Hi,
I hade a break in to my house last night. I was traveling but my girlfriend was home, a sleep. They stole my bike and our flatmates.
First, they stole my Swobo, originally bought at Brick Lane Bikes, the serial nr is: H7BR10722. The only changes made from the pictures was the saddle was changes in to a brooks B17 Champion saddle. And instead of clip ons it was a pair of leather strap pedals. The bike was not amazing, but it was my first bike in London, since I recently moved over. And it meant a lot to me.The other one was a "create bike" next to new. Only change made, I think was that the logo was covered with duck tape.
They where stolen at Cecilia Road, Dalston, E82ET.
I would be grateful for any information, we lost a lot of other stuff as well. Thanks
All the best
Johan

Scumbags. I live near Dalston so I'll keep my eyes peeled. Hope insurance can replace most of what you lost and that you didn't lose anything sentimentally precious.

Jebus, freakshow. Glad no one was hurt and hope your insurance (?) will help out. My flat got cleaned out last year - it's the worst.

Stolen last Friday at 16.39 outside Swiss Cottage sports centre. Was locked with Kryptonite wire lock and padlock. The towrags were filmed on the sports centre CCTV hence knowing the exact time of them nicking it. Any advice on whether its worth a trip to Brick Lane Market, and other places to post details of nicked bike gratefully received. Attempting to upload photo but upload tool doesn't seem to like a Blackberry file - will try file type shortly.

an expensive Condor Squadra, whose frame is RRP aty £800, locked with a cheap wire lock and padlock?! you realise that the wire lock isn't design to be a main lock?

Hi all... this thread makes for really depressing reading I have to say. I've now had two bikes stolen in the last 3 months, the second of which was just last night. My black Charge Mixer was locked to a set of railings opposite Jam Bar on Shoreditch High Street, and was taken some time between 7pm - 9pm.
Only had it for a couple of weeks so not even had a chance to take a picture of it. For IDing it... the front tire is the standard Continental Sport Contact, but the back is a much narrower Conti Gatorskin with bright yellow lettering. I also chopped down the handle bars by a few cms and swapped the original grips for a set of black Ourys. Dark grey spoon saddle, and a few scuffs on the top tube.
I know it's a long shot but if anyone happens to see it around, if you could give us a quick shout back it would be massively appreciated. Best of luck to all others who've had their pride and joy swiped... the f**kers need castrating!

^what lock did you employ?

• #3942
It amazes me that anyone locks a bike up out of their line of sight for more than 10 minutes.

lisjon - keep an eye on Gumtree, and try and get the number of your local community police (main Met will be useless). They may or may not pay a visit on the seller if you have the serial number. Must likely not, and will suggest you do the sting yourself, which sounds risky to me.

The lock was a Magnum Plus armoured cable - seemed pretty heavy duty. There's obviously no guarantees in life but I was hoping it would at least put up some form of resistance. I have a feeling a D-lock will be the way forward in future... but I've always thought they restrict what you can lock your bike too.

Does it also amaze you that people may choose to cycle to the cinema rather than have to use public transport?
Does it also amaze you that people who don't have access to private bike storage still choose to commute to work by bike?

Dunno whether anyone has posted this yet, but this site seems a good quick way to visually look for stolen bikes on gumtree or whatever

Cheers jv... not the most glowing of endorsements is it! I know it's not much of a deterrent to a determined thief, but it was locked in a pretty busy public area so if someone did take a set of croppers to it I'd have thought it would've attracted a fair bit of attention. B*stards... would just loved to have caught them in the act!

Hi all... this thread makes for really depressing reading I have to say. I've now had two bikes stolen in the last 3 months........
Very, very sad news Huckster. Have a look at the Locks That Work thread, if you have a moment. I personally got fed up of the amount of bikes being stolen, and others and I have contributed to some pretty essential lock(ing) information.
Hope you have luck getting your bike back, and if you aren't that lucky, at least I hope that you find a lock that really works for you.
Stolen from my backgarden today....
Basket has a MixtMeat sticker on it. White saddle, no brakes (coaster) blah blah heads up in the London Fields area. Dairy Crest crate on a chunky rack. Rear mudguard tied on with string.
Incidentally when I discovered that had been nicked I had to ride my real bike to the Rio where obviously the Saddle + Seatpost where nicked as I watched a film.
