To the rider involved in an accident outside C4 this morning

WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU PLAYING AT?

It was the middle of the rush hour.
You were overtaking a queue of stationary, I repeat stationary, traffic.
You were heading for a gap of about 2'6" between a panel van and a road island.
That van was in front of 3 other large panel vans all of which hugely restricted your view of pedestrians crossing between them.
It was wet.
You were doing the best part of 20mph.
You ran straight into 2 young girls trying to cross the road!

Yes I know the girls should have looked before stepping out but they were heading for a road island literally one pace in front of them.
Yes they were partly to blame BUT your riding was much, much more the cause of your accident.

I hope the girl who had injured her leg had nothing more than a sprain and I hope her friend was uninjured.
I hope the only injury you sustained was dented pride.
I trust you have the girls details and will send them flowers.

To all - When filtering past traffic, especially stationary traffic, SLOW DOWN! Ride only as fast as it's safe to do so. That speed should be a speed at which you can safely stop should you need / be forced to do so.

similar thing on my way to work ,a guy jumped the lights at a crossing,nearly hit a kid who looked about 10, cyclist was flying along would have been bad if he had hit him.

Everyone's going to forget to look once in a while. I reckon me plus bike plus locks plus rucksack comes in at about 300lbs. Hitting a ped at 20mph is going to flatten them. If they hit the tarmac awkwardly, it could be really messy. So I'm happy to watch out for the muppets rather than kill someone.

It's like RLJ at ped crossings - if there's nobody there, help yourself to an empty piece of road, I don't care. But if people are crossing don't RLJ then because it's dangerous. And sooner or later, someone will get hurt. Peds are starting to take aim at cyclists who do it. I don't blame them.

Yeah, this is a fundamental rule of the road.. If you're going at a speed that you are unable to stop in time for, should a hazard appear in your path, you are going too fast.
