  • 'men who stare at goats' last night--very poor indeed, like a second rate stoner movie. heard the book was rushed out to accompany film release, so guess I got sucked in by the marketing on this one.

  • Watched 'Moon' again last night, fucking hell that film is so good.

However, in the scene when he gets his hair cut, I literally couldn't stop laughing. All I saw was this...

    It cuts, as it sucks!

  • Harry Brown is very good. Tight, gritty, menacing and, within the realms of storytelling, plausible. Definitely worth the price of admission.

Hoping to get the extended Watchmen for Christmas. The cinema version was good but noticeably marred by the lack of the Tales of the Black Frieghter.

  • Office Space is on tonight @ 9pm Film4

  • movies that I'm currently downloading:

    the king is alive
    triangle
    harry brown
    watchmen (director cut)
    glory to the filmmaker
    tokyo gore police
    the general martin cahill

  • Just watched Gonzo, the documentary on Hunter S Thompson - really impressive...

Missed it but utterly superb. One of my Desert Island DVDs

i could set the building on fire.

  • is Cruz the best living female actress? sometimes I find her electrifying, others have said she is overly melodramatic, in her partnerships with Almodovar theres not many others that could beat her imo.
for pure movie Goddess of the moment Scarlett J just tops them all.

Cruz is good but Natalie Portman is better. More believeable. Scarlett J is just all cans and bleach.

  • Cant wait to see that!

i've been laid back with a cold and the local station put on all 3 LOTR films back to back, still respect the man for the way he did that. does anyone reconise the english actor that plays the Orc in the third of the trilogy. he finds frodo after he is bound by the spider, small lad with mousey face, been in a few big brit flicks but i can't remember his name!

@Bodie&D - it was, but he hasn't kept the bowie part ;)

Tough choice - Zowie Bowie or Duncan Jones?! Hmm, what would one choose?

  • for that warm, fuzzy, feelgood feeling, anything by Michael Haneke. "Cache" and the original "Funny Games" are very good.

  • just saw harry brown, and as murtle said is quite good.

  • "Cache" and the original "Funny Games" are very good.

    agree

  • Are you fellows serious? Best actress? Penelope Cruz, and Natalie Portman discussed, but not real actresses like Brenda Blethyn?

So a good actress must be youngish and beautiful, ....not necessarily good at the art of acting?

    Children. Sheeesh.

  • Totally forgot this magnificently excellent film......

    Let The Right One In.

The best film I've seen in years. Outstanding at every level. Tender, savage, mournful and heartwarming.

  • yeah thirty-eight year old kid here, glad to be so.
don’t worry Im into knowing the difference between a Mike Leigh and a Michael Mann.....

  • Moon was quite poor IMO, very derivative and unoriginal and I was left completely unmoved by it. It made me wanna watch the films it was desperately trying to stylise - Silent Running etc. - whilst I was watching it, which is never good.....

Right, right... what about Kristin Rudrüd and Tilda Swinton(also very sexy)

  • I gotta thing for Kirsten Dunst still.....

  • only because of the spiderman clip :)

  • yeah, true.

You have a point, but to be fair, both Cruz and Portman have demonstrated an ability of acting above the average. I think it would be harsh to label them as false actresses.

So how would you consider Audrey Tatou, an actress not only youngish and beautiful but also arguably a better at acting then Blethyn? Likewise with Hillary Swank, Charlize Theron or Juliette Binoche.

  • dont even start about Audrey.................
seen every film apart from 'Priceless' she has done, 'Da Vinci' was lame,
but that Amelie look, does it for me every time. she isnt a great acctress though.
the others are superior but I think that we are dealing with the type of women that do make it on to Chanel ads etc- its timeless- we look- we admire--.
but yes there are greater actresses.

I wouldn't exactly slate her on the performance from Da Vinci, it was never going to be a great film anyway. However, I do think you're maligning quite badly for her performances in Dirty Pretty Things, A very Long Engagement and The Beating of the Butterfly's Wings.

  • not sure about Cruz, but Portman is good. Don't rate Scarlett at all - lips and tits....very bland. Charlize Theron is good in the film that she is good in......Monster is it? Cannae merember....

  • these guys are up there for skills, imo
    Imelda Staunton,
    Emma Thompson,
    Cate Blanchett,
    Hilary Swank
