I suggested flat bars early on but he'd fairly recently converted to drops and loves 'em so drops it is, thanks for the suggestion though.
mdcc thanks for the heads up. Of course you are right but for the sake of customer service I will give it a go. His current low gear is 26(front) x 34(rear).

if you can understand mdcc then go that way, if not, just raise the saddle to the point where when you sit on it, your feet touch the ground on tip-toes
I would try and understand mdcc as his advice is spot on and simple (just looks a bit wordy)
Saddle height has nothing to do with tip toes on the ground, that is totally irrelevant so ignore that advice if you are after the perfect riding position.

As a matter of interest, why the Campag choice? Getting a wide range is much easier with Shimano, since you can just stick 9s MTB kit at the back and it works with 9s road STIs
-
• #34230
Campag is his preference....
-
• #34231
It must not be set up right. no one has that short of legs and that long arms.
Decided I'm a shite bmxer so...
Project gravity bike is go.
Cooool! Makes me wish there was something like a mountain, a hill or even perhaps a mildly sloping stretch of road near where Iive. But there isn't.

Ed will be along shortly to tell you that your bike is too big.
In this instance, he will be correct.
Why am I on this forum? Andy's already doing the work for me.
ta ra!

Hopefully it'll all go smoother, but if you end up completely stuck and looking for any kind of way out, 10 speed Campag shifters have exactly the right cable pull to work a Shimano rear mech / 8 speed cassette.

I think part of being a good mechanic/bike builder is telling people to stop being stupid and get the right parts for the Job.
Tell him to sod the Campag if he wants a bike that actually does what he wants

• #34235
still current and a project. new stem and bar tape. next step: seatpost and pedals.
-
• #34236
^ looks great! IMhumbleO if you replaced the stem with the one with matching angle to the bar, it would make it instant-porn :)) but i guess bar/stem/saddle are much of a personal preference
again, looks great! -
• #34237
i prefer a track stem on a track bike
-
• #34238
Just finished an hour ago, took me a while but I'm really happy it's done now! I will change the flite for a concor once I find some black suede to re-cover it with

• #34239
That Eddy Merckx-style Diamant is super nice, nice one mate!
-
• #34240
It's actually a Diamant style Diamant.
But Ed, it's a "conversion" which means he'll get serious injuries immediately according to forum experts
-
• #34241
oh shit, a road bike on the road, I might do myself some permanent damage here
thanks ed - yeah the paint job is lovely, it's very fragile though. It flakes off like puff pastry, I think I will lacquer it
-
• #34242
Love the colour scheme of that Diamant, bars look cool too what are they P_P?
-
• #34243
ha, funnily enough the bars are stock Fuji track bars
-
• #34244
Pretty comfy the Fuji stock bars...
-
• #34245
I might have to get myself a set they look like they'd be comfy on the drops for me.
-
• #34246
on the top, they've got a nice angled bit instead of a curve, with fizik tape they are very light and comfortable
-
• #34247
It's actually a Diamant style Diamant.
The paint job you pillock;

But that is only if the rider uses short crank arms with a high gearing and spins at a 'slow' 90-100 rpm remember. Poor NHS.

• #34249
Did Diamant ever supply bikes to the Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile) team?
-
• #34250
The paint job you pillock;
I'm colour blind you tosser
What about flat bars and a complete SLX or XT MTB drivetrain?
