The Spok is dead...

  • There was one recently on Strand, just before Aldwich heading Westbound.

Fuck knows what caused it, but it was seriously 7 or 8 inches deep, with a big angular tarmac chunk in the bottom. I very nearly lost my wheels to that one.

  • There is no such thing, especially with Local Authorities.

I bet you wish your spok was shatterproof, like your ruler ;)

Hope your claim is swift and successful.

  • The culprit:

    should have bunny hopped

  • should have bunny hopped

or steered around it or stop and get off bike and walk on pavement. Many options but then we weren't there were we :-)

  • should have bunny hopped

That gag would have worked without quoting all his images.

    Silence. I kill you.

  • ok ok. coming home today, north along woburn place.

hit a pothole, it was dark, almighty bang bang as my front and rear smacked onto it, some how no puncture, thank you maxxis refuses, check it over, nothing seems a miss so carry on, when braking with front brake, get the feeling that happens when the rim is dented, stop to check, can't find any dents. get home, check in the light, feel the rim, no dents. wheels are a little out of true. something feels a bit weird, which i will look over later/tomorrow, i'm tired. anyway, does anyone know the likelyhood of me getting money out of whoever is responsible for a - a complete check of the frame for cracks and wheel truing by a proper mechanic, or b - wheel truing? i was going to go back tomorrow to take some photos of it etc, and write a letter explaining how i could have fallen off or could still suffer serious injury from unnoticed damage to frame caused by the hole.

    thanks. apologies for poor grammar.

  • compensation? it would be easier to do vigilante pot hole filling ourselves i reckon

  • that is quite the hole.

    lol

  • compensation? it would be easier to do vigilante pot hole filling ourselves i reckon

    +1

  • ok, discovered the issue today, dented rim. didn't spot it at first (felt it from the brake rubbing) because its quite long and shallow rather than an obvious one. anyone know who to write to?

  • for anyone interested, i emailed CTC using the form on www.fillthathole.org.uk

I recently hit a pot hole on woburn place, just north of Russell Square in London. I couldn't avoid it as it was dark and so was unable to see it. This dented my front rim and caused both wheels to go out of true. Is there a way I can claim from TfL (i think it's a red route) or the local authority? Will be taking pictures ASAP.

Roughly speaking you'd have to show in court that:
    1) The pothole caused the damage.
    2) The pothole was serious enough to be a hazard to road users.
    3) The highway authority was aware of the hazard, or should have found it
    on a routine inspection.
    4) The highway authority hadn't fixed the hazard in a reasonable time
    after knowing about its existence.

The fourth one will be a common defence for highway authorities at the
moment, as they struggle to repair the roads after the cold snap.

    I hope this helps!

    Best wishes,

so i'm probably just going to leave it.

  • The Pot still there, remember took two years to close the hole at the end of Gower street, junction with New oxford.
    You figure it out

What you gonna do about your wheel?????

  • You didn't mention this at North's did you? I've had a response asking for clarification from the information people. Hopefully it will show something useful and I can make a claim.

  • As of today that has now been filled in.

  • Which one? I didn't go down Gower Street today.

  • That is some mighty hole! I think my wrists would have collapsed as well as my front wheel if I had hit that at full speed!

  • for anyone living in hampstead, there is quite a hole southbound on haverstock hell between the junctions of parkhill road and prince of wales road, just when you get going fast. will fillthathole it

  • A little warning.

If anybody out there is about to cycle at night from Hackney to Leyton down Homerton Rd (Hackney Marshes) - all the drain covers are missing on the marshes side (left) from Conservancy R (Kingsmead Estate) right to the lights.
The near proximity of a caravan side on the junction with Eastway may be clue.

I've reported it to Hackney Council, but not sure if they replaced the covers already.

  • I was cycling back from work today going up haverstock hill and hit a pothole. Had enough time to jump the front wheel but the back went in and gave me a puncture. Got home and noticed the rim is cracked in one place and bent.
Has anyone had any success with getting compensation?

  • Read the whole topic.

then follow exactly what everyone said.

  • I didn't ask what to do, i said Has anyone had any success, you cretin

  • Ed, you cretin!

  • Who cares about the success. Make lots and lots of noise then they might actually do something about them.

  • Cmon people... Fucking potholes??? Harden the fuck up. It's bloody London, not Kabul.

Imagine the poor bastard that has to read all these whingey emails about shitty roads. Poor bastard probably catches the tube.

  • Sorry... I'm currently sitting on a train looking for items from which to fashion a makeshift noose.
