Depends how highly you value their opinion.

If my parents said it to me, then 'meh' would be the answer.

I got taken home in a police car - just tte once. Its all they had to say to me. There was no grounding or yelling, or anything else. They just left me bearing the weight of their disappointment.

Its completely the wrong direction to take this topic, because it inevitably makes it about race..........

I don't remember who made this about race, But if my highlighting my experiences in the Caribbean or Africa was taken to be about race, then that's a shame. My grandad was white, of Scottish and French descent.

I only made comment about places I have some familiarity with. The colour of the people made no difference I think. The mindset regarding discipline is universal across social stratas there.

I think percentages and statistics can be misleading in crime comparisons. A total figure of three murders is small......especially when compared to neighbour countries/islands. It is high in percentage terms, but we're still talking about a total number of three.

Digging up good quality research is hard work. So Im not doing it. But there seems to be heaps of stuff suggesting that the cells in the foreskin are particularly prone to infections, and also minor tears in which those infections can enter.

I have never heard of anyone having impaired nob function because a little skin was removed. I certainly do not miss mine.

The appearance thing is a matter of preference of course, typical folklore suggests most people like the chopped sort better.

I had mine done when I was pretty old and it wasnt too bad in terms of pain. It wouldve been loads better if it had been done when I was a baby though, when you cant even remember it.

my mum used to say 'i won't hurt my hand on you' picked up a slipper and chased me and my sisters around the house with a loud voice. don't think she ever caught us before wemanaged to close the bedroom door. don't think she ever tried to. for an upgrade in desperate times she'd go into the kitchen and get a wooden spoon.

Coincidentally, it was when I finally snapped and punched my dad right back (I was 15), that my mum must've put her foot down and demanded that he stopped lashing out.

I'm not glorifying the event - it was fucking horrible.

And like you say, it was the emotional and psychological maltreatment that fucked me up for years thereafter. Similarly to NurseHolliday's experiences, I was a 'high achiever' who was constantly made to feel invalidated… by a pair of emotional invalids, who probably ended up that way due to their own upbringings.

It's the cycle of neverdidmeanyharm.

When I did teacher training (English as foreign language), the only negative feedback from classroom practice was that I didn't give enough praise. It was a real eye-opener for me. I made an effort to change, it felt weird at first, but then became a more habitual behaviour, and everyone benefitted.

I still need to work at praising the good rather than criticising the bad when it comes to my relationship with my nearly 4-year-old son :/

I think my dad only gave up hitting me when he realised I'd got to the age where I could most probably hit him back and knock him out.

My mum kept going with the verbal abuse for at least another year until a very strained family holiday when I responded to her torrent by calling her the bastard child of a sister fucker.

There's no way I'm going to hit my child, I remember how much I hated it and I'm definitely not one to say that I 'turned out alright'.

How on earth did we get to circumcision? There are plenty of men who regret the fact that they were circumcised and complain of loss of sensitivity and I couldn't justify doing it on health grounds as I believe that the information fed to people is grossly exaggerated(mostly originating from the states)

Have you ever seen a baby be circumcised? No active nerves my arse. Thats why they have to tie down their little arms and legs to a board to do the procedure, and why they scream blue murder.

That is just a whole different topic from punishment though.............it would be quite a severe penalty
