Cheers GA2G,
I've read your post on Locks that work so you won't be too impressed that I'd locked my wheels up with an armoured cable (but it's kept my other bikes safe for over 10 years riding in London). I'll take your advice on best D-locks for the next one though... -
• #3980
ruthy, please please please please find the LOCKS THAT WORK thread, and at least read the first post. But if you read more, its guaranteed to help you. I'm really sorry about your bike.
Only use a U-lock that has a bar diameter of 16mm or thicker. It's really important.

cheers guys, advice much appreciated. i've just purchased a kryptonite mini fahgettaboutit lock as well as an abus gold steel o flex lock so hopefully that will do the trick :

ruthy, if you have any friends on this forum, get them to show you the best way to lock up your bike. Just buying expensive locks will not always be the answer. HOW its locked is nearly as important what it is locked WITH.
I'm sending you a PM.......

the mini rocks, but sometimes I do spend ages trying to find a place to lock up with!
-

Hi GA2G - thanks for the heads up, but having had bikes for a while now, i feel pretty confident that the locks i've bought should be ok. i think having the other bike stolen was sheer bad luck and don't want to take any more risks. i've also heard that the smaller the d lock the better, and the mini has a lifetime guarantee. fingers crossed though - and yeah thanks for the advice all the same :)

My brother had his bike nicked by the westway football pitches off Bramley Road last night, after 3 months of me telling him to upgrade his fucking combination chain lock...
Anyway, here are the details:
Black Pake frame with half a red supreme box logo sticker up the seattube
Nitto risers with Black strong-v grips
Generic quill stem
Front black velocity deep v
Rear black dodici
Miche primato crankset
MKS Slyvan pedalsHes checking Brick lane but if anyone sees anything, or is around brick lane, could you keep an eye out
Thanks a lot -
• #3991
Will try and get a picture up if he has one
-
• #3992
You bugged him for three months to upgrade from a cable lock, and he simply didn't do it?
Nice bike that he had stolen. I wouldn't be surprised to find it on sale at the Carbooty on Carlton Vale, or in the market in Bush. From west to east is a bit of a trek for a thief.
Gumtree might be where it is now.Hope your bro has some luck, and do point him towards the Locks That Work thread.
For less than £15 he could have been very secure. :( -
• #3993
thanks. yeah, even after it was stolen he claimed that a better lock probably wouldn't have helped...hes a fool.
also, just in case, it had chrome straight blade forks on it...forgot to mention that -
• #3994
i know your brother and it was a very nice bike

Didn't a forum member have a Langster Monaco robbed a while back? I recall this add was suggested as it being the one. Don't know if it got resolved but the add is back......

I posted in the main forum in haste earlier but just to recap:
Around 19.45 tonight I saw a bunch of hoodlums polishing up a sweet specialised MTB - Red frame, white / gold forks, looked to be a stumpjumper or rockhopper but I was going by fast so wasn't sure of anything except that what was going down was the flogging of one VERY STOLEN BICYCLE. I phoned the police in Kings X and the guy said they'd send someone out to have a look.....im not convinced, but stranger things have happened.
They woz outside Tesco innit, on the corner.
170-168 Pentonville Rd.Hope this helps someone somewhere to get their bike back
meh.

my mate spotted this bike left in a back garden that his flat overlooks (Clapton). Will try and post a better photo later if the bike is still there. Apparently some sketchy kids live there and it's very likely stolen. Let me know if you recognise it.

Had my 65cm fixie stolen last night (Thursday 13th May) from The Cut / Short Street, Waterloo between 9pm-11pm (right opposite the Young Vic Theatre). Only just built it so don't have pictures - v annoying. Really big bike with high seat and fixed gear about 1% of the population would have been able to ride it away! It is totally stealth - matt black powdercoated with black Halo Aerorage wheelset, chopped silver riser bars, black DH stem, DMR grips, black seatpost. I'm guessing the theives would have carried it. Any info please let me know.

Thats a really unique bike, at 65cm. There's a good chance of being reunited with it I hope. By the way, since it was your new build, how was it locked up at the time it was stolen?
Bad. Any area in particular where it's worth looking out for it?
