that looks nice -

My new bike... a just-finished rather than a current project, and not fixed or singlespeed, but it has an eccentric bottom bracket
Oooh, now that is nice... I've yet to see a dodgy looking Singular

• #32579
Loving that Singular.Even thought about selling my Nag frame to help fund an off road project like that.

...These will get the UltraTorque Pista treatment...
hang on, are you dremelling these as well? take it easy in there! :)
-
• #32581
Getting there... more like 80% finished
It's my first build after one beater getting stolen and the other one gone for sale.
Just waiting for brake lever, toe straps, bell.. like small bits.
Would it be better to take it to the bike shop to finish rest of them as I absolutely have no idea about chain line spacing etc? -

Nah, do it yourself, fuck it up, scream at the bike, drink some beer, go to sleep and then take it to the bike shop in the morning.
much better.

No, the Dremel was just for the prototype. The second set (for my track bike) got strapped down to a milling machine and done properly, as will these, which will be my third set. I'm only puppy-killing Mirage and Veloce, not anything nice ;-)

I think I've done most of what you've said there beside 'go to sleep' bit.
Tried several time to fit my rear wheel, no matter how hard I try rear wheel is still wobbly! don't know why... hmm
Hopefully another can of beer will sort this out -

Picked up from the post office today, some of the last Veloce UltraTorque cranks, on a nice big discount even though I (and presumably Campagnolo) think the PowerTorque system being introduced for MY2011 on mid-range groupsets is inferior. These will get the UltraTorque Pista treatment, hence the TA Piste ring, and are going on my Hirame
that hirame is a great build, and looking good too.

Whats up with some of these horrible MTB's (see top of page)is it a 29errrrrrrllllllgggaaaaaagggghhh? (if its not it's hella ugly!), the cotics alright though. I don't care if they've got gears or are singlespeed, all these lesiure mtb's/ curly ti / 29ers can piss off. MTB's are for thrashing!!! Oh and if you've got your seat set as high tricitybendix your spending way to much time in the saddle instead of snaking down some single track or boosting some bumps, word!

I'm still saying - those bars/rigid forks/seat angle\height
not surprised you fell off it.

It's called XC, it's what people do off road if they were brought up on road bikes. All that jumpy up and down stuff is for people who think it's appropriate for grown-ups to ride children's bikes.

It is appropriate to jumpy up and down stuff whatever your age.... you should see my dad, he's gettin on for 60 and can still hold his own hopping logs. (Not in a trials sense)
Do you not jump around when you ride XC?
What's the point of a frame that size if he's not going to be jumpy up/down/off/over things?
(Holding breath waiting for response)

I was just making a general pisstake of people who think there's only one kind of MTB and one way to ride them. Oh, and you don't need your saddle down by your ankles to get big air...

Apologies for shitty phone pic this evening...
My missus' Bomber Pro, got a few bits today to get her riding until we get a chance to order in a load of shiny sexy bits, poor selection of good qualitty track components here in Dublin, no chance of Nitto or anything like it but they'll mostly be swapped out in the near future...
Front wheel off my Koga-Miyata and rear Ha'Bo disc are only there so she could sit on and see how it was (Very excited, bless) 36h Mavic Open Pro x Shimano Dura-Ace lo-flange will be here next week, radial front, 3x rear...
Picked up an SR Custom stem from Rothar here in Dublin for €8, bargain! 100mm is a bit too long for her though so it'll be swapped out for a Nitto Pearl, 80/90mm...
Crankset is vintage Campagnolo Strada, 170mm, but we'll eventually change that for Shimano Dura-Ace 165mm...
Handlebar is just a cheap, almost straight bar, bit of a curve on it, fine to get going with for now but she wants Nitto B123AA later...
Seatpost was only €15, no name post... Had planned to swap to a Nitto Jaguar but the cheap one is actually fine, not too heavy and looks quite nice I reckon...
Just threw my Brooks on to give her something to sit on, the post is too low before anyone points it out, seatpost bolt seems to be stripped so I'll have to get another one... Probably going to get her a Kashimax saddle, narrow Asian bottom and finds all my saddles excruciating...
Just need some toe-straps, chain, keirin brake and some sort of bmx brake lever and saddle and we're ready for action, it's going to get a lot nicer but for now it's almost rideable which is a start...
Strangely she's never really learnt to ride a bike so the whole thing, bike and rider is a current project, once she's got the whole thing under control the frame will be powdercoated pink and re-decalled, building bikes really is fun isn't it...

it's a little worrying to have a fixed wheel bicycle for someone who never really learnt to ride a bicycle!

well, if she's never ridden a freewheel won't know any different? imagine that...
or is a freewheel going on? gonna be a sweeet first bike anywhichways.

I heard gears were the new thing so I picked up this from Vaidas - thanks Ashe for the tip off.
A customer sold it to to him and it's all original - down to the pump, Dunlop tyres and the Brookes B-72 (which is dryer than a saharan teetotaler, but in good nick aside from this - I'm about to nip out to buy some proofide).
Seems to be early 60s as the B-72 wasn't fitted until 61 onwards according to Sheldon, but the dates on the paperwork are 53 and some other things from Sheldon's chart don't quite stack up, so when I've given it a wash I'll have a look at the rear hub for a date code.
I think a lot of elbow grease will be needed but it should shine up lovely.
You're very welcome mate. I knew Vaidas was on to a winner with that bike. My guess about the saddle, is that its the second saddle on that bike. The bike I'm pretty sure tallies up with the paperwork, so is from 1953, but the later saddle could just have been a replacement due to wear-and-tear.
I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job on the restoration to its former glory. Some cork grips, or leather handlebar tape, would be an improvement over the rubber grips; Oh yes, and some gumwall tyres, or new black ones would sort you out. I didn't check if the gearing was still ok. After so long, it might need some TLC also. Still, great buy though.

Not long ago finished my porter bike. Love it, but it's a heavy somebitch!
This is the nicest nostalgic build I've seen on this forum, since Ed built up Trip's lady-bike.

You shouldn't jump around much when doing XC, the aim is to cover the ground as quickly as possible and time in the air is time lost and it is not as though you will finds sets of doubles on a xc route/course.
The small frame size just allows more maneuverability as you can get your knees over it and generally lean it around more at slow speeds.
I recon it's a Basso
