  • i am going for 4 days on sunday. will print the thread at work! thanks

  • planning on doing some touring over the summer with a four-day stay in berlin towards the end of july.

can anyone recommend any bike friendly hostels in the city? ideally we'd like to be in kreuzberg near Schlesisches Tor.

my absolute favourite part of the city too. i don't think i've ever seen an establishment in berlin that isn't bike friendly.

i've never stayed here but lots of friends have. they all thought it was the business, well cheap (i'd advise renting an apartment on craigslist - but some people like their hotels and hostels and the like) and is exactly where you want to be.

  • @alritelad. i think you've got a point there that most places are bike friendly. all about ringing them i guess.

  • i am staying in Friedrichshain any tips for round there?

  • @jv check out boxhagener platz for cool restaurants/bars and also the hops and barley micro brewery on wuhlischstrasse. if i remember anything else i'll post it here.

  • cheers blue eddy

  • I am going to M. Vuong in 20 minutes. Win.

    Very jealous.

i think boxenhager platz is a little over rated and over priced (no offence!) depending on what you're after, there's a strip of clubs/open air spots along revaler strasse. you should definitely go for a swim in weissen see. it's just up the road and a great laugh. volkspark freidrichshain is deadly also.

the berlin unlike website is worth a check for restaurants and the like. we didn't do much restauranting when we were there as we were destitute (but with bikes and a gaff!)

  • theres a bunch of us from bristol heading to berlin with bikes this weekend, if anyones up for meeting up for a ride and some beers drop me a pm.

  • any place i berlin that rents fixed gear bikes? :)

  • actually i think there is. I saw 2 grey, chromed lug fixed hire bikes locked up in mitte, don't know the company though sorry.

  • Yes, there is somewhere that will hire them for free. But I can't remember the address. Somewhere in Mitte, South of Torstrasse, West of AlexanderPlatz.

It's on Max Beer Strasse, and is a marketing effort from Freitag.ch.

they've got one in the window and 2 hanging up in the back of the shop, i don't know if the ones in back are for borrowing or not.

super nice store anyway, if expensive.

also, just to say, get a welcome card if you're going to be in the city for a few days and going to a number of attractions, it does save you money. i didn't use it, because i didn't realise all the discounts until i was on my way back to the airport, and i would've saved a fair bit.

    damn.

  • Rollapaluza are in Berlin right now for a few days, can someone summarise the whole thread.....please?

  • i'm there on thursday, you guys still there then?

    oh, summary: berlin = good.

  • Are you doing an event, Winston?

  • cant be arse to check the whole thread, so sorry if it a repost but..
yesterday having a wonder through Prenzlauerberg found this bike museum/shop REMBETIS (oderberstrasse 35)
the guys was nice but nothing over the top, he told me that only sell bikes to people he like as he want the bikes to be look after, any way he only sell a few of them the other are just for show
he has there some amazing track bikes from the 40s, 50s and 60s, really really porn material
old cruiser, old town bikes , racers...
appartley he has been collecting bikes form young age, or at least is what he told me
worth a visit if yu are in the area

  • I may be moving to Berlin shortly, and as I've been doing a few of the basic sessions at Herne Hill I would like to continue out there. Does anyone know if there are any velodrome's other than this one - http://www.velodrom.de/en/ - apparently they only do pro cycling there.

  • I'm moving there too, my advice quit track racing and star playing bike polo, it is the future

  • there's a beautiful velodrome in prenzlauerberg. you need to get a special license to use it though.

  • how are you going to live when you move there?

  • Watch out for this guy...
