  • Its a work of art that - to do that frame justice - you are going to have to choose components carefully - what do you have in mind?

B123A's, Jaguar stem, Dura Ace head set, Sug 75 BB/Cranks, Nitto seat post, Ambrosio silver Balance rims on 36h Miche hubs. You might wince but I chose Miche hubs simply for practicality after speaking with a lot of members at beers - cheap yes but do look nice when labels and name removed, the quick change sprocket carrier is a neat idea and a lot of couriers use them. Also I need sealed hubs as this will be ridden daily and phils not worth the money for me.

  • Ah those pics look amazing, I remember having a drunken conversation with you about this bike at the Souths bake-off, have you worked out whats going on it yet?
As for the cost, fuck it, its your 50th man!

    Damn right!!

Yeah it's all on time - so I'm told but I'm not worried if it isn't. My b'days at the end of Jan - it's really whether Argos can do the paint on time that will effect delivery date.

  • boon = nice

  • @Finepics. Frame is lookin groovy. Had a long chat with Tom a few weeks ago - good man. He and I are working on a radical frame for next year - did he show you the Rangoon Oil?

  • **
[B]1970/71**... they used to come fitted with Campa NR x Weinmann(27") tubs.

I just managed to date the frame through the SN, happens that it is from 1974!!... built in November at the Worksop workshop.
More recent than I thought... CarltonCycles (UniversalCycleCentre) just quoted me £125 for colour&transfers + £40 collection. The former owner said the frame was re-sprayed 2 years ago by UCC, if true I need to get different quotes elsewhere, the job is terrible... : (

  • Finished the Pinarello.. just need to get some track friendly tyres.

i promised myself i wouldn't ride it on the road.... but i can't resist when it's nice and sunny outside!

nice. I don't know if you've been on them before, but you're going to love those wheels. I've put them through a lot and they're still straight and tensioned.

Hi mate, I forgot - he did mention you'd visited his workshop and were considering something!! Not thought to bring it up since but will be calling him tomorrow so will ask - Rangoon Oil???

Dia Compe hubs and Carnival cranks

If that sort of thing floats your boat...:)

  • Just waiting for the Bob Jackson transfers now not to sure what colour to have the script in though.

  • You're a bit mental, aren't you.

    How so

  • You're a bit mental, aren't you.

    hahahaha!

  • How so

Just, ya know... a bit odd

Only messing about, KC. No offence intended.

  • @ KINGCUTTER

how did you manage to get your BJ so clean? Did you sandblast it? I got a Gazelle Champion Mondial AA frame but in really poor optical shape and..let me know!

  • Shot-blasting is the easiest way to make it clean, but the surface will be a bit rough.
It takes some elbow grease to get is smooth (in case you want that).
Alternative it stripping paint in a chemical way or by pyrolysis.
A specialized company in Tilburg (you can go there by bike ;-) ) does this for several NL bike companies.

Looking good. What rims are they KC?

  • Not sure bought them off a forum member i think they are velocity or something like that and he had them stripped the hubs are formula.

djee yet sandblasted gets everything off but you need to prep it after.

  • sandblasing is prep.

  • Here's a sneak preview of my custom build due in the new year. I'm a bit short so head tube lugs are joined in the middle. Lugs, crown and fork dropouts are brushed stainless steel and frame/forks will be gloss black.

Wow Mark! This is stunning, can't wait to see it finished... January is it you said?

    Nice birthday present!

  • It wasn't exactly my plan to use 28c (front at least), the idea of a spare wheelset though might influence my choice, dunno. These are obvs not the wheels I'll use, it's just to test!!
I've seen everything at SJS, too expensive and not what i'm after, I found rigida anyway (pair) for the price of 1 jalco at SJS.

Clearly not, how many (real) track bikes use 28c tires? (grass track maybe). There's still a bit under 1cm left of clearance with the 700c x 28c...

My carlton (track 531c 1987ish) has a fair clearence, these are 23s

and yes, the rust needs sorting, just need to work out best option.

Absolutely loving the webbed lugs.... I've been thinking about slitly more ossttentatios version of the same ide (extended lugs with larger gaps for the webbing to span).. what lugs are those?

  • I'd assume they are custom cut by Demon. They are fucking evil Mark, love it, can't wait to see it complete!

  • At last! I'm so excited.

Sorry for absolutely shite photo, in a bit of a rush.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys, much appreciated. The lugs are actually Richard Sachs cast lugs (he supplies most of the lug sets) and these ones are the 300 Series Arrowhead with socketed rear stays on the seat tube lug. Tom's modded the fork dropouts to match the fork crown extensions, the matching lug set dropouts were not stainless steel so these came from a different set hence the need to mod them. The crown is a road type and more hefty than a track crown but was chosen for it's match with the lugs. The frame will be Reynolds 853 with Columbus stays, the latter dictated by the socketed seat tube lug.

Here's a pic with the water cut logo for the down tube (amazing that water can cut steel so precisely) and fork bits.
