"he got hit by a car? what hapend?!"
"i don't know, but he was riding a fixed gear and wearing a messenger bag..."
"oh he probably tried to d-lock the windows then, he probably desreved it"yeah.
you can't extrapolate from 2 facts about someone, that they are from Brighton and that they are an animal rights activist, to then say that they desrve to be attacked by hired thugs
"hired thugs"
lol ok
oh and I hope im not the only one that believes we should take animal rights activists and use them for experiments.
"i was in a group of people doing illegal things en masse and ignoring commands to disperse engaging in violence against the police and the destruction of property when the office hit me" is not cause to sue.
exactly.
I'd rather some mouthy demonstrator got a smack than have the police under even more pressure when It comes down to actually taking action In circumstances that more people would deem "legitimate"

They were not engagin in either illegal 'things' or causing destruction to property, i think you need to get to grasp with the facts of the matter...
yeah.

"Mouthy demonstrators" are the ones that got womne the vote, or poll tax revoked, bloody idiots the lot of them. as for my use of hired thugs? what is your definition of a thug? are the police not paid to do a similar job?

hmm.. interesting discussion. the fact of the matter is, she didn't break any law, she got beaten by someone who swore an oath to protect her, he got off. it doesn't matter whether she sold her story or not.
if everything were dealt internally all the time in any organisation (as has well been demonstrated in the past), this would just open things up to cover-up and corruption and watching each other's backs. e.g. the catholic church.
that's why we have the IPCC, needless to say they aren't doing that greater job but that's another story.

what do those pictures have to do with this particular case, just because you are present at a protest doesn't mean you have the right to be truncheoned... or in ian tomlinson's case, killed.
the right to protest, and right to free speech, in this country is something you should be proud of, and should be protected at all costs.

but there is no right to destroy someones else's property I'd be pissed and have been when someone has done my window in

Thankyou. I have said this at least once on this thread that THIS WASNT THE PROTEST WHERE ALL US COOL ANARKISTS SMASHED ALL WINDOWS AND BANKS N SHIT, this was a vigil/protest for someone that had been killed the day before (by the police). she was breaking no law.
-
• #1365
I like the girl thats whipping the bank, she comes in at the end after the smashing is done and gives it a good whipping before everyone is made to clear off.

utter mongs,
I still can't get over quite how fucking stupid you are for quoting these pictures.
- Had she been ther one the 1st April, but not engaged ins smashing windows of an empty RBS, at a government sanctioned protest, then the cuntstabable smelie would still not be legitimised in attacking her.
- SHE WASN'T THERE, THIS WAS ANOTHER DAY
Should we allow all attacks on any palestinians, at any time or place, simply because i can copy and paste this photo?

Christ you're a mong.
Just because they were on separate days doesnt mean that it didnt affect the situation.
Put yourself in the position of anyone who has had to deal with public disorder. Tensions were high the first day because of these dribblers getting a bit big for their boots and thinking it was clever to smash up the RBS building and throw things at the police. After the death of someone it is likely to assume that the tensions would be higher and a violent disorder more likely to occur. (how can you not see this?) As a result the police would have been VERY on edge and more likely to react aggresively (as this idiot did). She was told to move back, chose instead to have a go and as a result got hit.
Boo hoo, she made 26k, im sure she thinks it was worth it.
I dont even care about this silly woman or that specific copper, its all this "the police are cunts" drivel I cant stand. Christ, Just get a haircut and have a bath.

Oh that's a weight off my mind,
there was me worrying about the right to protest when the government endeavours to shatter whole communities by closing down collieries largely based on a personal vendetta by the incumbent PM, bringing in huge swathes of the police force to violently disrupt a legal strike, beating 7 shades of shite out of legally striking working men and women.
The poor little lambs must have been 'on edge' when they carried out all those mounted baton charges.
It's all this "anyone who protests is an unwashed anarchist" drivel I can't stand. Christ, Just get a wider perspective
-
• #1369
On a wider level, if this would have gone through and the police officer had been prosecuted, then every dickhead with a gripe against any policeman would feel encouraged to take any officer to court for misconduct. It would have seriously undermined their authority.
Taking an officer to court for misconduct is a bad thing? Seriously? You want the police to police themselves? I can't see any problem with that. None at all.

Your right-wing perspective would have led me to believe you're a religious fellow. I guess not.

A police officer is expected to act in a professional way. Just because they happened to murder someone the day before doesn't mean you should have to walk on egg shells around them (well, pragmatically, it does. Shows what kind of bullshit some London cops are actually capable of. Although this is not news. She should count herself lucky she wasn't Brazilian).
What's more, surely after a death the day before, the police should have taken a bit more care.
-
• #1370
The Police amped up the perceived threat level in the first place, days, weeks before the protests. They then had the justification they needed to act like paramilitary bully boys. Fundamentally, grown men (Polis or otherwise) should not be allowed to beat down on a Woman with their fucking big black sticks unless she poses an immediate and real danger - it's quite clear that she didn't.

I'm going to, as long as the global capitalist system keeps forcing them to move over here from the former soviet states/ mid west my job is fairly secure.

they are exceptionally well-mannered, compared to every other police force in the world.
It's irrelevant.
I think I have said this before, but when corned about the fact that you beat your wife once a week, it is no excuse to say that the bloke down the road beats his wife 5 times a week.
That other countries have poor policing has no bearing on the question.
but this wasn't an ordinary situation, it was a high-intensity protest.
It was a wake for the death the previous day of Ian Tomlinson.

Nodding to the judge after the hearing ended, Smellie said: "Thank you very much." The 47-year-old sergeant refused to talk to reporters outside the courtroom, saying: "I don't think so, I've got a reputation to protect."

most anarchists i know wash regularly and look just like 'normal' folk.
On the issue of the Smellie case, i'm not remotely surprised that he got off. I'm sure they get away with much worse than this on a daily basis. It's just that there happened to be lots of cameras around.
Ultimately the police are there to protect the laws of the ruling classes. Sometimes, the laws of the ruling classes help the rest of us (e.g. making murder, rape etc illegal), but the primary purpose of the police is to protect private property, enclosure of commons, capital accumulation, and their privileged paymasters. You see, an economic system like capitalism that is manifested through a process of what is essentially crisis management can't survive without workers who do what they're told and STFU. The first police forces were gangs of thugs hired to protect property that was stolen from the peasants and sold/rented back to them by feudal lords. And they still are, in a sense, even if they have taken on some moderate 'community support' functions over the years.
she got manhandled a bit, maybe a bit harshly I agree, but she was looking for it.
jaysus, replace being gobby with wearing a short skirt and that could have been lifted straight from a Daily Mail article about rape victims "asking for it".
Get fucked, you bellend.
