Modulation...

As in slowing you down gradually without locking the wheels?

I snapped a sprocket on my Campagnolo Record 10 speed cassette, mine was also the 15t
I just bought a new one, but felt a bit gutted, i am only 10 stone and cant open a jar of pickle without the wife helping so can only think the 15t sprocket is made of cheese (prob Edam)

i also have ceramic rims and appropriate pads
even better in the wet
why would i want steel rims with an unmachined surface?

Brakes make are even more important to me than the shifting to me, Shimano/Sram calipers + Swiss Stop pads FTW!

The only thing I don't like about 105 is the feel of the front downshift. Ker-klunk (if I'm lucky - sometimes the shifter doesn't "catch" and I have to sweep the lever a few times to pick it up as well). Don't tell me how perfectly DA handles that, I'm skint.

umm you wouldn't. Ceramic vs steel? - that's a pretty extreme eg, isn't it? and a long way from my point*.

Probably a fair comment, but I was actually just checking my understanding of what ppl mean when they say modulation. I thought it meant better control of you're braking as you braked... basically stopping you from locking up if you brake hard?
cut 'n pastes to the ask any question thread
*that just because something has been superseded doesn't automatically = shit and that the vast majority of ppl don't need the level of kit they have/want, it's just it makes them feel good, which is fine (as is enjoying outdated kit).

This is the best looking chainset
Looks like the inside of some Croydon boy's hot hatch. Fail.

maybe Ed can settle this?
he knows about these things. -

Also amazing
Porn worthy...
Moving on:
I can understand the nostalgia and the desire for the "look" but brakes are a massive example of why progress is good.

I
smallfury - what points the shifter pic meant to illlistrate?I was trying to make a point about the ugliness of shimano shifters compared to campagnolo. But got bored before typing a comment. Sorry.
I did'nt post a SRAM cuz I seem to be asthetically blind to them (I have the same problem with wallpaper).
i also have ceramic rims and appropriate pads
even better in the wetI'm going for Carbon braking surfaces and yellow swiss-stops. Its a good job I dont live anywhere hilly.......

Modulation is as much about the hand (and pad compound) as the caliper. Adjust technique as necessary, if you have the fine motor skills.

I'd quite like these...
Brakes?
Now this is one part I'm really dubious of. I've never used the latest or greatest, but the 105 on my fixed works fine. My mates budget tecktros work fine.
If they're modern calipers with half decent pads, I find it hard to believe any more is necessary. As long as they stop me in time, that's all I need.
