OK, so Peugeot conversion (and my first fixed gear bike) is finished. Don't you just love the Gorgeous(TM) colour*...? ;-)
Am sure it will end up in Anti-porn, but hey I like it.- Side note: I see that Gorgeous Baby Blue did not reach its reserve on eBay...

Yes, that was the one I was referring to in my comments! IIRC, bids for that reached £176 on eBay - far short of the £600 originally asked!
And mine was painted (and early photos posted in this thread) before Gorgeous Baby Blue (TM) had been posted on LFGSS (so he can't claim influence rights) :-)

do yo recieve a cash incentive from Fizik everytime you recomend it on the site?
Haha, if I recommend bartape, I'll recommend Fizik as it's my favourite.

This took me a few months. Finally completed.
My eyes are darting around trying to find something I don't like... this looks amazing. With bar tape (maybe ending halfway down the drops) this would be perfect.

Just found this is in the street*
Some kind of 1970s touring bike I guess. No braise-ons for the cabling but lots for front and back racks, dynamo. Frame is nearly spotless, few scrathces on the decals but sound apart from that. Mud guards look in really good condition. Old leather saddle - see branding detail. Not heard of the tubing, guess its own brand. Been looking for a bigger frame to try out having risers instead of bullbars so this will do. Will keep you updated.

*The French town I'm staying in is divided into 4 sections and each section has a big rubbish disposal day once a month. So every week you can go out round town looking through the big crap that people throw away. This week was the turn of one of the more affluent areas and I found this bike (3rd bike this year :)). Guessing it was being thrown away due to lack of handleage.

Motobecane. Nice! :)

• #16511
That Motobecane is awesome - I've always loved the idea of an old fixed or SS tourer/commuter... something like an old Dawes Galaxy.
If you do it right that will be a great build.
ps make sure you keep the canti's

weaslepopper, you totally should build that into a town/singlespeed bicycle, leaving the mudguard, rack etc. on.
it's always nice to have a bike for going around town in proper comfort.
almost forget to mentioned, the 3 speed fixed hubs would go very well with that if you want to build it up as a fixed wheel bike.

I'm going to build it just using the components off my other bike for now to see how it rides. Will definitely keep the racks, especially the front one. There's a lot of clearance on the forks so could get some nice fat comfy tyres if it goes well.
3 Speed fixed hub sounds good for this build but need to do things on the cheap for now. Was hoping to find something a bit crapper in the street to be honest for a commuter bike whereas this kind of needs some particular love and attention...
just tried to get the cranks off but the thread on the cranks is about 5mm wider than on my crank tool so cant push them off. Might have to cut through the vintage stonglight cranks eek

Does anyone know the french for: Excuse me grumpy French man do you have a pre '74 crank tool thingy and can take the crank off my bike even though everytime I come in you're in a mood and I think you hate me?

Hahaha! 'Retirez le Pedalier' is a rough translation of 'remove the cranks' and maybe buy him a nice bottle of vin rouge for his trouble! :)

Yep, they are. Have not ridden them enough yet to really put them through their paces or find fault, but I am quite happy with them so far. They are approx the same weight as Miche Primato crankset (inc. chainring) according to specs available on the web.
Seem pretty well made, but biggest advantage for me is that they were a hell of a lot cheaper than anything else I could find (US $49.50 + shipping and duty). Given that, I am certainly not complaining.
My chainline is ~40mm, so I have had to put the chainring on the inside of the spider, with a 103mm JIS BB.
