  • Yeah we have found another new court, it's literally brand new and not on any maps or anything so I think it was discovered by chance! It's a little too short for competitive playing but is perfect for lazy Sunday throw-ins

It's also right on the outskirts of town in a new unfinished housing estate and so far we've not had a trouble getting on there. It's floodlit, til 10... For free!

  • Nokon, not for the whole cable, but from the lever to the top-tube, then an oiler, then normal cable. You don't need to buy a Nokon cable kit, I just buy extension kits, which are 80cm of outer and 1m of inner for both gear and brake cabling. Use cable oilers to connect the Nokon to the normal outer.

    Nokon Extension kit, £15 http://j.mp/9LbATo
Middleburn Cable Oilers, £5.99 http://j.mp/aX69rq (you need 5mm ones for brake cables)

Oilers also mean you can squirt WD40/GT85 into the cables every so often to keep your brakes running silky smooth.

My cable has split already, I guess it's quality.
CRC are saying that kit doesn't come with inner cable though?

Also I'm assuming that oiler fits in between cables? I have cable bosses which means the middle section is just exposed wire, so I guess these are no good.

I'm having a shit time with my V brake after flipping my rear wheel. Pretty much have to reset it each time which is a pain in the arse.
Might be because my rear wheel isn't true. Anyone else have this problem? I'm definitely not getting the pull I should.

Also, on behalf of another player, would there be any problems running a calliper on the front and V brake on the back using a 'Rik' style double lever?

  • Caliper brake need a different amount of cable pull to Vbrakes. The only way to mix and match would be to use a travel agent on the vbrake and a shortpull brake lever.

  • wicksie, when i said Inner, I mean the plastic lining for nokons, not the load bearing cable. They're separate.

That's what I said. And that's what a travel agent does... Cheers Em.

This confuses me because I"m not sure what nokons do. Perhaps it's better I don't know then I won't need it.
Might true my wheel before I look to improve my brake.
It's not working as it is though. Sod readjusting everytime I flip.

  • Nokon cabling is made up of lots of little cylinders of metal that fit inside one another, it acts as a more resilient "armoured" outer, is lighter than normal cable, turns around corners sharper and is really expensive.

Pros: Looks nice, seems to hold up to polo abuse more than regular cabling.
Cons: Not the magic cure for cabling by any means... regular cable oiling/servicing just as good.

I wanted to get one of those oiler things, anyone know which width/size fits Nokon cable (Gabes and Em, I'm looking at you)?

I've tried the cheap Nokon copycat stuff too, that was rubbish... as in worse than normal cabling, I kept "crimping" the links in crashes and having loads of friction, etc, avoid.

  • 5mm oilers.

    It is the magic cure.

  • Nokon plus oilers (5mm) plus regular lube = perfect.
Jono, I may have a couple of spares.

    Are you coming over tonight?

  • Hmm, so I just need about 20cm's of the stuff.
I'm still not sure what additional inner cable I need.

Do the oilers connect cables or could I run it on the exposed middle part of the wire?

  • You can run it exposed but you will need to oil the cable more often than normal as there will be more grit getting into the outers.

If it helps I use teflon coated inners.
Nokon from the lever to the front brake, split with an oiler in the first 3 inches.
Nokon from the lever to the toptube, an oiler, a run of normal cable to half way down the seatstay, an oiler, then nokon the for the remaining run to the disk brake.

If that wasn't clear enough. The oilers join 2 bits of outer together. You don't really need them if you're only running short lengths of cable from the lever to the frame stops.

  • 3 oilers but I don't need them as I have frame stops, got it. Cheers Em.

I sort of meant about what part of inner cable that extension kit from CRC doesn't have that I need.

I'm not sure I'm going to run it yet so will do some research as and when.
    It does sound good though.

    Thanks guys.

  • Are you coming over tonight?

    Mitch first?

  • Wrong bike for me dude, was expecting to have to be somewhere else.
Go play polo, if you want to head over later then you can. Failing that, let's do Monday?

  • Not a proper upgrade but some DIY Yonkopads perhaps? Pretty cheap... and I think for each you can get 2 Yonkopad Yancopads-like apparatus?

  • Can anyone sell me pipe on tuesday? I keep forgetting to ask. It's for my boss so fuck cycling around London collecting it.

  • Yonkopads?

  • can anybody do me some bars?

could swap for saddles or buy for cheap

  • what kind o' bars?

  • i think woodrow's sorting me out, but ta

From the man who's played one game at Peckham and has signed up for a tourney!

There's some Saturday polo action mate if you want to have a practice before then.

  • Best stay out of Riks way if i were you buddy :)

  • yo! anyone got a spare 22t sprocket I could exchange for beers or monies?

  • i started out with a standard single speed racing bike with low gearing. But after some collisions which left me with a bended wheel i decided to get me a MTB or something that ll support bigger wheels..

and now i found this bike fairly cheap (125 eur.?) 2nd hand (its a da bomb - grenade)

    Now why I'm in doubt:
-will my saddle hight be high enough.? (could i just put a bigger seatpost in?)
-will my clearence at bottom bracket be to big?
-anyone else ride/rode a fork with a spring? This is assuming it's not lockable..
-does it just look bad-ass/indestructible enough to ignore all these comments (thats
what im going for at the moment..)

    Any thoughts/opinions.?

    thx
