  • Imelda Staunton +1

  • Kathy Burke should do more fillums

  • I gotta thing for Kirsten Dunst still.....

I used to work in hoxton sq. 2y ago as a bar manager, and i had Kirsten Dunst coming one night, asked me for water. No joke. I think she was dating back then Johnny Borrell.
    [/pointless info, i know]

  • Is anyone else super excited about Where The Wild Things Are?

We need a best films of the year thread.

  • these guys are up there for skills, imo
    Imelda Staunton,
    Emma Thompson,
    Cate Blanchett,
    Hilary Swank

Do you believe that Emma Thompson would have achieved anything without being her father's daughter? Eric Thompson was such an industry giant that it would have been hard to refuse her a job.

  • I freaking love John Leguizamo.

I know we're not talking about male actors, but I think he's chronically undervalued in Hollywood.

For some reason I really am.

    Recently watched;

    Away we go.
    The Hangover.
    Little shop of horrors.

  • I've just watched Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Loved it, well I love Woody Allen, and maybe cause I've lived in Barcelona before the film was just everything (and much more) I could have expected. Amazing photography, narrative and characters. Cruz once again is top performance.

what about trying to get Balki out of school for the day to go and see 'where the wild things are'?
@nuknow basicall the same film Woody Allen has been making for ever, but definitely agree its enjoyable, Cruz does melodrama like no-one else.
@cliveo perhaps not, perhaps not. she didn’t just wake up and be able to act though, so there has to be a combination of factors in her success.
'away we go'- really enjoyable watch too, great characters and situations, liked that.

  • You simply cannot ignore, for an example of simply excellent acting craft, the joyful interaction between Susan Anton and Catherine Bach in Hal Needham's superb directoral vehicle released in 1984.

Sublime interplay between the two ladies. A joy to watch. Many young actors today should take note!

  • Kathy Burke should do more fillums

    +1

Nil By Mouth is possibly my most favouritist film ever.......or is it Kevin and Perry Go Large...one of 'em.

agreed. he used to do some writing too, barely seen him since benny blanco from the bronx.

cant believe all the love for the holy mountain, thought i was the only one. Jodowsky was down to do Dune at one point, would of been mental.

on the low brow side a huge +1 for hotel for dogs

You have got a stronger stomach than me then...............
it was unlike any other film I have seen, in a good way, packed a powerful emotional punch, but not sure that I would want to sit through it that many times.
Interesting that Gary Oldman said he worked on a few knowingly shite Hollywoods to be able to make Nil by Mouth.

got 'sunshine cleaning' at my local this week.

Just a bigger stomach probably more like it, I'm sure there's a gut to grit ratio equation somewhere, but...

It's gruesome in places, heart warming in others. For me it's a top British line up (ok Besson, but at that stage in his career everything he touched turned to gold, as oppose to poo more recently) and it doesnt dissapoint in any way.
The cast were ALL on form, Winston, Burke, Creed-mills, John Morrison (young talent who's been in some shit hot stuff) Clapton's soundtrack, etc, etc all overseen by Gary Oldham...I mean, Fuck Me...Killer in every way!! Strong stuff, but totally passionate performances, writing, and directing. A standout piece of British film making.

    "You Shit Cunt, Fucking Slag..."

    "Naked" is up there aswell...

  • nil by mouth is good, but all brit films seems to be either kitchen sink dramas, toff comedys or lame gangster flicks. i grew up in the wonderful borough of lewisham so maybe it's too close for comfort. what role did besson play in the project, was he cinematographer?

  • dead man's shoes? room for romeo?? not really classed as kitchen sink.

  • room for romeo?

    Amazing film. So good Ahhhhhhh!

  • what role did besson play in the project, was he cinematographer?

Co-Producer I think, officially. But I imagine he just got involved, it was probably a fairly organic project.....or i'm just being romantic....
It was based on Oldham's childhood years, and shot around Kidbrooke, no? Being closer to it can only make it more powerful I would of thought. I can see how it's gritty realism might deter people from a similiar background, but oldham deals with his demons in great fashion....or im just being ro-man...

+2 for Romeo Brass, etc and (mentioned it in a previous post) has anybody got a clue where i can watch "Dog Altogether"???

"Nuts in May" on a lighter note, anyone got a copy I could transfer?? Horrendous that this hasn't being released on DVD yet!!

Quite liked it (surprisingly, as I'm not normally a huge Woody fan) but what the fuck was with the constant narration?

On balmy summer nights, the girls would sometimes go to hear Spanish guitar music, which never failed to move Vicky in some magical way

Show, don't tell, and all that...

Oh, and whenever anyone said "Gaudi", I felt a bit sick.

  • "Nuts in May" on a lighter note, anyone got a copy I could transfer?? Horrendous that this hasn't being released on DVD yet!!

I have a copy of that, it's an AVI file.... if interested go throw PM.

I quite enjoy narration, he has done it before anyway.

  • Watched Falling Down last night.

    Epic.

  • This is one of the darkest films I've seen - 13 Tzameti (France)
Fuck me man, I recommend it and certainly not!!

  • Tzametiis an awsome film, I cant recomend it enought
