That would be a stellar finishing venue.
I meant it as "that's not a good date because I'm riding in the KGR and hence I couldn't do the Tweed outing", but I guess it would be a good tweedy finishing point...

So what's the 'set in stone' date for this outing, Seldom Killer? Need to get it in the Lucifer family diary toot sweet.

sounds totally west,
No idea whats happening at the start of term, but I have mates in Sheff and Darley and Manc so Im in for this jaunt, as long as we can have Kate Bush playing the after party.

You a sucker for a bit of Wuthering Heights, Jason?
-
• #31
yeah love it, although you resemble Heathcliff far better than I ever could....
-
• #32
Too kind, Sir, too kind. Actually, I can almost see Wuthering Heights from my front bedroom window. I can see the windfarm just above it, looming on the distant horizon. Might have ruined the atmosphere of the book if they'd been present 170 years ago...

Hey S Killer.
So is there a date for this?
I reckon I could arrange for the lovely ladies of Hope to provide us with a tea stop. Would also like to let my Sheff mates know.....
-
• #34
Sounds good.
Is there anywhere to stay up North?
-
• #35
EEI - I think I could sort you out with somewhere to stay in Sheff once we get a date.
-
• #36
Like some already know, I own a biggish car with roof box (Grand Scenic - also can fit three cycles carrier) if there are people from London allergic to trains.
-
• #37
Kris - James is coming up to stay with me. I'd love to be able to put you up, but It might be tricky - I'll have to ask Mrs Lucifer! He might like a lift though. Cheaper than those pesky trains!

If it started in Derby, the Mercian boys could worship at their shrine and could use one of the old railway routes - http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/whitepeak-trails-map.pdf
-
• #39
cheers for that map ^ could come in handy for another event Im doing there in June.
For the excursion, all sorts of possibilities are coming to me with the area in mind,
including places like North Lees Estate visit, (where 1 Bronte stayed and wrote)
Gothic novels must be full of tweed, tweedsters, imagine the outfits! If we make it a tough man contest and do Winnats etc, fixed=folly, so for that reason Im liking the trails idea, which also means more possibility of tea and cake in old railway stations and the like.....

What you wouldn't get:
Free ginI'm out.
Out of my mind. Joking, must remember to buy gin.

OK, unless there is a mass revolt, the date will be 4th September. Apologies Northern Graeme if this rules you out. However, if this goes well I promise that I'll try to make a regular event of this.
If there is a mass revolt then the other alternative is 12th September (Burton on Trent and potential ire from my good lady for clashing with the start of the cyclocross calenday be damned). Final call will be tomorrow morning.

4th September.
It was stated three posts above yours, as clear as day.
Fucking southern jessie.
You couldn't find your arse using both hands and a torch. -

Can the two of you please keep your public displays of affection out of this thread. I respect any man's right to "admire another man's moustache" as it were, but this flirting is just tawdry.
-
• #48
i may not be able to find my arse but am sure yours could accomodate one of those big old fashioned square battery torches, it was doing ok with a big maglite the other weekend without lube
date is in the diary
what innoculations do i need to venture this far out of civilisation?

The only inoculations you'll need is a big dose of HTFU and a woolly vest for your soft, southern tum tum.
By the way, when do you need that torch back? I've had it in dettol for a fortnight, so I think it's safe again. -

I could well be in, only just spotted this. Depends what date is finally decided upon - I shall mention to Jess and see what we've maybe got going on then.
(Back to work, I know).

That would be a stellar finishing venue. With a not indecently early start we could make that for about 3.30, 4pmish and see the finish (which would be the exciting part).
I chose Stockport because it would mean that people could easily hop on trains and head for home but Knutsford isn't too far out from there or Manchester. You can easily make a quick hop up to the Ship Canal and head on in to town.
Very tempting.
