  • Hello

I started an account here to simply try and find my bike, but it says i have to post 3 times before I can start a thread so hope nobody minds me making a start here. I'm looking for my beloeved pashley poppy in pink and need help! I have started a group on facebook, please invite everyon you know and join yourself. There is a photo of my bike there and th link is http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?v=wall&ref=ts&gid=10150120859850790

"Hello. My bike was stolen from the Queen Mary University of London campus, in Mile End, East London, on Thursday the 11th of March, between 10:45am and 1:10 pm, and I am desperately trying to trace it. It is not only of great financial value, but sentimental value as well, as it was a present from my Father who is currently very unwell. It means a lot to me.

    FEATURES YOU MAY RECOGNISE.
    • Make is Pashley and model is “Poppy”.
    • Bright barbie pink.
    • Vintage style frame.
    • Straw basket on front which according to CCTV footage may have been removed.
    • Matching mudguard on front and back.
    • Silver bell on left hand handle bar.
    • The leather on the saddle, which is manufactured by Brooks, is worn slightly on left hand side.
    • There are two large black marks on the bar that runs between the legs.
    • Pashley Poppies have a built in silver pump usually placed under the saddle, behind the rear wheel – my bike doesn’t as this is missing. There is a massive gap where this should sit.

I parked my bike with a proper lock at the bike racks just between Drapers Lecture theatre and Library square. At 10:45, CCTV showed a man dressed in dark clothing, with a dark back pack, and a light coloured beanie hat pushing a pink bike, with a very similar body frame to me, though minus the basket, down past the Physics buildings and onto Mile End Road. I have filled a report with police and security. If you perhaps know any information of the whereabouts of my bike, it would be in your best interests to get in contact with me. All Pashleys carry a unique identification number which can NEVER be removed; it can always be tracked. If you know any information and wish to share this with me, and perhaps even return my bike to me, which as I said, is off huge sentimental value to me, please call 07545784821. No questions asked. The police are in the process of tracking and have CCTV footage.

    Thank you for your time."

If you can spread the word in others ways, please do. This bike means the world to me.

  • You mean the racks behind the geography block? That's not a good sign, mine's locked there almost every day. Good luck with the search.

  • Yeh behind geography block. Be careful security told me theres been a string of bike thefts on campus lately. Nice of them ot let us all know tho yeh? FML.... If you go to QMUL please invite people to group. I'm putting up flyers in a bit too.

  • Bertille?

Glad i keep my bike in my halls at QM now, always thought it would be pretty safe considering all the people/security

  • 3 kids tried to kick me off my bike tonight on Crimscott St, SE1.

It's mad that I always feel safe on my bike in London any time of the day/night but now I feel a little bit vulnerable. Just thought I'd put it out there so people watch out down the back streets.

Never lock up on the racks opposite the francis bancroft building, I've seen so many bikes with bits missing and a good number of bare frames left. There's so many bikes you just have to make yours less appealing to steal. It's different if you live in halls though as you wont need to lock it up for lectures etc.

    Not good.
That sort of thing shakes you up for a bit. I've had kids ride mopeds at me and throw stones at me whilst riding past a couple of estates in Kings Cross. Even though I know they do it because they're bored and angry with their lot in life, it still doesn't allay my concerns. But it doesn't pay to be fearful and the general rule is if they see you often enough and you don't seem particularly vulnerable or aggy, you'll become part of the landscape.

Providing you keep your wits about you, which you should be doing anyway riding in London, you can generally avoid or predict most situations. The unfortunate thing is that this is all you can do and that it must be done.

Having said all that, the enjoyment and feeling of catharsis I get from riding, even on rides marred by those who hassle me or put my safety in danger, far outweighs the enjoyment I get from driving. There are antisocial pricks in all walks of life and there will be forever more.

  • Shit Ali hope you are ok love. Fucking bermondsey scallys

If you do a search on the number you get some more adverts, all the same name though which suggests he's either really stupid or it's legit..I'll go for stupid.
He's selling a room as well

it has a unipac front wheel...which maybe means the bike might be legit with a stolen spok? just a thought. Ignore that, i just looked the the frame it's quite nice apart from the front wheel...

  • Yeah, I noticed that, it is wierd, and very badly lit as well - which makes it harder to identify..maybe he's not that stupid..then again.
We need some CSI enhance shit done on the pic.

  • How long does it usually take for bikes to apear on gumtree generally?

  • And agree someone needs ot od something to stop this. Seriously. Vigilante Posse?

  • depends, tho it could be in brighton, portsmouth or in a shipping container for a few months untill its "safe" to sell

  • Why brighton or portsmouth?

  • big bike populations easy to sell/close to london - sometimes its a bit more than a bunch of kids with some bolt croppers :S its an organised crime theses days, van loads of bikes prob get shipped there and back every week
