• I've found that music equipment gets good prices on eBay without too much special attention, but I have to say that I'd be surprised if the band name got you that much of a premium over market value. In the past I've got good results by running a regular eBay listing then once it's up, posting a link to it all over every appropriate forum and blog I can find.

  • If you are selling amps then the transport costs may be prohibitive. Offer a delivery/pickup service if anyone close to the storage area wins the auction.

As Snowy said try the fan club first.

Yes - you've got to offer delivery to have any chance of getting a decent price. Scout around for good deals on transport before you list. Weight everything carefully so that you won't pay over the odds when you do send it.

  • Nine inch nails did a pretty huge sale a few months ago. Everything was numbered and came with a certificate of authenticity. Set up a store style eBay account and list everything. Then hammer it out to the fans through Twitter/forums etc.

That's a really cool gig to get. Obviously won't be as vast as the nin sales (they were selling a the shattered guitars, parts, everything) but it will still be cool and garner some big interest.

Hmm signed photo and a letter of authenticity autographed unit maybe, it depends if the band has a large following.

None of it was signed, it was just certified as being part of the nin touring rigs. They didn't confirm that Trent reznor had touch it or anything like that. People will collect anything, as long as it's authentic.

  • EIL might buy it off you, they usually don't offer anywhere near what they sell stuff for though.

  • Why they split?

  • yer definately go for the fan club. and if not just start plugging the URl of your ebay account in every indie forum/website/blog you can find

    This.

  • I've heard of them. Couldn't tell you any of their songs though.

  • I love The Raveonettes. Have they split up?

Nah, They are just sick of paying for storage here in the UK. It's cheaper to just rent their equipment when they tour here.

  • No disrespect to the band, but you would have to be pretty big to expect a premium on the going rate for your gear. Guitars could be an exception but you have intimated that this is gear that they had here in storage for touring so no 'special' pieces. Having said that, if when they came here they bought vintage jazzmaster's and gretsch's (gretschie?), they will have held their value. I have a good mate that works at vintage and rare guitars in Denmark street. He would give you a realistic value on the guitars, but you'd be better to sell it privately as you will get more despite the hassle. To be honest, it's pretty much the same as selling bike stuff!

  • Every item should be accompanied by a signed photo and short piece of prose about where the equipment was used. The better the anecdote the more it'll sell for.

Never, ever underestimate the stupidity of obsessive fans with disposable cash (and that goes for pretty much ANY band!)

I don't think anyone is expecting huge sums of money for their stuff. But It is distinctly theirs as it all says RAVE and ON and stuff like that. I'm just trying to sell it for as much as humanly possible, purely out of self interest. I need the money!

  • I'm not trying to put a downer on how much you will get for it, which is why I pointed out that fans may pay more for guitars if associated with a band. They look like the type of band who will have bought the right type of gear. Get a realistic quote from a decent shop, then put it for sale on the bay giving it the large spiel and if it doesn't match, pull the sale. As with bike stuff, it will be more profitable if you sell each item individually, unless there is a raveonettes stalker out there! By the way, pm me a list and I'll try to let you know if there are any real bits you should hold out for mega cash. If you need the money you could definitely max out on the best bits!

This could be true, but weirdly enough I was in the same position as EG about ten years ago and those fans haggled like ' insert one of Ed's funny expletives!' Yeah it might look like a pre CBS ****** but it's ********'s pre CBS *******. Didn't work :-(

  • I love The Ravonettes, I've been to see them a few times and they're awesome.

However, I'd agree that you're unlikely to get much over market rate tbh.

You'd be better off going for a good eBay strategy - good, sharp, big, clear photos, start listings at about 8 on a Thursday night and list for 10 days to end on Sunday night (always good for bids and 10 days exposure gets more watchers), that kind of thing.

  • I bid on a bike this week and won it for a bargain price, but the owner called up and said that he'd sold it outside eBay the night before. He was pretty polite, so I let it go. But now eBay is sending me emails telling me I need to pay for it - any idea on what I need to do?

Seems like there must be a process for this. Bit annoyed I'm having to do it though.

  • I'm sure that it's against ebay's rules to list items elsewhere.

I think you'd have every right to complain to ebay, but i guess it's up to you if you want to let it go.

  • You can click on further actions in the 'My eBay' section and ask eBay to resolve it.

  • eBay can't make someone sell you an item.

The emails received were probably auto generated.

Ask the seller to cancel sell.

  • The seller just needs to mark it paid. Considering his deviousness that is surely the least he can do for you.
