  • ^^ True ^^

  • pass comment on how your frame is obviously too big for you or not set up correctly AT ALL

    fixed

  • I'm not going to be a hater and pass comment on how your frame is obviously too small for you or not set up correctly AT ALL, nor will I mention the fact that you have no foot retention on your bike which, regardless of argumentative types attempting to say otherwise, is a fail...

I will however draw your attention to the world champ stripe decals that were originally on your frame and implore you to restore them to the frame, they look awesome!! Also the fork would look a lot nicer chromed or painted to match the frame...

I'm going to go with not set up correctly, I should have stated I am a total newbie when it comes to this style of bike (bikes in general). I will look into it, cheers for highlighting it. I know the pedals wont be to everyones taste, as for the brake no comment. I would have liked to put the stripes back on but they are pretty messed up and unless i could get some new ones from somewhere. I am still undecided about the bars, I wanted either a camel colour (like they are) or polished. I will probably change them shortly but for now they can stay.

  • good first effort though, are they MA2's?

  • It must not be set up right. no one has that short of legs and that long arms.
He said its set up as a SS so foot retention is not as crucial as fixed but the solo back brake is. if you were going to have only one brake put it on the front not the back.

chrome the fork and get some decals.

  • I don't think its to bad. Way better than my first FGSS bike, Though mine was set up correctly but its all trial and error.

    And what about my bike?

I know its a big bmx but what do people think?

Polished fork, another brake, decals back on (You could get some made up quite easily) and some classic pedal/ cage. strap combo and it'd be quite nice... Oh and for the love of bottoms the world over please put that saddle in the bin, it's magnificently ugly!

  • good first effort though, are they MA2's?

Thankyou, I'm not sure what MA2's are sorry :s I'm completely new to singlespeeds. This is literally my first bike since I was like 10 i think.

Without sounding too much like a complete retard could you help me out with getting it setup right?

    cheers

Please don't remind me about the saddle, it is hideous! It was free and its just so its rideable, that definitely will not be staying.

I think this is much what the forum is for, so you're lucky

  • Decided I'm a shite bmxer so...

    Project gravity bike is go.

As a first very rough approximation, put a pedal close to the bottom of it's rotation with the crank in line with the seat tube. Sit on the saddle and place the instep of your foot on the pedal, with the ankle at a normal standing angle, i.e. your toes will point uphill slightly since your whole leg is rotated backwards about 17 degrees. If your leg is bent, put the saddle up. Repeat until you get the seat height to the point where your leg is straight but not stretched or your pelvis rocked over to reach the pedal. Now put your foot on the pedal with the crank horizontal and forward, and the ball of the foot over the pedal spindle. If your knee cap is in front of the peal spindle, move your arse back until it's directly over it, and then move the saddle so that you can sit comfortably in this position. Obviously, move forward if your knee is initially behind the pedal spindle. This is called KOPS (Knee over pedal spindle), and is a start, although there is argument over fine tuning. Note that moving the saddle backwards tends to effectively raise it and vice versa, so go back and check the saddle height again after setting the fore/aft adjustment. You now have the key arrangement of hips, knees and feet in place to pedal properly. Bar height and reach setting depends so much on your morphology, fitness and riding style that it's pointless getting into it here - if you post pictures of yourself on the bike on any internet forum asking for positional advice, approximately 50% of respondents will tell you to raise the bars and/or shorten the reach, and the remainder will tell your the exact opposite.

  • morobecane tandem to amuse me and the missus (not josh there on the back) this winter

anyone got a pair of matching brooks (colour)?

I never ever want to ride that close to your sweaty crack again. I feel sorry for yer good lady wife Tom

  • Yup, leftovers from when I had my Enfield in cafe racer trim.

    you might want some brakes!

  • What do we reckon?

Should have gone to spec savers.

  • My current project. Specialized Roubaix Comp. Needs to be stripped and rebuilt for an old boy that wants it for riding around Yorkshire Dales. So sit up and beg riding position to ease stress on neck and shoulders, triple gears with a tiny 24t front x 28t rear is the smallest I think I can go oh and all change to Campag Ergo set up. Not an easy project or cheap but a great learning curve for this retro head, Had to check google onhow to set up an aheadset! hahaha

30 front and 29 rear for Campag, unless you want to make life very difficult for yourself.

Oi! Leave me missus' goggles out of this! Gestapo in Technicolor innit!

if you can understand mdcc then go that way, if not, just raise the saddle to the point where when you sit on it, your feet touch the ground on tip-toes and with your feet flat they connect solidly with the pedal at the bottom of it's rotation (this isn't how you should pedal, it's just a rough measurement).

From an aesthetic point of view (though some would argue whether or not I'm qualified to give advice) I'd suggest with that colour scheme a gum walled tyre like http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Panaracer_Pasela_TG_City_Tyre/5110000290/ a silver chain (lots of them around, depending on your ring width), silver pedals rather than white, you know about the saddle... And move the brake to the front, you don't want only a rear brake on a fixed, it's not legal and is dangerous if you're not experienced. Have fun

  • 30 front and 29 rear for Campag, unless you want to make life very difficult for yourself.

Its a 9 speed set up the largest I can find is 28t for the rear. Gotta sacrifice the Campag triple chainset for an old style triple so I can get that little chainwheel. What kind of problems do you envisage?

  • you might want some brakes!

That being the only reason I haven't been out testing yet.

  • That being the only reason I haven't been out testing yet.

    Dont be a flea.

When we made a gravity bike it had no brakes. to make it lighter and more earo dynamic...

  • What kind of problems do you envisage?

Finding a front dérailleur that shifts properly with Ergo levers and what will be effectively an MTB chainset. Basically, you need to stick to the Campag Triple FD, which imposes limits on the total difference between the granny and the big ring and also to a lesser extent on the minimum size of big ring, since straying too far outside the design parameters leads to poor shifting performance. Also, the shifting will be compromised if you use a chainset with either different ring spacing or a different chainline from the Campag Triple. Some incredibly unlikely combination can be made to work, kind of, but the standard, integrated, groupset approach is easier to set up, easier to maintain and nicer to use. I wouldn't sacrifice all that just for the sake of not much more than 10% lower bottom gear.
