Does it also amaze you that people may choose to cycle to the cinema rather than have to use public transport?
Does it also amaze you that people who don't have access to private bike storage still choose to commute to work by bike?
Yes, I'm amazed! THNX x

Thanks GA2G.. that's a huge help. Think I'm gonna need a lengthy period of mourning before I start considering my next steed. To be honest, it makes me wonder whether it's even worth having a decent bike in London... the joy of riding something you love versus the despair when its taken away by some thieving scumbag seems a little unbalanced at times. In case you hadn't guessed.. emotions are still a little raw!!

I totally get the feeling of distress. I had 2 bikes stolen, over a very long period of time, but in both cases, it was my fault.
Bikes can be very well protected, in London or anywhere else, but bike shops don't tell prospective owners about the best locks - they just sell you what they have, for what you can afford. They often don't care if its not going to help you.
I'm big enough to admit it was my fault. My last stolen bike was a Klein, secured with 3 U-locks. Each U-lock with a bar diameter of approximately 8mm. I have since learnt what really works.
In the end, maybe all of us at Lfgss will be the guiding lights for the rest. Its my simple hope really.

Has that 18mm from Wilson's in Peckham had any testing you know of? Am tempted but seems worringly cheap.

Forgot to say, re: my Mixer that's be taken, it's the 2010 model, which has slightly different Charge decals to the 2009 model.
2010 model...
2009 model...
I'd taken all stickers off the rims too. Cheers all!

I own that one. Is that enough of a recommendation for you? If not, then try the Motrax Large Disclock. Its very wide, so care must be taken to fill as much of the gap as possible, to prevent levering.

Dunno whether anyone has posted this yet, but this site seems a good quick way to visually look for stolen bikes on gumtree or whatever
Thanks for the link. Got happy for a moment, one Carrera popped up.
There are a shite load of Carrera's on Gumtree but all haven't been modified.
If anyone spots a Carerra Subway I MTB, that looks different to as standard. Please send me a text or something. 07903 TWO ONE TWO SEVEN THREE ONE...
Cheers.

Probably me on the replacement hippy. Same spec and colour but I swapped the stock wheels for some Halos with white rims.
Uxbridge Rd, west of Shep Bush?

Yup. I commute between Acton and Clapham.
Hope I was spotted caning it through traffic and not stopped for pies at the bakery near Devonport Rd. -

Hi all... this thread makes for really depressing reading I have to say. I've now had two bikes stolen in the last 3 months, the second of which was just last night. My black Charge Mixer was locked to a set of railings opposite Jam Bar on Shoreditch High Street, and was taken some time between 7pm - 9pm.
Only had it for a couple of weeks so not even had a chance to take a picture of it. For IDing it... the front tire is the standard Continental Sport Contact, but the back is a much narrower Conti Gatorskin with bright yellow lettering. I also chopped down the handle bars by a few cms and swapped the original grips for a set of black Ourys. Dark grey spoon saddle, and a few scuffs on the top tube.
I know it's a long shot but if anyone happens to see it around, if you could give us a quick shout back it would be massively appreciated. Best of luck to all others who've had their pride and joy swiped... the f**kers need castrating!

Huge thanks to Bikeranger and 606 for getting back to me on this! I'd actually seen it earlier on yesterday and contacted the Police. Problem is, the guys added one too many digits in his phone number so can't call, and there's been no response from email so far.
If anyone is offered, or knows anyone that is offered this bike on Gumtree please, please let me know asap. It feels like it's within touching distance and there's no way I'm letting it slip away. Is there anything else I can do... will contacting Gumtree be any use at all???

Where'd you get the Halos on white rims, out of interest? Are the Halos white too? Are the rims Velocity?

If people could keep their eyes peeled and let me know if the Charge Mixer appears anywhere else it would be much appreciated... huge thanks!

Yep I'd say that Gumtree ad was a little test to see how "hot" the merchandise was. E-mail and number completely faked.
PM is the way to go.

If you buy a bike at a police auction, is that then crossed off the list? Also if your riding the bike and the former owner see's it and smacks you one!! If I see my stolen Houldsworth Cyclone I'd smack and ask questions later.

robf, sorry your bike was stolen. How was it locked at the time?
I work in Farringdon, so if I see it, I shall stop the rider......

By Blue 56cm track bike has been 2 days ago.
Witnesses have told me the thief had a big nose and possibly had millitary training/experience so do not approach unless you can handle youreself.I've also been told he is apparently trying to sell this to unsuspecting people wanting a cheap vintage fixie, he may also have tried to disguise it by using his sic painting skillz .
If anyone does tries to sell you this please let me know.
