Confess about your geared ride

  • better picture, cleaned up the chrome this weekend.

  • I've a mysterious Rider branded Columbus SLX frame with Veloce and a Principia with Rival. And an cheap Chinese alloy frame laced with Tiagra (Sora brifters).

The steel frame offers a nicer ride, but the Principia is 8 kilos of speed. I like it a lot, even though with the different components and stickers and colours, the end result is not a pretty bike.

  • @pistanator: did you get that groupset from tel?

  • I've got this:

... although it is presently sporting a red Arione and cheeky matching bar-tape. It looks like PVC, sort of thing people who lead erotic lifestyles wear.

  • ... and I also have this GT Edge Ti.

I had to get the frame bead blasted as the previous owner had painted the fucker and it was all pitted. On my way home my Alfa caught fire on the motorway, I had to bravely run away from it whilst calling the emergency services.

  • I don't wear tops with pockets in, far easier in a saddle pack

    Shellsuit?

Really like this. Nice touch with the spacers. Is that a medium Cooper?

It most certainly is a medium Cooper, and thank you for noticing my spacers - they're Chris King world championship ones.

I've also got a 90's steel Kona in rasta colours and I've just procured a Salsa La Raza.

  • I'm off to seek forgiveness from hippy now for using a Contintental product (their tyres still suck).

I've used Conti tubes. No complaints*.

*other than the general "fuck you" to Conti for making shit tyres.

    coolest bike ever, fact

  • I want the stem. FACT.

  • On my way home my Alfa caught fire on the motorway...

I definitely feel for you. After a Fiat, an Alfa and a Maserati, I've learned my lesson when it comes to Italian sports cars. When they run right, the world could not be better. When something goes wrong (weekly), the bills go up in multiples of $1k

  • Bike looks nice Graham. My new roadbike has the same groupset, all 600 tricolor except brakes, levers and cranks which are 105. Works well.

so basically the brake levers and mechs are the same?

i would say that is more 105 than 600

  • well, the cassette, rear and front mechs are 600 (assuming that's what Maxy mean), so you could call it a 600 groupset beside the crankset and brakes.

  • you missed levers. and if i recall correctly he has DT shifters

  • I want the stem. FACT.

Would you believe I have three of them?

Could be persuaded to maybe part with a 120mm Syncros Altura, seventeen degree neg rise. I bought the bastard new-old-stock from a mister in Belgium using the interweb.

Thank you for the kind words. It was only a 145 Cloverleaf but it was immaculate. The first indication it ever gave of any mechanical problems was when the engine started making a worrying noise, the speedo stopped working, the rev counter went bezerk and then the engine quit. Followed by flames from under the bonnet.

My previous 145 Cloverleaf needed a new timing belt. Simple job? £550 to you, sir. Failed its MOT ten months later with three pages of faults. Advisory said what with its fucked suspension, front wheels at a jaunty angle, seriously corroded chassis, unresponsive rear brakes and lethal exhaust emissions, it probably wasn't safe to drive.

Hubs, mechs, DT shifters are 600. Brakes, levers & cranks are 105.

Dunno. It'll be full DA 7400 eventually.

    Nice. I need a 100mm, though.

  • @pistanator: did you get that groupset from tel?

    No, already on the bike

  • Did dovvles post his bianchi?

I don't even have a photo of it. I'm very lazy.

  • Got this off Rih today, pretty heavy but a nice ride. Few little things to change too.

  • Tyres and tape would be first on my changelist

  • Hmm, what colour you thinking? Will be changing the brake levers too.

  • There is only one colour of bar tape and tires.

    BLACK
