  • Both beer and cider festival

  • Wetherspoons Beer Fetival for the win. I had a bloody lovely pint of Double Espresso, an oat stout with coffee. So tasty and smooth. Though an aquired taste. People I was with hated it. Also the Once Bittern was very nice too.

  • just opened the thornbridge russian stout.
lovely stuff, not dissimilar to westmalle double. dunno if you can get it in bottles down here though

  • Aldi are doing loads of gift packs of ale at the moment. I just picked one up which has 2 bottles of Bishops Finger and a nice glass for about £4.

    Not bad.

  • a pint of crouch vale brewers gold last night. why haven't i tasted this before? a camra winner a few years ago and one of the best pints ever. i guess more of a summer beer as it has masses of elderflower flavours. another favorite to add to the list.

available in a few london pubs listed here (had mine in the peasant st john st)

  • I've had that at The Scolt head in De Beauvoir a few times. Sometimes it's absolutely fantastic, some times a bit so so. When it's good though, it's fantastic

They also have Truman's Runner, again it differs from time to time, but when it's good it's amongst the best i've had

I was talking to someone at my swimming club about this place last night. Great pub. Must get over there more.

Had a couple of rather tasty Young's London Golds in the Trinity in Brixton on Wednesday. I'm usually fairly indifferent to Young's but this was rather good.

Also was back in my home town of Hertford recently and thought it rude not to give the McMullens a try (having only got into ale since living in London). I'm a fan of pungent hoppy beers so it was right up my street. Not bad at all.

  • can anyone recommend any good beers that are close to or sub 3%? It's a common strength in sweden, good for everyday drinking and i kinda miss it over here.

tried something called 'biere des flanders' from sainsborgs, it's not great

  • search out 'mild ale' and 'ruby mild', kboy

  • Anyone got any suggestions for a cracking real ale pub in central london? I have a colleague coming over who wants to drink some loverly beers. Cheers!

  • Look good, thanks! He's here over the weekend, so anything around central would be great. Unfortunately I'm not going to be here, so I'm trying to send him suggestions.

  • oh, those are both closed at the weekend i think

  • what about Market Porter, borough maarket?

  • Morrisons seem to have a Chocolate & Vanilla Stout. Just bought a bottle and by 'eck it's basically a beery dessert.

  • there's that new one in pimlico. hideous 80's building but the beer selection is top notch
i like the peasant cos it does brewers gold but they only have 4 guest beers.

  • As a general observation, I have to applaud the recent spread of Doombar. I know nothing about why it's happened, but a) I've never had a bad pint of it, and b) its presence has saved me from several nights on the disco piss in recent times. All hail the ale.

  • +1 to that, has been at Souths for a while but noticed it up here in Suffolk a little while back

  • Don't know if anyone has heard of or been to the Marble pub in Manchester but they are also a micro brewery. Got a chocolate Beer from there, essentially a thicker Dark and Mild but by god it's good. Recommend.

  • i went a month or so ago and i too purchased a bottle that i imbibed 2 days ago.
did you buy the bottle down here?

I was thinking this the other day as well. Great stuff.

Any idea what the Pimlico one's called or what street it's on? I don't know the area at all. Cheers

  • doing some ocado shopping and stocking up on beer, anyone got any recent recommendations?

  • Tinners and Tribute, two of the best Cornish ales. Would have previously put Doom Bar up there but I swear they have changed the recipe because I remember it used to be light and hoppy, whereas now it tastes quite rich and heavy.
