  • right. bumping this.
    remember helmets etc.

how many of there are us going??
    3?
    i thought there were more?
    have we had defections?

  • I'm in! Not on the list because I'm thinking I want to take an earlier train - I think Nick mentioned the 7:27 somewhere, which, although grimly early sounds sensible enough.

  • .....^^anyway.....

regarding this instead, I redraw the map on bikemap for compare with the SSTC rides, and actually doesn't looks so bad in terms of elevation, considering 70miles in surrey.

  • good work marco.

    famous last words
    it doesn't look so bad
    end of famous last words

  • Are you both mad? It looks fucking awful! And there's only a handful of people riding and virtually no girls.

I'm gonna be last of everyone.

    Then I'll do crying...!

sound of fragile self esteem snapping in two

  • Loving the relentless drive to lower expectations in this thread! It's going to be great :-)

  • exactly.

  • I'm in too. Definitely up for the early train (British Rail that is, rather than trying to keep up with the quicks. Will be getting on 7:31 at Vauxhall (which I guess is 7:27 at Waterloo). Met a couple of you Thursday - damo, tom, jamie, Friday. Will be on the black and red Ribble. Green Whisky Society jersey.

    1. damo
    2. marcom
    3. yemble
    4. Dumps

Anyone know what it's like in terms of leaving gear at the sports centre?

  • It really isn't that bad. There's a climb out of Leatherhead, then another drag towards Polesden Lacey, then the climb of Box Hill, then it's predominantly flat until the sting in the tail of Leith Hill followed by Whitedown (aka The Widowmaker). There are a few little bumps in between but nothing to make you weep.

  • 6pt - Rolla crew are getting the 7 27 from Waterloo - SW london types (me) are joining at Raynes Park at 7 50-something. Arrives Leatherhead 8 15 ish

I am busy concocting excuses ready for tomorrow's no-show...

  • Dirty disco slippers?

  • That's not a euphemism btw (at least as far as I'm aware).

  • I'll gladly use it as one, though - did make me do a bit of a kenneth williams snigger!

  • Dirty disco slippers...oh yes...tempted to change my forum name!

  • I'd love to be doing this but I'm working again......grrrr. Hope the weather clears up for you guys tomorrow!

  • Anyone know what it's like in terms of leaving gear at the sports centre?

I have emailed asking same thing. Just somewhere to dump my soigneur's massage table and warm up rollers. ;)

In the real world just cleaned torqued lubed pumped bike and will be on 7.27 too.

i'd like to say "this". but. you know. eggs. chickens. etc.

  • though i am worried that i'm not giving myself enough time to finish.

  • I reckon the Surrey 5 hills TNRC ride is tougher in terms of climbing.

  • I am fitting second bottle cage and redoing my bar tape to match aforementioned disco slippers

  • If there's weather tomorrow I'm most definitely out

  • The 5 hills route that i did with dommyracer dov and jaygee was 35 miles 1.9% average climbing and this is 60-ish with 1.6% so easier but longer?

  • ^^I'm not at all fussed about a wet run, either; though it looks like we're on for a fair weather day.

  • Err, so not, in fact, easier then?

    110k = 68.35 miles; 60-big-ish

  • And fitting the bottle cage is playing havoc with my manicure
