  • boggle I can only assume they've redone it. It got my vote for shittest pubin London. Carpet was filthy, whole bar area reeked of vomit and there were mice running around the seats.

The vomit observation was made twice, several months apart.

The second time I was there as a mystery shopper and made sure to mention it on the report, so maybe they did something about it.

  • mystery shopper for a pub chain
    where do i apply ?

  • I've got myself a trip to the Purity brewery next month as a thankyou for working with one of their employees.
I'm a big fan of Ubu.

  • Popped in the Lowlander over the weekend, they've got a "Micro Beer Festival" on at the moment, with some good additions to an already excellent beer list. More information here http://www.lowlander.com/pg/micro-beer-festival

    Retail Eyes for 'spoons

Also TNS for Mitchell & Butlers (O'Neills, Nicholsons, etc.)

It won't make you rich, but it gets you out and around town on the bike.

There are others - MSE is a good a place as any to find out about them.

  • Btw Wetherspoons are having a beer festival at the end of oct start nov, with 50 differenct beers, ales and stouts. I'm hoping to try some nice stouts.

I dont really like wetherspoons pubs normally. Massive drinking sheds with 'orrible decor. The only one i like is the shakespear's head near holborn tube.

I noticed a big sign outside the kuntish drovers (my local 'spoons, not that i ever go in there) that all the festival beers are going to be £1.89 per pint :o)

  • After a very disappointing pint of Sussex recently ***(King and Barnes) ***

@Sorethroat, Harvey's that is not kept well tends to have an antiseptic twang to it's taste.

Not Harveys, King and Barnes. I actually really like the Harveys Sussex.

  • Going to the Greenwich Union later to try out Meantime London stout. Hoping they've got it on tap rather than bottle

The Meantime stout was ok, nothing to write home about though. But as a bonus the Union's fridge was packed full of ales and 4 or 5 different stouts. I had one called Sierra Nevada stout brewed in californian which was really nice, nicer than the meantime.

As a double bonus there was a morris dancing festival thingy going on in the street outside the pub! Loads of beards and jingle bells on display (they even had morris wives in tow doing there own little dances), fuelled by frequent trips into the pub by the morrismen. What cracked me up was they all seemed to have there own tankard which they slap on the bar whenever one of em would jingle into the pub for a pint.

  • Anyone had a tipple of this? I don't know how they can actually call it beer at 41% volume.

    YES, FORTY ONE PER CENT.

    :o

  • Brewdog's all novelty stuff.

    +1 for Sierra Nevada.
FWIW, Tesco usually stock this in the World Beers section.

Not im my Tescum, on the Old Kent Rd, they don't :0(

  • Black Dragon cider in The Southampton Arms yesterday.

    Yum.

  • sheffield:
the sheffield tap, fantastic pub in the main train station with beer from the thornbridge brewery plus other guest ales from the u.k and some interesting imported lagers, their bottled beer range is the biggest i have ever seen with beers from all over the world.

Just back from two pints of Thornbridge's Halcyon (Green Hopped). Bloody lovely stuff. Bang goes my afternoon productivity...

  • I'm getting more and more into Belgian beers. Just got back from a little trip to Edingurgh, stubled upon a fantastic german pub called The Brauhaus, photos to follow shortly!

You need to go to the Belgian Monk in Norwich if you're ever up that way. Evenings end early on the 11% Roland Klokke.

  • they are doing thornbridge jaipur in that pub opposite the tapas bar, entrance to bourough market.
(was a busenger so didn't get the boozer's name, cream tiled exterior with Friary Mieux branding)

  • Brewdog's all novelty stuff.

bzzt wrong, they have some very nice ales and lagers as well as the silly stuff

I've tried tactical nuclear penguin... wont be buying it again

MrSmyth - thornbridge jaipur is the business.. infact Thornbridges output requires more tastings

I'm off to Wallington Beer festival tomorrow, should be ummm interesting

Not cream tiled but it's near the Tapas place.. Southwark Tavern?

  • that's the one
it was dark cream coloured in daylight :-)

  • Had some of this brewer's finest last night in the Montpelier in Peckham. it's called 'London Particular' - absolutely lovely stuff, tried one pint and went back for three more. Nuff said.

  • Popped into the kentish drovers (I know, I know) to try out some of the 'spoons beer festival. I have a pint of double expresso stout. It was probably the most disgusting stout i've tried to date. It tasted like cold, bad coffee and it was flat too. Couldn't finish the pint

  • Kentish Drovers of Peckham fame?

There are tons of better pubs around to sample good ales.

  • Kentish Drovers of Peckham fame?

Indeedy. I was on my way hope from my chriropractor via the library and the big sign saying £1.89 per festival pint lured me in

  • Many have fallen foul of the Wetherspoon's 'beer festival' advertisement.

  • I thought it was a cider festival. No wonder you went wrong.

Other than the obvious 'drinking in a 'spoons' mistake.
