  • my wheel had a slight wobble. he attempted to knock the bearing cap in to tighten it up with a screw driver and mallet. there was a big crack in the cap when he was done.

since offered to help me fix it... good on ya foffa

  • why are they all fixed and have rear brake, or am i missing something?

I friend hurt himself riding into a pothole recently and every time he goes back to hospital to have his cast looked at there are people there who have been f@!cked up on bikes. The one today was some guy who had bought a fix with a rear brake and no foot restraint, skidded using the brake then let go, the pedals started turning and broke both his shins

I dont get this. Was he riding backwards?

Anyway the problem arose, because of the lack of foot restraint, not because of the fitted rear brake.

  • Remember that thread where Brick Lane Bikes had drilled off some guys expensive cranks because they were stuck on?

that was asm and the cottered cranks of doom..

  • It was ASM, they weren't cottered cranks and it was an angle grinder not a drill.

  • Link to this ASM thread please?

  • Well you should try getting your car fixed, if you think this stuff is bad ...

  • And a small Foffa dig.
Out of however many hundreds of people on Critical Mass on Friday, a Foffa bike pulls up to me and compliments me on mine. I said, thanks, you're not Dani Foffa by any chance, to which he replied, nope, but he is, and called Dani over.
    What are the chances.
Had a nice chat for a while, he's a really nice guy. The idiot mechanics are out, the business is shaping up and there will be an opening party soon, and he's keen to get some forum members in.
Apart from that, his frame looked pretty tight I have to say, might be worth a look.

  • ^was he the chap on the yellow foffa frame wt rear disc?

I was surprised to see the Foffa label on that thing as it did look good!

  • yep that was him.
His PR guy Tyson was there too on the blue Foffa, the bloke I met initially.
The geometry looks pretty tight, no toe overlap, and think frames were just over £200 with forks.

  • Yeah Tyson gave me a card after asking if I ever wanted a single speed or a fixie on CM. I guess he didn't notice my BMX is a single speed.... I also struggled to conceal my laughter.

  • Time for an update on the latest adventures Foffa Bikes.
After bumping in to Dani at Critical Mass, we broached the subject of sponsorship for a polo team or at least player. A few weeks later I received a note from Dani asking me if I'd like to come and try one of his new track frames for a while on the polo court. A free bike for me to play with! Excellent. I went down to his shop last week to discuss requirements etc. and it all looks pretty good in there so far. There are racks of conversions as well as a lot of his new 'Prima' frames and built up bikes. A couple of days later, I get the call to come and get my new polo bike!

I've given this a go and I really like frame. The geometry is fantastic, it handles really well, it's a proper sturdy frame and there's no toe over lap even on the 51cm.
I'm not just saying this because he's given me a bike to try out, but IMO, the Foffa Primas are really quite good. They wanted an honest opinion on what I thought of the frame, because if there are bad points, then they can do something about it. The components on this are fairly low spec, but I think you can spec it up as little or as much as you want, or, it doesn't say on the website, but you can pick up the frame and forks for £220, which I think is pretty reasonable.

I appreciate this post might sound a bit like spam, and you can guess Dani's motives for wanting to give me of all people a go on his new product, but as I've said all along, if your product is bad then you will get found out and panned, but if it's a good product, then hopefully it will speak for itself.

Feel free to flame, but I got me a really nice polo bike. ;)

  • what's happened to his associate?

  • For a £150 extra you can get a Bob Jackson frame and use it on the track no contest.

  • Which one?
If you mean the mechanic Ian Mcfarlane and Son, then they were fired, mostly because of this thread I think. I think this was mentioned in this thread a while back.
If you mean Tyson, then he's the PR man and still there.

  • It's a fine point, but it's the whole 'shall I Go Large' thing isn't it? "It's only a bit more, may as well" then BAM! They've got you.

    Think on.

    yeah i meant them. interesting.

it would be useful for them to post the geometry of the "prima".

I didn't want to be drawn in to defending them, I don't think it's my place, but I don't think this is a comparable example. That's another 3rd on the price so they're clearly not aimed in the same market. I don't think they're trying to compete with a Bob Jackson frame either. One is a £220 and the other is a £380 frame, that's a hell of a swinging budget if you were considering them both.

  • What are the specs on the frame?

  • Have paged Dani to put the geo up. Might be here or on his website.

I'll be at polo tomorrow P if you want a look see at mine.

  • Hi all,

it is good to hear that Wicksie is enjoying our creation without the hassle of toe overlap which the lovely 'shall I Go Large' Bob Jackson track frame has.

Respect to the Bob Jackson brand since I really like their frames but as Wicksie explained they target a completely different market and I still cant believe why they wouldn't get the toe overlap right.

As we have said in the past we are open to feedback so any suggestions are more than welcome.

When we decided to open up F0ffa we went back to the drawing board to come up with a frame that was both strong, sturdy, customisable, yet affordable. We feel the price point for our frames is fair and reasonable considering it also comes with a 5 years warranty.

As far as the geometry is concerned the main points we wanted to make sure were covered are:

    • sturdy butted Cr-Mo 4130 tubings
    • laser cut 5mm thick track-ends
    • no toe overlap!
    • height from the ground to the bb is over 11inch so unlikely pedal strike

I am more than happy to answer any queries about the spec directly via email (dani@f0ffabikes.com) or feel free to come down to the shop to check them out for yourself.

Also I will be posting a new thread, but to briefly mention here, we will be having an opening party combined to the next critical mass so come down if you get the chance!

    Cheers,

    dani

£150 is enough to buy you a decent wheelset, even if it's only £150 over to get the BJ, it's still a lots of money.

or you could says that for £150 over the BJ... etc.

that cycle always going to continued.

    Hi all,

we would like to introduce to all the fixie and ss enthusiasts our new workshop in Aldgate East.

We will be having an opening party at our showroom (Unit 11 pinchin street, E1 1SA) straight after the next Critical Mass (30th of April) with free drinks, snacks and dj so try to make it if you can.

The Critical Mass usually starts at 7 o clock under Waterloo Bridge on the Southbank and we are hoping to head to the shop at 9 or so.

RSVP dani@f0ffabikes.com if you are planning to come along so we'll make sure there's enough drinks for everybody!

    Cheers,

    dani

  • Free beer you say?

I'll be there, +1, and I should probably bring my Foffa Prima also.

PS people, there's a pool table as well as free beer.

They make **track **frames with toe overlap, so it isn't a problem.

  • secondly, toe overlap isn't an issue, it's something that's normally happen, Dave Moulton explained it better;
