Ritter Royal Basses, made in Germany...
The most opulent, decadent musical instruments in the world... Dooks will hate them but personally I think they're kind of cool in a ridiculously OTT fashion, if you were in Prince's band you'd play one of these basses...
Anything on these basses that looks like it might possibly be real gold/ platinum/ ivory/ precious stones etc. is real....
Top class high-end porn...

no, they are fucking crap.

;)
Certainly not to everyone's tastes...
I'd like one of the more simple designed ones though... one of these...
Nothing too fancy on the options, just plain black or white with a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard (very un-p.c) and just a small inlay at the twelfth fret (possibly his sword inlay) I reckon that would be quite nice... 4-string...

Well I think you'd be surprised by my taste in guitars really, I have a seriously eclectic taste, love a bit of everything I do...
I will stand by my love of PRS guitars as in so far as I'm concerned they are the best guitars available, best build quality, playability, sound and look (although looks are subjective).
I do love all the vintage stuff but I think if you want something to play as a players guitar rather than to enjoy playing becuase it's a '58 Les Paul then PRS is the only thing for it...
I think my favourite acoustic would vouch for eclectic taste but I would agree I don't have normal taste, I'm not a massive fan of Gibson, Fender, Martin etc... I do love them but I prefer other things...

Heh heh heh, tell you what I've a crush on at the moment...
They used to make one which was just natural wood, think it was an Ash body, that's the one I fancied most, or Steve DiGiorgio's Forest Green one... nom nom nom ;]

oh christ nahg, what *have *you been posting? MY EYES!
anyone got anything to add that isn't porn/antiporn. good websites resources etc?
i like this place for gear reviews and general tech info. don't post much these days though.
i know i had a guitar tab rant on here earlier in the year but this site is great:
http://www.indieguitartabs.com/
i'm seldom happier than when sat on the floor, two beers down, with an acoustic guitar hollering out a neutral milk hotel tune. love singing shins, neko case and decemberists stuff from here too. tons of fun.

I've always been in awe of "proper" classical guitar. I finger pick acoustic a lot but in a sort of Merle Travis country bluegrass sort of way. I do a bit of James Burton style picking with a pick and two fingers, but i've never mastered the sort of eight fingered dexterity that decent classical guitarists seen to have. I love the way their fingers seem to move totaly independantly of each other and easily to whatever note is required irregardless of the ingrained box shapes and patterns that lesser musicians (like me) use to navigate the neck.
What's a good simple. classical piece to get started on if I want to work on my ahem fingering? I can sort of bluff my way though a few bits (Blue Danube etc).
I really like the version of "A Well Tempered Clavier" M.Ward does at the end of Post War... or maybe Transistor Radio. I'd love to be able to play that.

If you want fuzz I can heartily recommend the Sola Sound Tone Benders, think Macaris still knock them out (they put them out originally way back when)... Used mine for years, I've been through loads of 'em... I had an original 70s one for the studio and a buncha others for gigs, all desperately need some TLC as none of them have worked for donkeys... Try: Supa ToneBender for trebly fuzz and the Jumbo ToneBender for a more bassy sound... Fuzz rules!
Ai.
Ta for the pickup and fuzz tips.
Fuzz does indeed rule. I have been lucky enough to obtain quite a few pedals built by David Main of Differential Audio Manifestationz. He creates vintage fuzz classics with modern / current components using NOS transistors as well as his own signature pedals which are truly excellent. If you spot one try it. I think Vintage & Rare in Denmark Street stock all of his range.
But for a very decent pedal for the price any DIY enthusiast should try BYOC (build your own clone) as they have all the classic pedals in kit form which you can build yourself. [/geek]
Want to get nerdy? One of my own creations....
Also, you London chaps. Who is it who owns all of Denmark Street now? It's one of the major shops but I can't remember who...
That's stunning jammy, awesome work mate.
I own quite a few guitars and even more pedals, but recently I have just been using modelling software (Amplitube) to create some truly horrendous music.

Having solved my reverb dilema i'm now back on a fuzz-quest too. i missed that tonebender fuzz on the bay and have been trawling for possible alternatives. I know they're cheap and cheerful junk but i hear from a trusted source that the dano mini pedal "french toast" fuzz is pretty great for sick, flat battery, square wave, "ripping velcro" style fuzz. Sounds right up my street. Although maybe a home clone build is worth considering.
I'm not always this gear-hungry btw. Just had about 2 years off playing live during which time i sold a lot of my kit and lost all gear lust. I've now suddenly found myself in two new bands with very different sounds and requirements so i'm stocking up!
Need a new live amp next as i sold my pro reverb and i don't want to fry my Champs. I'm thinking SF Deluxe Reverb if i can find one...

I've got a SF Twin Reverb sitting around not doing anything... Needs a little bit of work (on/off switch needs some attention and there are a few busted dials) but sounds killer... It's the 135w JBL job with master volume, very early 80s... Let me know if you're interested...

cheers dude, appreciate the offer but i already haz a twin in the rehearsal room. thank you though.
i'm after something lower power that travels from home to gig and back, preferably something you can carry short distances in one hand (without popping a disc). thinking maybe:
princeton:
deluxe:
or maybe i'll go modern or reissue. i've always liked the sound and general spec of the blues junior:
i'm kind of intrigued by the vox reissues too. i've always always wanted an original AC30 but the chances of finding one in good nick that i can afford... or have the means to lug around are pretty slim.
i'm not generally a fan of these "vintage reissue*" sort of things but the lure of the diamond pattern grille, cloth, gold logo and chime and sparkle potential are strong...

DOOKS,
i recommend that you get 'pumping nylon' a fantastic technique book by Scott tenant, it helped me get my grade 8 but i know others who use it when teaching little kiddies, very good fundamental and advanced techniques with some cool pieces in there too...
also Leo Brouwer studies are cool too...
-

Pumping Nylon is a top book, I used to play classical for a year, proper whopper fingernails I had ;) Rather enjoyed it but I was hindered by my ability in contemporary music, made me too impatient to learn the basics properly before forging into playing proper pieces, still... did Grade VI after 8 months which I was quite happy with ;)
Have to say I really enjoyed the Leo Brouwer studies too, great for building dexterity!
A good resource for guitar nerdishness is...

Got a glass slide recently. I'm fucking useless with it. Useless!! Anybody here use(d) one? Any tips?
Anyway, there's now an excuse to post this:
YouTube - Rory Gallagher - Brute Force And Ignorance (1979)
Second that emotion re. ergonomics & ugliness....
I'm currently loving '80's Fernandes Revival Series Fenders (got a Strat & Tele)... pushed through a WEM Clubman / Boss ME50.... can get a lovely Hendrix hollowness at times....
Talking fuzz, the Boss modelling of the Proco Rat make me think that's a sound to stick with....
Anyone wanting to take a Tele copy (best ever) off my hands I'm going to flog it soon (I don't play- I just make noise, so it's wasted)....
Scratch....
