how are you supposed to buy from EAI? they seem focused on distribution only (i.e. no prices displayed, nor do they have a shopping basket).

I just used Geoffrey Butler Cycles based in Croydon and they offered a very good service. Bought a Campag Veloce Chainset for £30 which was an absolute bargain, arrived pretty quick too. not track or fixed specific but could have the odd bargain and some nice bits of clothing

what, no love for nippon shops?
Track Supermarket
Alex's CycleI purchased some things from both and have had no problems at all (good communicacion, fast shipping, etc.)
with regards to track supermarket..
did you receive any customs fees?
did you request to if the items can be marked down to avoid any fees? -
• #55
or does anyone have any experiences of purchasing items from rene at tracksupermarket?
-
• #56
here are my experiences with customs, but please note that I'm located in Spain.
regarding buying from Rene/Track Supermarket: before it was a "proper" shop (= from his blog), you had to place the order directly to him (personal e-mail), and since I was concerned about customs, he asked me if I wanted him to mark the items down, so I could get through customs without paying VAT et al.
I have purchased again from the "proper" shop, and now things are more straight. so if you don't contact him before shopping you won't the opportunity to ask them to be marked down. apart from that, now that the shop seems to be more "legal", maybe they're more worried about declaring lesser value for shipping items because it can cause problems for them (as other shops do). this is just an opinion, and it's better to ask him BTW — he's a nice guy.

cheers oval.
i asked as i purchased some bits from him and asked before hand if he would mark them down, he said he would, i purchased the items then requested again to mark down... i ended up getting burned by customs.
i also requested to change an item in the order 4 hrs after making the order but didnt get a reply for 4 days (after it was sent ) i ordered on friday and the items sent on tuesday.. way enough time to amend the order.
just left a bit of a bad taste as no doubt he has some nice bits but felt i got skanked somewhat.
anyway...
has anyone got any experience of www.shinybikes.com/ ?

Hmm, either Royal Mail or Parker's are playing silly buggers with me at the moment, I suspect it's Royal Mail but I've had an 'order despatched' email from Parker's today after having one four days ago...

Whoever made that website has great taste.

It was Royal Mail, we get no collection today because of the ongoing strikes but my stuff has been delivered in time for the weekend after all. Rah.

Both Parker and SJS are both good, but only one decided to help sponsor our forum.

GA2G i can see why people would prefer SJS i just find i havent had overly good service with them and with parker everything has been glowing, they send me emails when stuff is out of stock, they allowed me to put an order on hold so i could check my bank balance and avoid another letter from the bank, angie (who usually deals with orders) is incredibly polite and informative, just my 2 pence. .
@Fox glad to here you got it sorted?

has anyone got any experience of www.shinybikes.com/ ?
site looks pretty basic.I've had crap service from shinybikes twice in the last 6 months, refuse to use them now. Bought a groupset and a road bar, and both times the items were shown in stock, they took the money the same day, but the stuff took 2 weeks or longer to arrive, and only after numerous follow up emails from me. Maybe others have better luck...

I'll put another word in for Freemans Cycles here: the only place in the UK I have found that sells old school Raleigh bottom brackets, in all sizes.

I order EAI stuff from hubjub.co.uk. You just have to ask them. Will has been more than helpful. Highly recommended.

Shiny Bikes did me a very good deal on a 'Campag gruppo' (Campagnolo groupset).

Had some stuff delivered today from Geoffrey Butler Cycles (gbcycles.co.uk) in record time. Most helpful they were when I spoke to them. Thought I'd offer props and suggest they're added to the list.
there's also Starbike from Germany. good experience too.
