  • are other forums there? do they send "representative samples of their population"?

what would be the benefit to the cycling world of getting to see what LFGSS is about?

"well, er. it's a place where we hang out at work, not doing any work, and post about stuff. it generally then collapses in a seething froth of pie, crumble, puns, no you're a cunt, flounces and merges. then we all remember what it is unites us. our hatred of nodders. occasionally there's some bike riding"

  • bear in mind there will the thousands of people there everyday - once word of cakes gets round, all hell could break loose. You'll need to bake a LOT of cakes.

  • The stand should definitely be next to the create stand.

    That would be special.

  • awesome idea

  • The stand should definitely be next to the swagger bikes stand.

    That would be special.

  • We needs pictures of us like Will's posters, Bright Times® images, cos anyone stumbling into some the threads around here will never come back. In fact many I've met wont.

  • Would be nice (pending Will's permission) to have the images from this:

on the walls. Again it would show we all not just a bunch of avatars.

Also maybe some sort of poster/flyer that lists all the events/rides/drinks which could be handed out. I think this is only forum that reguarly organises social rides and events rather than purely opportunities to train. High-lighting the social/community aspect of the forum is the most important thing for me.

Interaction, i.e competitions (track stand, Roller-racing?, fixing a puncture races?) and other general fun stuff would make the stand memorable.

  • The most popular threads on the forum for spoke cards would be:
    1) What to do in the case of an accident?
    2) Locks that work
    3) OTP List

#3 could never fit on a spoke card... but #1 and #2 could be done as a back-to-back spoke card with accident info on one-side as a checklist, and the reverse being the top 3 locks we recommend and how to lock your bike.

"What to do in case of an accident" is an absolutely brilliant thread. In my opinion this should be given out to all passers-by to the stall. Spoke-cards mean something to the fgss fraternity, but not as much to the average Jo. Indeed, some cyclists may be adverse to even slightly changing the look of their bikes.

Would the Locks That Work thread need to be altered at all? I envision OnGuard may not wish that the anecdotal references to their lack of key combinations, be handed out in printed form. I'll try to talk to them today, and based on their feedback, will amend the info in the list. I think that would be the only the objection. Also, would it not be possible to get a major lock retailer to sponsor the spoke-card/leaflet, ie. tiny logo on the back? This would cover the design and printing costs. Just an idea. I don't feel you should lose out financially in this venture. The main theme of the thread is the size of locks to use, and I think that's going to be as popular in print, as it is on the net.

The OTP thread is rather uncontroversial, so should be ok. It will wind up BikeRadar/CyclePlus, as so many of their readers land here when searching for fgss, by links from their own forums. Maybe just a web address link, and a brief translation of what OTP means, and what the list contains? I also think you could sell logo space on the back, to different retailers of OTPs. Honestly, I believe this could a quite competitive area. EVANS especially, would not want to share logo space with anyone, and would possibly pay more for exclusive logo space, even if it is small. They'd only need to look at the hits and linkbacks, to realise the benefits.

I'll help as required. I will accept payment in Snickers Ice-cream bars. Thanks.

  • This all doesn't meet your criteria above, but when I tell people I ride fixed they all ask me how hard it is to do. I'm bad with visualising how much space you've got to play with, but I'd happily lend you my rollers to sit in the corner, and if we had a bike with a reasonably adjustable set-up, plus the obligatory hand-rail to support people, you could actually give people a feel for riding fixed?
If you want to tie it into aspects of the forum why not try to find a bike that has been pretty much cobbled together very cheaply from the classifieds section, to demonstrate the accessibility of riding fixed (no expensive group-sets, easy maintenance), and promote the advice you can get (amidst the flaming) with regards to foot-retention etc?

Just my 2p. Re-reading this, I recognise I am showing my age here. Perhaps we should just have a bar?

  • Actually, that is a solid recommendation AlBert.

Would there be enough space for a Rollapalooza setup?

  • ^^^I call norvener

1/2 chips 1/2rice = quote from a film called twin town (i think) it was welsh!

  • OK just my 5cents here...

    how about

    a) some actual rear wheels, cogs...to purchase
(so that anyone with an older racer can bung on..?)

    b) some video showing of skids... so the cool kids can say "wow"
    and then go to a)

    c) a wheel building demo (arup seems like a lovely chap if he is around..?)

    d) Rolla type lil event, do we know anyone who does roller events..? hmmn

    e) some shit old bikes on the wall stage by stage... being built.

    f) couple of old frames... half and half half shit and half Powder-coated by someone we know and love..?

    g) def t-shits and t-shirts, hats to flog.

    h) use stall to promote an event-race skid comp or ride or..? (------wise people insert ideas----)

    just my brain ticking innit....
