  • ...james. I know you have. 'twasn't some open ended request for HTFU comments.

Eh? It was a simple statement of fact

No insinuation of htfu, though your post smacks of concern.

  • Right. That evening, I would STRONGLY insist riding past Lewes, as its Bonfire Night (Google about Lewes on bonfire Nighht, biggest celebrations in Europe....)

Curiously, bonfire night is not celebrated in most European countries. I can't imagine why not.

  • ^^believe in yourself and you can achieve the impossible. I'll pm you a link to some awesome dianetics stuff that really works for me.

fuckng killjoys arent into celebrating the burning of catholic insurgents? lame.

  • Kristian and I discussed the route on Tuesday but thought we should go through it in more detail once all together on Tues.

Let's meet at The Crown Tavern by Clarkenwell Green? should be fairly central for everyone

no concern for you assured :) just prompted by 'hey brand new (possibly new rider) can i come'

  • ^i think you have a good point in that interested riders should be realistic about their ability to ride 150 mile plus with a little sleep deprivation thrown in too. problems on the road will be compounded by the fact that we'll be in france for most of the miles.

    **but but but
**i dont want to see anyone discouraged. it would be awesome if more people came along for what will surely be a pretty epic ride.
come to the pub on tuesday and talk it through with us if you're not sure. especially Kristian as he's done this ride twice before so can offer a speculation free account of what it's like.

  • We need to speculate on the chaos of us two on the road

Number of wing mirrors destroyed etc etc

  • um, yeah. didnt think of that.
i could do without getting deported back to my country of origin so will have my maximum zen-on for this ride.

  • Tempted...And I have loads of holiday available to take at work...

  • Do it Tom.

  • I'd like to get a feel please :)

    North Beers on Tues?
You can have a feel any time you like ;)

  • Do it Tom.

    Will there be spokecards?

  • No, but maybe spokey dokeys!

  • I'm up for this. I have bags of holiday left so would prefer the return ferry option with a couple of nights in Paris. Anyone else up for that?

  • I might be. Romantic dinner for 2?

  • You buying? I don't put out on a first date. Spooning however is allowed. FYI. :)

  • I was thinking one night in Paris, then ride back to the ferry on Sunday afternoon, giving ourselves plenty of time to have a lunch stop and allow for a p_nct*re or two. Obviously we will have glorious sunshine, and a lovely tail wind. We can dream...

Sounds like we all roll out together, and then head home in dribs and drabs depending on who wants to get back when. Sound good for everyone?

  • If I do it i'll be staying the weekend (maybe bit longer as my aunt lives just outside Paris) then I'l get the euro* home.

  • Shotgun/dibs/bagsy top n tailing with Ben! :)

  • So when are peeps buying ferry tickets then? And who's up for staying in Paris a bit longer? List time?

    matt_ha - eurostar home on the 6th
sophieelithabethr - in paris until sunday
kristian - possibly riding back to London
dancing james - threatening to join :)
wools - wants to stay in Paris for a couple of days and ride back to London town
    benjam - possible ditto
    pifko - possible ditto

  • Am really tempted by this. Haven't done 100+ ride before though.
I managed the ride to brighton without much pain, but i was one of the slower ones there.
How fast paced will this be?

We'll be geared and with the adrenaline I suspect to london-newhaven leg will be quite fast based on previous experience (18-24mph) and once we get to France it may settle down to 16-22mph. Also having met all the riders already they all seem quite fit...

We're planning to be at North drinks tomorrow from 5:30 if people want to chat.
