In a famous tragedy, the then Prime Minister of the German state of Thuringia killed a woman with whom he collided. He was wearing a skiing helmet, she was not.

The more you rest the quicker you'll be able to ride properly again though.

This is why i posted in the Bikeradar thread you bastards...
Actually, Friday it was decided that a Trike was the way forward for me. Not a bad idea!
Until i can ride properly, i think body armour is in need - see the logic. Keep up people!

Here's the weird thing - I would never consider wearing a helmet while skiing, but would not go without one when snowboarding.
For me it comes down to the likelihood of landing on my head - This has never happened in 30+ years of skiing, but happens every few days of boarding.
I'm quite into wearing a helmet when snowboarding, not because I feel very much safer, but because it keeps my head warmer than a hat. Unfortunately the same doesn't apply when cycling.
Incidentally, you stop falling over when you've finished learning how to snowboard. You probably fell over quite a bit 30 years ago when you were learning to ski, too, but time heals all wounds and all that.
EDIT: I hope you are still learning and I'm not patronising you here...

My mate's been skiing since he was a kid, parents always made him wear a helmet as a kid and he just kept wearing one. He's always going off-piste and doing black runs so he says he feels he should wear one. Also he falls over doing stupid shit a lot. Just over Christmas he got avalanched on and hit his head pretty hard. He just text me last month saying he bought a new helmet with ultra warm lining and headphones built in so he clearly doesn't see it as a hindrance or an annoyance. I think it's because of that he also always cycles wearing a helmet. Thankfully he doesn't preach.

Always been a big fan of the Giro Xen - Good shape (comfy), vents aren't bad and it weighs little.
Of all the cycling lids out there, it also looks quite nice, at least in matte black.Tp those of you with spherical bean-heads, I highly recommend it.

I've been boarding for almost 20 years. I just tend to put myself through a lot more when I'm boarding. My "every few days" comment might have been exaggerating a little.
15 years here. I still have loads of tumbles.
Keep meaning to buy a helmet :S
