THIS RIDE IS CAPPED
info to follow about who is riding on which train. basically we can put half on the 19:09 and half on the 19:33. those meeting us there can choose which train to catch. obviously the faster riders will be on the later train.
THIS RIDE IS CAPPED
Sounds a good plan Mr T, I will meet you at Effingham J

Damn you and your consideration for my safety...
I will try and sort out some better lights whilst in yorkshire this weekend: something i really ought to have done pre-winter. Most likely my dodgy knee will give way on my sunday ride ruling me out anyway. Hope not though!

THIS RIDE IS CAPPED
Tuesday March 16th The Widowmaker 19:09 at Waterloo http://www.gmap-pedometer.com
A 29 miler. 3 major climbs including the 18% whitedown.bring a map, phone, money, spare tubes, spare batteries, a quality light, food, etc.
ride alongside someone who knows the route or at least knows how to get back to a train station if you get lost (phone reception is dodgy) if the hills split people apart wait at the top till we all gather.the theory is that the second group will play catch up. when that happens we'll all wait at key points in the ride for everyone else. key points are 1) top of pitch hill 2) top of cold harbour/ holmbury 3) top of the widowmaker

If anyone pulls out I'm in

sam, pistol, martin - you decide which group you wanna meet at effingham and ride with at the beginning.
@ - bainbridge - got you on reserve...and don't worry...tuesday morning sees a few fall by the wayside so go to work prepared to ride
-
• #91
Is this ride capped due to trains? If so can other riders meet at Effingham?
-
• #92
This may sound naive but what is the received wisdom re: lights to see/lights to be seen? My budget probably only covers the latter.
Really looking forward to this, have not been for a proper ride since moving to london's famous a fortnight ago.

You can't see your hand in front of your face out there, and there are long 15% descents.

Ive got one of these Dinottes, will that be enough? Seems pretty bright in town but I've not tested it anywhere without streetlights

I guess I'd better study the lights thread for bargains...

@ - fasteddy - capped for trains. more than welcome to join the ride at effingham. bring the polo bike again :)
@ - raskol - lights to see. you can pick up a hope 1 for 70 quid if i'm not mistaken. otherwise put the word out on here to borrow on the night...you will probably get a response quickly. without proper lights it aint worth the risks to the group. these lanes can get dark and there's a few big pot holes out there now. we look forward to riding with you dude.
@ - bainbridge - you could always meet us out there. sam, purple, pistolero are you guys riding from town? you could ride out with them. come back on the train though, it's empty and we pretty much treet is as our own team issue. personally i don't know much about that light....anyone?

I use a Dinotte whenever I make the TNRC rides, you should be fine.
Remember folks, it's pitch black out there in those Surrey Hills, so you need good lights to see where you're going. They also help spot badgers emerging from the undergrowth (although you can hear them too).

Thanks for the advice all...
If anyone can lend me a front light for the evening I'd be chuffed, and would repay the favour in beer.

oh yeah! a dinotte should show up all manner of nature spots....we'll miss you out there andy. hope the family is keeping well.
Er...
