both above points are of course correct. These posts can go down as quick as they go up, and we'll not know the reason. However one viewpoint would be that if there's a chance of alerting the owners to what might be their bikes we should perhaps take it. If I deffo spotted someones exact bike from here I would just pm them.
It probably needs a sharper mind than I to call on wether posting dodgy ads is counter productive but if pricks like Ashley are takimg action based on us posting then we are at the very least disrupting there little enterprise.
Nobody steals a bike cause they like bikes, they just like money. It's just a 'product' that happens to be reasonably stealable and easily marketable. These twats will always rob and fence but if we can disrupt their ability to turn a bike to cash quickly then there's a chance bikes will become a less attractive target. When I were a nipper it was cars, then the industry woke up and introduced barriers (Imobilisers, trackers, key code technology etc) and alot of thieves probably moved on to something else.
My previous career centred on the protection of stock and money and although not the most direct and satisfying method of securing your business, disruption and annoying the fuck out of those targeting you slowly saw them move on. Ashley needs money for his 'spliffs' and 'next level beats' and at the moment he's clearly finding bikes a good proposition. If his ability to flog his stuff starts to get too complicated and difficult he might start fencing other 'products' out of nessecity.
I don't have the definitive answer but I'm looking forward to hopefully opening a dialogue with the cycle task force to garner their opinions, it is the police after all who have the mandate and experience to deal with these bumholes, not some miserable northern layabout with one of the worst hangovers I've had this year.
Stay safe people ! -

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu*k! I woke up today to find out some sick bastard stole my front white machined Velocity Deep V with Campag Record Pista hub (old version), and Brooks Ti honey saddle + Campag Chorus Aero seatpost + Brooks honey Saddle bag. Not only that, my faltmates' Brooks saddle and Charge spoon saddle as well. We normally lock the bike onto thick metal fence right outside the flat in the open-air hallway and you need an electronic key to gain the access to the building!! Weird thing is other bikes on the different floor and even the same floor were ok but not ours! I'll put some photos up later. I will have to spend all day tomorrow going through CCTV with landlord...
Meanwhile, please let me know if you see anyone selling those stuff.

Gutted for you!!! There are some right c**ts out there!!! Don't wish to pay for it, so just take someone else's!!! Bring these people to justice... hope something comes up on the CCTV...

Just had a nose around gumtree - this fella with two names has three bikes that he's been 'riding for 1 month'. Three of them have gone up in 3 days. Not SS or fixie but I thought Id give it a mention.
Just in case anyone's missing a black and yellow Carrera TDF road pro :
http://www.gumtree.com/london/83/67058083.html
a white marin :
http://www.gumtree.com/london/56/67132356.html
or a red and black challenger...

this might be the guy to talk to.

Absolutely gutting... but I can't believe with such a flashy seat/post you didn't have it all secured somehow!
This thread seems to be getting worse but I think it's just that more people are posting here, rather than the situation getting worse..?

My lady's Boardman Comp fi went in the last few days.. Damn. (http://www.boardmanbikes.com/fi/fi_road_comp.html)
Not exactly sure on date as it lives in the downstairs of her building in London Bridge. It had some heavy Arbus chain securing it to the bike rack against the wall in a secure room where the bins are kept (i.e. only go in if you live in the building, or are binmen picking up the rubbish i think). Instead of cutting the chain, they took the whole bike bracket thing off the wall!
Where would a bike like this normally go? Ebay? Figure they can't be too many of the women's ones about.

Ah, just found a photo
Has two white plastic bottle cages (thought it was 2, looks like one in this phot) and flat metal pedals, i.e. not clipless.
She's emailed the met bike task force and i'm keeping an eye on that bikeshd website.

you locked it outside on the fence of your new place overnight is asking for trouble, especially with an expensive bicycle.
have a look at this;

UPDATE : had another look at the 9 bikes that have gone up on gumtree today, all from the same phone number - a bit of detective work shows it's that Ashley guy again. Seems he was busy this weekend. Id say that Plug is definitely nicked.
heres the Plug :
and there are a number of other bikes up there too : Giant Defy 4, Cannondale Bad Boy, Langster, Pinnacle Mean Streak, Specialized Allez Sport, Specialized Tricross, a Brompton and a Marin Fairfax.

jesus. what exactly do the gendarmes require in order to go round to this misserable little scrotes gaffe and clap him in irons? what is gumtrees policy regarding this sort of thing?

Ashley seems to think he's in compettition with Evans the number of bikes he's trying to flog. 'Cept Evans don't change their names, re-format their phone number or give varied and bollocks excuses for why they're selling hooky rides.
I have forwarded the ads, his number AND what I suspect to be his facebook page and therefore likely identity to the mets cycle task force. Hopefully they will investigate.
Of course he might have a legitimate reason for such an obscure business model, hey! Maybe we should email him and arrange a forum drinky to receive his wisdom, join forces and give all the overworthy but can't be arsed hipster shops the good hiding they so richly deserve.

cool - i was just done screen-shotting the lot of them to do the same. I'll email them over as well, maybe it'll make a difference if its coming from more than one source.
I dont know if you noticed, but there's another email address on one of those ads (with Ashley's phone number) for this guy. Shame there's no picture.

Im in the nursery, if you're referring to me.
@Northern Rob - great work and as recent victim of theft feel similarly about such Gumtree sellers.
However, all those above adverts disappeared within hours of your post - I'm guessing the more enlightened "Ashleys" read this thread too and remove the ads if "spotted"...and if so, maybe we are actually making it less likely to get them nicked if we broadcast the dodgy Gumtree finds here before letting the Task Force get involved (as the Task Force will then have less evidence against them, won't they?). But I guess there's also the objective of reuniting bikes and owners to be considered... anyway just thinking out loud here...views?
