Alpkit do waterproof jeans and Edwin did some goretex lined jeans ages ago.
checked the alpkit slim jims
they look very decent and great price too. I wonder if they are comfy or not? -
• #278
Yeah, they do look good. I'm still swaying towards a pair of
swrve jeans though. Does anyone know what they are like in wet conditions? i.e. do they dry out quickly? Are the waxxed/coated special editions any more rain resistant, or is the coating just a style thing? -

I decided to buy myself a pair of the Alpkit Jeanius slim fit. Seems a good deal at £50. I'll post my thoughts here once I've got them and tried them out a bit on the bike over the next couple of weeks.

I have two pairs of them , but to be honest dont ride in them much although I wear them constantly, prefer their 3/4's for riding.

Do you/hillbilly have the normal jeans or the special edition coated ones?

and £50
Thanks, looks interesting but they don't look very 'slim' more 'straight' and that color is not to my taste - I prefer dark blue denim, not washed out.

What is selvedge?
It's the old way of making jeans - woven in batches which are the correct width for a single pair of jeans, meaning that the jeans are made to size. The edge of the material is therefore the edge of the jeans.
Nowadays jeans are made on enormous industrial looms, the denim is woven meters across, and the denim is just cut down to make the jeans. The edges on those jeans are just the middle part of some denim.
Not explaining this very well, but suffice it to say that generally speaking selvedge jeans are made with more care and more respect for the material than your average pair of jeans. WHen you see a pair of Levis for £140, it's because they're selvedge and will last longer. When you see a pair of Levis for £40, it's because they're not and they won't.

selvedge is cheap as chips in uniqlo.
with online discount codes - **UNI15OFF **for 15% off a 45 spend you can pick some up for around £40..
lots of different cuts dependent on your style.. the hipster in me prefers the T000 for riding in. -

Primark 391's.
Seriously, how can anyone sell jeans for £3.91. That's fucking ridiculous. They must have been made by female battery semislave children in a foreign 'third world' country, out of genetically modified cotton that was sprayed with the most deadly, environmentally damaging pesticides and treated with carcinogenic compounds, and then delivered to each store by illegal immigrant lorry drivers.
But they're cheap and if you wreck them who cares.
edit: I didn't read page 1.

i've been cycling in this one pair of jeans from h&m for freakin aaaaaaages with no hint of wear around the manhood. they were about 20 quid and were already pretty old when i started wearing them on the bike. these things are indestructable - they're made of cockroaches or something.

waterproof jeans would be disastrous... waterproofing = not breathable = smelly from the inside
wrong wrong wrong wrong.
there's plenty of breathable waterproof fabrics out there (and no i'm not talking about goretex before you get you knickers in a twist)
event or paramo for example -

+1
I have one pair I got in 2007, and they only have a little rip on the thigh, near to the knee, other than that they're amazzzinnng.

softshells fabric isn't lighter than goretex. i have softshells of various thicknesses from gore N2S (the thinnest) to a waterproof seamsealed softshell (useless on the bike unlesss it around freezing) and all are heavier than a cycling specific gore/e-vent jacket.
if anything our weather is hard to deal with because it can be wet and warm so fabrics have to be very breathable as well as water resistant/waterproof. -

I got myself both the Alpkit Jenius, and the Swrve coated special editions. I'm gonna try both on properly later when I get home, but first impressions this morning, I preferred the fit of the Swrve's. The coated special edition Swrves don't look as weird in the flesh as they do on the Swrve UK site, not as shiny in reality. I'll post some pics of both later.

Ha....! bet you got soaked today mate.... bad messenger weather today..... Denim definitely Not FTW today!
Had a pair of those to review. Nice idea but not the most comfortable to wear against the skin. They also did a windstopper pair as well.
